“I believe that as performers, we have a duty to be mindful of the behaviours we promote. Even when I was portraying characters like Satisavitri, the girl next door, or a damsel in distress, I would find myself wondering why we weren’t talking about the extraordinary things that other women were accomplishing. How many of these sad stories are we going to do, I wondered even then. Sarwat disclosed.

Sarwat Gillani sensed things moving as Churails approached her. I actually always fought for women’s rights on many platforms before Churails. I thought that, on the one hand, I’m urging women to speak up, so how can I be acting like a woman who can do nothing for herself on the other? I would no longer be able to defend a character this meek and weak. The discrepancy there is significant.

Unapologetically, Sarwat said, “Girls have raised their standards in Pakistan; they are more career-oriented, multitaskers, and wise; even as housewives, they take care of a lot of things on their own; there are a lot of successful women who have overcome a lot of obstacles. not just personally, but also professionally. And talking about that is not permitted. A lovely medium, art allows you to express the most repulsive topics in their purest form. like in Mataye Jaan’s Hania. Why aren’t we discussing information that is more realistic, useful, and elevating for Pakistani women?
Why, the actor questioned, must we always discuss demeaning women? That information won’t benefit women. It will just support [problematic] male behaviour!
