TEHRAN – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will travel to China in the coming days for a three-day visit aimed at expanding economic relations, according to official media.

According to Iran’s national news agency, Raisi will depart for Beijing on Monday evening in response to an official invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Both presidents first met last September in Uzbekistan at a Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference, where the Iranian president advocated for stronger ties.

On his upcoming trip, Raisi is expected to hold private talks with Xi, and delegations from both countries are due to sign “cooperation documents.”

Raisi will also meet with Chinese businesses and Iranians who live in the country.

Iran and China have strong economic relations, particularly in energy, transportation, agriculture, trade, and investment.

Both countries signed in 2021 a 25-year “strategic cooperation pact” said to include “political, strategic and economic” components.

According to Iranian customs authorities’ 10-month figures, China is Iran’s largest trade partner.

Iran’s exports to Beijing totaled $12.6 billion, while imports from China totaled $12.7 billion.

SCO Summit 2022: PM Shehbaz leaves for Uzbekistan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday left for Uzbekistan on a two-day visit to attend the annual meeting of the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) being held on September 15-16.

In a tweet prior to his departure, the prime minister said Pakistan reiterated its commitment to ‘Shanghai Spirit’.

“Mutual respect and trust can be the bedrock of shared development and prosperity,” he posted on his Twitter handle.

He said the SCO had a great potential to chart a way forward at a time of deeply worrying transformation in the geo-political and geo-economic fields

“The global economic turbulence has necessitated the need for more cooperation among the SCO member countries. The SCO vision represents the aspirations of 40 percent of world population,” he said.

On the first day of his two-day visit to SCO Summit 2022, the prime minister will hold separate meetings with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Tajikistan Imomali Rehmon.

In the SCO Summit 2022, the prime minister is scheduled to meet other world leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.

Soon after his arrival at the Samarkand Airport, the prime minister will proceed to the Hazrat Khizr Complex, where he will visit the Khizr Mosque and will also pay respects at the mausoleum of Uzbekistan’s first president, Islam Karimov.

Pakistan Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that India is facing isolation due to its behaviour at the international forums.

According to the details, in his recent statement, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said India is facing defeat at international forums due to its aggressive behaviour.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi reacted over the Indian objection raised over a political map of Pakistan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)and that the Modi Administration’s objection was rejected at the SCO and added that even Russia as hosts of the summit did not second Indian objection.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Kashmir is a bilateral issue between Pakistan and India and such issues cannot be raised at the SCO.

“Such issues are raised at the sideline meetings,” he added.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Indian occupied Kashmir is a disputed territory and United Nations (UN) resolutions are also there for its solution.

Qureshi further added that Beijing repeatedly urged for talks for the solution of the Ladakh issue, but India took aggressive position and faced defeat.

Pakistan rejects unwarranted references

On September 15, Pakistan strongly rejected the unwarranted references to Pakistan in the Joint Statement of U.S-India Counter-Terrorism Joint Working Group and Designations Dialogue.

Pakistan urged the US to refrain from endorsing positions that are “one-sided” and “divorced from ground realities” in South Asia.

In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said our serious concerns and rejection of the unacceptable reference to Pakistan in the afore-mentioned Joint Statement have been conveyed to the U.S. side.

He said it is important that partner countries take an objective view of the issues of peace and security in South Asia and refrain from endorsing positions that are one-sided and divorced from ground realities.

The Spokesperson said the international community is well aware that Pakistan is a country most affected by cross-border terrorism, sponsored and supported by India.
