LAHORE: The Punjab Government has decided to impose a smart lockdown in 10 districts of the province including Lahore on November 18(Saturday) due to smog.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a notification for implementation of smart Lockdown.

According to the notification, there will be a lockdown on Saturday in 10 districts including Lahore, Nankana Sahab, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad and Mandi Bahauddin.

Movement will be restricted in all these districts on Saturday, November 18.

According to the notification, all public and private schools, colleges, and universities will be closed, and online classes will be allowed.

The notification states that markets, shops, gyms, cinemas, and offices can be opened after 3 pm.

Earlier, the Punjab Health Department issued a notification for the closure of private and public schools, colleges, and universities on Saturday, November 18.

Markets, gyms, cinemas, and offices will remain open at 3 pm.

ISLAMABAD: Former foreign minister and former Speaker National Assembly Gohar Ayub Khan passed away at the age of 86.

Family sources have confirmed Gohar Ayub’s death, his Namaz-e-Janaza will be offered on Saturday (tomorrow) at 3:00pm in Village Rehana, Haripur District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It should be noted that Gohar Ayub was the son of former Field Marshal President Ayub Khan and father of Secretary General Pakistan Tehreak Insaf (PTI) Omar Ayub.

Gohar Ayub Khan was born on January 15, 1937 in Rehana village of Haripur district. He was elected Speaker of the National Assembly on November 4, 1990 and held the position till October 17, 1993.

Gohar Ayub Khan has also served as the Foreign Minister of Pakistan from 1997 to 1998 during the government of Nawaz Sharif.

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faz Isa constituted a committee to bring innovation in the judicial system of Pakistan.

The committee, headed be headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the Supreme Court, would comprise Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar of the SC, besides judges of high courts and the Federal Shariat Court.

The National Judicial Automation Committee aims to automate and integrate the judiciary and also introduce artificial intelligence (AI) in the legal processes and research. It will prepare a national plan based on technology and AI to improve the efficiency of service delivery of the judiciary.

“Justice Shah believes that the justice sector in Pakistan should take advantage of the new developments in technology. The world has moved from the age of the Industrial Revolution to the Era of Technological Transformation, and the justice sector in Pakistan needs to invest in state-of-the-art digital infrastructure, modernized training programmes, and robust measures for better administration of justice”.

“Justice Mazhar thinks that the digitization of the justice sector is only the beginning of the transformative change they envision for the legal system. As they move forward, they remain committed to continually enhancing their digital capabilities, further improving access to justice, and ensuring a transparent and efficient legal process for all,” it added.

Justice Shah was a Judge and later Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court. During his tenure, he established a Resource Center and launched a distinctive automation project that resulted in the successful deployment of Case Flow Management System. Similarly, Justice Mazhar took several initiatives to equip the High Court of Sindh with IT technology.

The NJAC is a sub-committee of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) which is an apex body responsible for improving the performance of the administration of justice, harmonizing the judicial processes and standards, and ensuring a skilled and efficient judiciary.

LAHORE: The Punjab government has banned five cough syrups manufactured by a Lahore-based pharmaceutical company after harmful ingredients were found in them.

Caretaker Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare  Dr. Jamal Nasir has said in his statement that the Punjab government has banned five cough syrups. Dr Jamal Nasir revealed that these cough syrups manufactured in Lahore were also supplied abroad.

He said that the World Health Organization(WHO) investigation on the complaint of Maldivian in the syrups confirmed the high amount of alcohol. On the recommendation of the Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP), the Punjab government has stopped the sale of all five syrups.

Dr Jamal Nasir said that the stock of these syrups is being taken immediately from all the medical stores in Punjab while the syrup manufacturing factory is being sealed.

It should be noted that before this many children have died due to the same concentration present in Indian cough syrup.

LAHORE: Deputy Commissioner Lahore ordered the detention of fashion designer and social activist Khadija Shah for a period of another 30 days under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore issued the notification of Khadija Shah’s detention, in which it is said that the order to detain Khadija Shah was issued on the recommendation of the Superintendent of Police(SP) Cantt and District Intelligence Branch.

According to the notification, Khadija Shah was involved in violent activities on May 9 and she may disturb the law and order situation again.

It should be noted that Khadija Shah was arrested in the case of arson and vandalism in Jinnah House Lahore.

Earlier on November 15, the Anti-Terrorism Court of Lahore approved the post-arrest bail application against Khadija Shah in the fourth and last case related to May 9.

It should be remembered that Khadija Shah surrendered herself to the Lahore Police on May 23 on the charges of the May 9 riots.

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi telephoned the family members of the soldiers of the Pakistan armed forces who were martyred in different terrorist incidents.

The president held telephonic interactions with the families of the soldiers martyred in the attacks that took place on November 6, and October 18 and 29 respectively in different parts of the country.

The president paid tribute on behalf of the whole nation to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country.

“The whole nation owes to the families of the martyrs for sacrificing their dear ones for the homeland,” he remarked.

President Alvi phoned the family of Lt Col Muhammad Hassan Haider, who was martyred in an attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on November 6.

He interacted with the families of Naik Khushdil Khan, Lance Naik Abdul Qadeer Khan and Rafeeq Khan.

He also telephoned the family members of Naib Subedar Asif Imran and Sepoy Irfan Ali, who embraced martyrdom in Awaran district of Balochistan on October 29.

He also spoke to the family members of Sepoy Farman Ali, who sacrificed his live in an attack on October 18 in South Waziristan.
