Indonesia Cancels Hajj Pilgrimage 2021 Due To COVID-19 Fears

Indonesia Hajj 2021 cancelled

The government of Indonesia has cancelled the Hajj Pilgrimage 2021 for the second time due to the novel Coronavirus outbreak.

According to the religious affairs ministry, Saudi Arabia has not opened access to the Hajj after which Indonesia cancels the Pilgrimage amidst COVID fears.

Last year, more than 220,000 people from the world’s biggest Muslim-majority country were set to take part in Hajj.

However, Muslims from Indonesia, who have been on a pilgrimage waiting list for years, are disappointed after the government’s decision.

Indonesia, the country with the most Muslim majority, also provides the largest number of Hajj pilgrims.

According to this division, Indonesia ranks up highest in terms of Muslims arriving for Hajj in Mecca followed by Pakistan and India in second and third positions.

Earlier in 2020, the Indonesian government had cancelled the departure of pilgrims for Hajj 2020 due to health concerns amid Coronavirus.

The religious affairs minister had explained this decision was made after much consideration, especially regarding health concerns.

“The religion itself teaches that protecting the soul is an obligation that must be prioritized. ”

“These all become the basis for consideration in making the policy, “he said during a press conference.

He had added that the global scale pandemic has affected the social aspects of religious worship.

Hajj, the pilgrimage to Islam’s holiest sites in the cities of Mecca and Medina, is one of the five pillars of Islam.

Muslims required to perform Hajj at least once in their life if they are able to do so.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s tenure about to end as Israeli Opposition join hands

Benjamin Netanyahu likely to unseat

Israel’s opposition leader Yair Lapid has announced the exit of Benjamin Netanyahu, the country’s longest-serving Prime Minister after parties strike a coalition deal.

According to media reports, a coalition of Israeli political parties has announced to form a new government that will unseat Benjamin Netanyahu’s 12-year rule.

Under the coalition deal, Lapid, leader of the centrist party of Yesh Atid, and Bennett, leader of the nationalist party of Yamina, will rotate the premiership.

Bennett will serve first as Prime Minister, the reports added.

In a statement, Lapid said, “The government will work to serve all the citizens of Israel including those who aren’t members of it, will respect those who oppose it, and do everything in its power to unite all parts of Israeli society.”

Israeli political analysts widely expected Netanyahu to try every possible political tactic to make this happen.

“Calm down. Netanyahu’s still prime minister for a few more days until the confidence vote and he’s going to fight every inch of the way to deny the new government its wafer-thin majority. This is still very far from over,” Anshel Pfeffer, political analyst, wrote on Twitter.

Netanyahu, restrains 30 seats in the 120-member Knesset, almost twice as many as Lapid’s Yesh Atid party. The Israeli premier is allied with at least three other religious and nationalist parties.

During a 12-year run in the top office, Israel’s longest-serving leader has been an often polarizing figure at home and abroad.

Netanyahu, 71, has sought to discredit the Bennett-Lapid alliance, saying it would endanger Israel’s security.

Lapid has campaigned under a pledge to “return sanity” to Israel, focusing on Netanyahu’s corruption trial on charges which he denies.

“This government will work for all Israel’s citizens, those who voted for it and those who did not. It will respect its opponents and do all it can to unites and connect all parts of Israeli society,” Lapid said on Twitter.

Corruption Cases

According to the international news agency, Netanyahu is accused of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in three separate cases.

Case 1,000: Fraud and breach of trust: he is accused of receiving gifts such as cigars and bottles of champagne from powerful businessmen in exchange for favours

Case 2,000: Fraud and breach of trust: Mr Netanyahu is accused of offering to help improve the circulation of the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot for positive coverage

Case 4,000: Bribery, fraud and breach of trust: Mr Netanyahu is accused of promoting regulatory decisions favourable to the controlling shareholder in the Bezeq telecom giant, Shaul Elovitch, in exchange for positive coverage by Mr Elovitch’s Walla news site

Prime Minister Imran Khan has on Thursday emphasized the need for the tree plantation target under the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Program to protect the environmental future of the nation.

While addressing the special event on Green Financing Innovations today, PM Imran said that environmental protection is better for future generations. He also called for establishing national parks and promoting urban forestry.

The Prime Minister said it is welcoming that people have started developing awareness about tree plantation, and school children are also taking part in the campaign.

“Every citizen should contribute to making the country green,” he said.

Imran Khan said Pakistan contributes to global carbon emission less than one per cent; however, it is one of the most vulnerable countries in respect of global warming effects due to glacier melting.

He said, “The world started giving attention to the climate change issue about twenty years ago and it is now realizing the gravity of the situation.”

“Pakistan will take the lead in the global efforts for environmental protection,” the premier added.

Moreover, at today’s event, World Bank’s study on “Blue Carbon” will also be presented which, for the first time, gives an economic value to the country’s unvalued marine wealth including Pakistan’s mangroves and seagrasses.

Both these studies have paved the ground to give an economic value to Pakistan’s Natural Capital in both terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

An MoU with China’s Elion group would be signed for piloting green ecological zones in Pakistan.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that the massive change in climate will surely affect the future generations of Pakistan.

While addressing the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Program ceremony, the Prime Minister had said that Pakistan is unfortunately amongst the ten countries which are most vulnerable to climate change. “We want to leave a better Pakistan for future generations,” he added.

He further added that Pakistan will host “World Environment Day” on June 5 after its efforts to bring beneficial climate change by planting trees.

He had said the government has embarked upon a series of projects including that of Ten Billion Tree Tsunami, national parks’ establishment and restoration of wetlands and wildlife to achieve that objective.

The premier had said these projects will also provide job opportunities to the people and contribute to the promotion of tourism.
