President Arif Alvi reaches Turkey; eyes strengthen Pak-Turkey ties

President Dr Arif Alvi has on Sunday arrived in Turkey on a three-day visit at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Governor Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya, senior Turkish officials and Ambassador of Pakistan Muhammad Syrus Qazi received President Arif Alvi at the Atatürk Airport.

During his stay, the President will hold meetings with the Turkish leadership including his Turkish counterpart.

The President will also be meeting with the leading Turkish businessmen to boost economic cooperation between the two countries.

Both the brotherly countries enjoy excellent relations and the visit of President Alvi will further deepen fraternal ties.

Moreover, the President of Pakistan conferred Pakistan’s civil awards upon Dr. Selami Kiliç (Sitara-e-Imtiaz) and Prof. Dr. Celal Soydan (Sitara-e-Quaid-e-Azam) for their outstanding contributions and services to Pakistan, at a special investiture ceremony in Istanbul.

The fraternal relations between Pakistan and Turkey are deeply embedded in common faith, culture and history and underpinned by exceptional mutual trust and respect.

The strategic relationship between the two countries continues to grow from strength to strength, with an increasing focus on the economic dimension.

The frequent leadership-level exchanges and regular coordination on a range of issues between the two countries signify the commonality of views and strength of the bilateral relationship.

Earlier this week, Minister of National Defence of Turkey General Hulusi Akar (R) undertook a visit to Islamabad, during which he met Pakistani officials.

He called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Prime Minister Imran Khan and reaffirmed Turkey’s full support of Pakistan’s stance on regional and international issues.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction at the existing level of bilateral defence cooperation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan also thanked for Turkey’s strong and consistent support to Pakistan on all issues, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

On regional issues, the premier shared Pakistan’s perspective on the Afghan peace process. “A negotiated political settlement was the only way forward,” he added.

PM Imran also expressed hope that the Afghan leaders would recognize the importance of international convergence on the way forward and achieve an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement.
