CTD arrests terrorists planning to attack JUI, ANP chiefs

PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Peshawar arrested two suicide bombers belonging to the ISIS-K from the Matani area on Friday.

The terrorists were planning to attack the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the Awami National Party (ANP) president Aimal Wali.

Speaking to the media, Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) Operations Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Najam Husnain Liaquat said that there was a report of the presence of a suicide bomber in Matani, on which the suicide bomber was arrested.

SSP CTD said that the arrested suicide bomber was identified as Adil Khan, while on the identification of the arrested terrorist, another accomplice Tahir was arrested.

Najam Al-Hussain also said that the terrorists had planned to target Maulana Fazal ur Rehman and Amil Wali Khan, the terrorists belonging to the Daesh Khorasan group.

The CTD officials said that the terrorists had also completed the reiki of the Mufti Mehmood Center as part of the plan.

PHC seeks response from ECP over PTI’s contempt plea

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) issued a notice to the Election Commission of Pakistan on the contempt petition of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and sought its response.

The hearing of PTI’s contempt petition against the ECP was held in the Peshawar High Court.

During the hearing, Qazi Anwar Advocate, and Shah Faisal Ilyas Advocate appeared in the court.

PTI’s lawyers said that the Peshawar High Court had ordered the ECP to publish the PTI certificate on the website, but neither the election symbol certificate was issued to the PTI nor the electoral regulatory body publish the certificate on the website.

The PHC issued a notice to the  ECP at the request of PTI and sought their response.

It should be noted that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had filed a contempt of court petition in the Peshawar High Court against the ECP on the issue of intra-party elections and for not giving the bat election symbol.

Medical and dental internship program concluded at ICCBS

KARACHI: The medical and dental internship program has been completed at the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi.

As many as 20 students (final year) and recent graduates of M.B.B.S. and B.D.S. have completed their training in various areas of biomedical sciences.

Prof. Dr. Farzana Shaheen, the Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, distributed the internship certificates among the participants, belonging to various medical universities of Pakistan, including Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi Medical and Dental College and others.

Speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony of the medical and dental internship program 2023, held at the ICCBS, University of Karachi, Prof. Farzana Shaheen congratulated Prof. Dr. Asmat Salim and her team for organizing such a useful and unique internship program. Prof. Dr. Zaheer-Ul-Haq and other faculty members were also present on the occasion.

The Director highlighted the significance of the research training program for medical and dental students and graduates and said that this short exposure to basic and clinical research in a world-class institution was expected to create research interest in the medical students.

This year, the training of 20 medical students and graduates in various disciplines of Molecular Medicine shows the strong commitment of the ICCBS, University of Karachi, to science, research, and academics.

Prof. Asmat Salim, in her speech, said that the Dr. Panjwani Center conducted this internship program for recent medical and dental graduates, and students every year in December.

The objective of the program is to provide them an opportunity to be involved in research activities at the molecular and cellular levels, she said.

13 parties delisted for not holding intra-party elections

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has delisted 13 political parties for not conducting intra-party elections.

The ECP accepted the intra-party elections of two political parties and rejected the intra-party elections of 13 political parties.

In its decision, the Election Commission delisted 13 parties saying that the behavior of the political parties was not serious.

The ECP accepted the intra-party details of Jamiat Ulema e Pakistan(JUP) and issued the election symbol to JUI.

The electoral regulatory body has also issued election symbols to Pakistan Muslim League Jinnah while All Pakistan Minority Alliance, All Pakistan Tehreek, Awami Party Pakistan, and Bahawalpur National Awami Party have been delisted.

The ECP also delisted Sab Ka Pakistan, Pakistan Aman Council Party, and Pakistan National Muslim League for not conducting intra-party elections.

Talking to media, minister said that Pakistan has initiated a platform to boost the health system strongly and it would provide a regular platform for nations to review progress, share insights, and discuss emerging health challenges on a global scale.

He said that this health summit forum will also boost the confidence of world for Pakistan’s health system, adding, Pakistan has a capable pharmacy workforce whom we can export and utilize for other countries in time of any Pandemic like situation.

Collaborative efforts of policy makers, experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from around the world will further improve the health systems of poor countries, he added.

He emphasized the need for continued collaboration, and the implementation of evidence-based strategies to safeguard global health.

He said the moot had served as a great opportunity of bringing together international and national experts to share expertise and knowledge for a safer world.

Dr Nadeem Jan said holding of the international conference had proved that the country could play a key role in the health sector and it also sustained the dignity of Pakistan globally.

President approves resignation of Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi  approved the resignation of the Supreme Court Judge Justice Ijazul Ahsan.

The president approved the resignation on the advice of the prime minister in the exercise of the power under Article 179 of the Constitution.

Earlier, Second senior most judge of Supreme Court Justice Ijazul Ahsan has resigned from his post and sent his resignation to the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi.

 

Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan was to become the Chief Justice of Pakistan after Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa. Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan was the most senior judge after Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, who would retire on March 10, 2024.
