Rhea Chakraborty arrested

Following the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, his girlfriend actress Rhea Chakraborty, who was sent into 14-day judicial custody late on Tuesday night, has been brought to Byculla jail women’s facility by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials.

Rhea Chakraborty will be in custody there till September 22. However, after Rhea’s bail plea was rejected yesterday, her lawyer Satish Maneshinde will apply for bail in a higher court today again.

The actress was taken into custody after she confessed to procuring drugs in the investigation of Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

Rhea is the tenth person to have been arrested in the late actor’s case after her brother.

“Rhea has been arrested and the due process of informing the family has been completed,” NCB Deputy Director (Operations) KPS Malthotra said.

The NCB said they arrested Rhea after her WhatsApp chats revealed links with drug peddlers.

“We arrested her, which means we have enough evidence. Since we have already questioned her in the past few days, we don’t need to interrogate her any more,” said Deputy DG Mutha Ashok Jain.

This proves she was “an active member of a drug syndicate”, the agency said.

Meanwhile, other Bollywood celebrities have tried justifying on Rhea’s behalf saying that she has been arrested for procuring drugs and not for murder or gold-digging charges.

The former president further pleaded with the court to acquit him after quashing the reference. His lawyer Farooq H Naek requested the judge to fix the next hearing of the case on Sept 17 when he will forward his arguments in favour of his client’s acquittal plea.

On the other hand, the NAB prosecutor objected to the accused’s moving acquittal plea before indictment.

“I am ready to present arguments on it, why aren’t they.”

“We have not filed any supplementary reference in the money laundering case. The case was transferred from Karachi so he had filed a reference after his interrogation,” he maintained.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Accountability Court Judge Azam Khan adjourned the hearing till September 17.

Samsung, LG Display to stop supplying panels to Huawei due to U.S. restrictions

Huawei

Samsung Electronics’ display unit and LG Display Co Ltd  are expected to stop supplying panels for premium smartphones to Huawei Technologies due to U.S. restrictions, media reports said.

Samsung Display, which counts Samsung Electronics and Apple as major customers for OLED display screens, declined comment.

LG Display said in a statement the U.S. move will have a minimal impact on the company given its limited panel shipments to Huawei, adding it will continue to diversify its customer base.

The U.S. further tightened restrictions on Huawei in August, banning suppliers from selling chips made using U.S. technology to the Chinese telecom giant without a special license.

Samsung Display and LG Display decided to stop the supply to Huawei from when the restrictions take effect on Sept. 15, as the ban includes chips needed to operate displays, and orders from Huawei do not take up a large portion of their business compared to customers like Apple, sources said.
