Police raid Buenos Aires hotel where Liam Payne died by falling from his balcony

Liam Payne
  • Liam Payne died in the CasaSur Palermo Hotel on October 16.
  • He fell from his third-floor room.
  • Buenos Aires police recently raided the same hotel.

Buenos Aires police recently raided the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, where former One Direction member Liam Payne died after falling from his balcony. The 31-year-old singer fell from his third-floor room on October 16, and an autopsy indicated he may have fallen in a “semi-conscious or unconscious” state, suffering multiple injuries including a cranial fracture.

According to the Argentinian newspaper LA NACION, police from the Special Investigations Division conducted the raid to collect “elements of interest for the investigation.” This included important “documents and videos” from the hotel’s lobby and courtyard, as well as computers and phones.

An insider told Us Weekly that the focus of the raid was to identify hotel staff on duty during Payne’s stay, particularly on October 16. Authorities suspect that hotel employees may have supplied drugs to him, highlighting a Dove soapbox believed to have been used for smuggling. The source mentioned that “the hotel must provide” additional security camera footage for the investigation.

A toxicology report confirmed that Payne had “multiple substances in his system,” including crack cocaine, benzodiazepines, and pink cocaine, a recreational drug mix. Police were seen examining documents and searching the hotel as part of the investigation.

Payne had been at the hotel with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. After she left, his behavior reportedly became erratic, leading the hotel manager to call 911, stating he was “high on drugs and alcohol.” Moments later, Payne was found in the courtyard after his fall.

Fire destroys half of Argentina ‘s power grid

Argentina
  • Several important cities and significant expanses of the countryside are totally or partially affected.
  • Temperatures in several sections of South America are constantly above 35 degrees Celsius.
  • The energy ministry has stated that it is optimistic that power will be restored soon.

More than half of Argentina is without power after a fire damaged the national power grid.

The metropolis of Buenos Aires, several important cities, and significant expanses of the countryside are totally or partly affected.

According to reports, the fire erupted in open fields, disrupting critical power cables in the coastal zone and knocking down a nuclear power facility.

Argentina is now experiencing a heatwave and drought.

Temperatures in several sections of South America are constantly above 35 degrees Celsius, despite the fact that the country is still in summer.

The extreme heat, combined with the power loss, has ground several areas to a halt, with courses suspended and businesses closed. Many others are also without air conditioning or refrigeration.

The hardest hit is major cities, with an estimated 150,000 people currently without electricity in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area.

The energy ministry has stated that it is optimistic that power will be restored soon.

Electricity outages are widespread throughout the country. In 2019 a catastrophic power failure put tens of millions of people in the dark in Argentina as well as bordering Uruguay.

In Buenos Aires, hundreds of thousands of houses will be darkened by 2020.

Brazil
  • Israel and Argentina will announce this week that they will begin preliminary work on a common currency.
  • The plan will be discussed at a summit in Buenos Aires this week.

Brazil and Argentina will announce this week that they are starting preparatory work on a common currency, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

The plan will be discussed at a summit in Buenos Aires this week. It will center on how a new currency, which Brazil proposes calling the “sur” (south), could boost regional trade and reduce reliance on the US dollar, according to officials quoted by the Financial Times.

“There will be… a decision to begin studying the parameters required for a common currency. It includes everything from fiscal issues to the size of the economy and the role of central banks,” Argentina‘s Economy Minister Sergio Massa told the Financial Times.

Politicians from both countries discussed the idea in 2019 but were met with opposition from Brazil’s central bank.

The initiative, which began as a bilateral project, would later be expanded to invite other Latin American nations.

According to the report, which added that an official announcement was expected during Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s visit to Argentina, which begins on Sunday night.
