Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy will co-chair hearing on Tuesday

Stephanie Murphy
  • Stephanie Murphy is co-chairing a hearing on the events of January 6, 2021.
  • Murphy confessed that they had actually saved her life.
  • She recalled how when rioters broke into the Capitol and the House chambers.

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy of Florida will probably examine the evidence of the violence not just as an investigator but also personally when she co-leads the public hearing on Tuesday about the role of paramilitary groups in attacking the nation’s Capitol.

In a conversation with law enforcement officials who had just testified in court about their confrontation with rioters on January 6, 2021, Murphy confessed that they had actually saved her life.

Murphy stated, “Most people don’t know this, and I don’t think even you know this, but your actions had a profound impact on me.”

She recalled how when rioters broke into the Capitol and the House chambers, she and U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice fled for cover to an office in the basement.

“We had taken refuge in that office because we thought for sure being in that basement at the heart of the Capitol was the safest place we could be. And, it turned out, we ended up at the center of the storm,” she added.

The area where Capitol Police and Metro Police officers were containing rioters, according to Murphy, was roughly 40 paces from her and Rice.

“From that office, in close proximity to where you all held the line, I listened to you struggle, I listened to you yelling out to one another. I listened to you care for one another, directing people back to the makeshift eyewash station that was at the end of our hall. And then I listened to people coughing, having difficulty breathing. But I watched you and heard you all get back into the fight,” she further concluded.

While speaking to the DC Metro Officer Daniel Hodges Murphy said, “You felt like you were the last line of defense. Well, I’m telling you, that you were our last line of defense.”

“During the exact period of time, Officer Hodges … where you were sacrificing your body to hold that door, it gave Congresswoman Rice and I and the Capitol Police officers who had been sent to extract us the freedom of movement on that hallway to escape down the other end,” Murphy recounted. “I shudder to think what would have happened if you had not held that line.”

You can watch her remarks on July 27, 2021, as well as the evidence of Hodges and three other police officers who engaged in riot suppression that day, here on the committee’s YouTube account.

Andy Flower confirmed as head coach of Adani’s UAE team

Andy Flower confirmed as head coach
  • The Adani Group has purchased a franchise in the UAE T20 competition.
  • The six-team competition will be played from January 6 to February 12, 2015.
  • It is part of Adani Sportsline’s efforts to interact with cricket fans worldwide.

The Adani Group has branded its club as the Gulf Giants after purchasing a franchise in the UAE T20 competition (ILT20). Andy Flower, a former England player and current coach of the Lucknow Super Giants, has also been officially announced as the group’s new coach.

The Gulf Giants team will be a part of the Adani Sportsline, the Adani Group’s sports division. The organization released the team’s logo on Tuesday (July 12) and stated, “The Gujarat Giants brand of Adani Sportsline is expanded upon by the “Gulf Giants.”

Under this brand, Adani Sportsline interacts with fans via well-known Indian leagues like the Pro Kabaddi League, the Big Bout Boxing League, and the Ultimate Kho Kho League.

At the UAE ILT20, it also intends to involve and interact with cricket fans all around the world through the brand Gulf Giants.”

Regarding Flower’s signing, the company claimed: “Andy has three decades of cricketing expertise and is perhaps Zimbabwe’s all-time best cricketer.”

“In addition to franchise clubs like the Punjab Kings (IPL), Maratha Arabians (Abu Dhabi T10), Multan Sultans (PSL), St. Lucia Kings (CPL), and Delhi Bulls (Abu Dhabi T10), Flower has previously coached the national teams of England and Afghanistan.”

Flower expressed his excitement about joining the project. “Being a part of the Adani Group, and in particular Adani Sportsline makes me incredibly proud. The company’s power, stature, and reach are generally known to the public, so it’s amazing to witness their dedication to sports.”

“Being a part of any major franchise event is exciting, and the ILT20 has enormous ambitions to do just that. The best we can do as leaders is to serve the players, and I value this notion greatly,” added the former captain of Zimbabwe.

Tom Moody and R Sridhar have agreed to serve as their cricket/coach directors for the Glazer family and Capri Global, two other league participants.

The Kolkata Knight Riders, the Mumbai Indians, and GMR are the other three teams in the six-team competition. From January 6 through February 12, the league will be in play.

UK new prime minister is expected to be announced on September 5th

UK prime minister
  • In order to gain the support of their fellow candidates, nearly all of the candidates have made bold tax cut promises.
  • The new leader will also need to stem the tide of dwindling Conservative support.
  • The British economy is struggling with heavy debt, rocketing inflation, and slow growth.

LONDON: The first votes in the crowded, unpredictable, and acrimonious race to succeed Boris Johnson will be cast this week, with the announcement of Britain’s new prime minister expected on September 5.

To date, 11 candidates have entered the race to succeed Johnson as prime minister and leader of the dominant Conservative Party. Johnson resigned following a spectacular uprising by his own legislators and ministers following a number of scandals.

To even get to the first round of voting on Wednesday, according to the 1922 committee of Conservative MPs, contenders must receive at least 20 nominations from the party’s 358 legislators.

Those who obtained fewer than 30 votes will be eliminated.

Graham Brady stated, “I am very keen we get this concluded as smoothly, cleanly, and rapidly as possible.”

Before the Conservative Party’s members, who number fewer than 200,000, cast their postal ballots during the summer, the field will be narrowed down by MPs to a final two contenders.

Penny Mordaunt, the former defence minister, was rated highest by members in a poll conducted on Monday for the Conservative Home website. She was followed in popularity by Kemi Badenoch, the equalities minister, and Rishi Sunak, whose resignation as the finance minister contributed to Johnson’s downfall.

He added, “There seems to be a quite a big field at the moment, a lively contest. I hope we will have a very constructive contest, but (also) a really good opportunity for a proper, healthy, constructive debate about the future direction of the Conservative Party.”

The struggle for the top position follows one of the most turbulent episodes in contemporary British political history, during which more than 50 government ministers and advisers resigned, criticising Johnson’s moral character, honesty, and lack of candour.

The new leader will also need to stem the tide of dwindling Conservative support. According to a Savanta ComRes poll released on Monday, the opposition Labour Party has its largest poll advantage since 2013 with 43 percent to the Conservatives’ 28 percent.

The race for succession has already taken a personal turn.

Another candidate, former finance minister Sajid Javid, criticised what he called “poisonous rumours” and “attack memos” made over the weekend by some colleagues.

Indian locals create fake IPL to deceive Russian gamblers

Indian locals create fake IPL
  • Russian gamblers were duped by a group of Indian locals who staged a “fake IPL”.
  • The incident happened in a rural Gujrat village.
  • The gang defrauded Russian gamblers online, and installments of INR 300,000 were sent.

Russian gamblers were duped by a group of Indian locals who staged a “fake Indian Premier League” (IPL) in a rural Gujrat village.

According to allegations in the Indian media, authorities have detained a gang of locals who were involved in defrauding Russian gamblers online.

According to the allegations, con artists staged a “fake IPL” that was broadcast live in the Russian cities of Tver, Voronezh, and Moscow.

Telegram was used to communicate with the Russian gamblers, and after the group was apprehended by law enforcement, the first installment of the bets, totaling INR 300,000, was sent.

Shoeb Davda, a local of Molipur, Gujarat, was identified by the police as the bogus league’s brains, and they added that he had previously spent eight months working in a Russian gambling establishment.

“Shoeb hired Ghulam Masih’s farm and put halogen lights in it. He prepared 21 farm workers by guaranteeing them Rs. 400 for each match. He then employed cameramen and purchased IPL team t-shirts,” a police officer informed Indian media.

Shoeb used to operate through a walkie-talkie to teach umpires how to signal fours and sixes. The same was stated by the umpires to the bowler and the batsman.

The bowler would follow orders and throw a slow ball, allowing the batsman to knock it for a four or a six,” the official continued.

For added “authenticity of the fake IPL,” a commentator from Meerut who had the ability to imitate well-known Indian pundit Harsha Bhogle, was also involved.

Bhogle, who was paying attention, laughed out loud when he heard the news.

“Can’t help but laugh. Must hear this “commentator,” the commenter tweeted.

According to the unusual warning, the extreme heat may pose a threat to life or result in serious disease.

Following a string of grass fires, fire departments have recommended people to go on picnics rather than barbecues during the good weather.

In the meantime, the AA Driving School and RAC advised drivers to have water on them, start their trips earlier in the day, plan their routes, and inspect their vehicles before leaving.

Additionally, Hampshire County Council announced that it was getting ready to use gritters to shield vehicles from melting roadways.

The Met Office predicts that on Tuesday, temperatures will soar to the late 20s across the majority of England, but will reach 30C in London, Chelmsford, and Sudbury in Suffolk.

Pakistan women cricket team skipper optimistic about Tri-series

Commonwealth Games Pakistan women cricket team
  • Bismah Maroof-led team will depart for Belfast in the early hours of Tuesday.
  • Australia and Ireland will play each other twice.
  • Commonwealth cricket matches are to be held at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham.

Bismah Maroof-led team will depart for Belfast in the early hours of Tuesday after their training camp for the tri-series in Ireland and the Commonwealth Games completed on Saturday (July 12).

The team tried to maximize their time during the training camp by practicing various T20 cricket skills during impromptu drills, net sessions, and scenario-based games.

Under the direction of the support staff, led by head coach David Hemp, the team worked hard on fielding and physical preparation in addition to bowling and batting drills and practice.

“The tri-series in Ireland gives us a fantastic opportunity to acclimate to the circumstances prior to the Commonwealth Games,” according to Captain Bismah Maroof.

“Young players like Tuba Hassan, Ayesha Naseem, and Fatima Sana bring true energy, talent, and skill to our team. These players are the ones of the future, and this tour is a great chance for them to leave a lasting impact.”

“Since we need to defeat the top teams in order to win at the Commonwealth Games, we would accept the challenge of playing formidable opponents. Our goal would be to achieve success,” she added.

On July 16, Australia and Pakistan will square off in the opening game of the Tri-Nation Women’s T20I Series at the Bready Cricket Club.

Pakistan will play both Australia and Ireland twice, with the top two teams moving on to the championship game. The Bready Cricket Club will host each of the seven tournament games.

At the Birmingham Edgbaston Stadium, there will be cricket matches taking place during the Games.

The Commonwealth cricket matches are to be held at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham.
