What is the agenda of Boris Johnson's India visit?

When British Prime Minister Boris Johnson meets with his Indian PM, Narendra Modi, counterpart on Friday, authorities expect him to help India move away from its reliance on Russia by increasing economic and defence relations. During his meeting with Modi, Johnson is expected to bring up the situation in Ukraine.

“Our relations have never been as strong or as good between us as they are now,’’ A formal reception in the forecourt of the presidential palace in New Delhi on Friday,’ Johnson told reporters.

Johnson stated shortly after his arrival in India on Thursday that he was aware of India’s and Russia’s tight connections.

“We have to reflect that reality. But clearly, I’ll be talking about it to Narendra Modi,” he said.

According to Johnson’s tweet, the Ukraine conflict is expected to be discussed by the two leaders today.

Johnson had recently visited Ukraine and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, the country’s capital. The United Kingdom has repeatedly urged Russia to put an end to the violence.

The UK PM revealed his experience in Gujarat in a late-night tweet on Thursday, only hours after kicking off the India visit and confirming a 1 billion pound contract.

“It’s been a real pleasure to be in Gujarat today to see the fruits of the incredible partnership between the UK and our friends in India. Today we have confirmed more than £1 billion in new investments between our two great countries, creating almost 11,000 new jobs in the UK.”

Johnson is also expected to meet with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar in Delhi today.

Johnson thanked India for the warm welcome in a brief address. “Thank you for the fantastic welcome…I don’t think things have ever been as strong or as good between us (India-UK) as they are now,” he said.

The United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Boris Johnson has cancelled his official visit to India following the surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.

Boris Johnson’s visit to India after an explosion of coronavirus cases there. Later, the Britain government India added to the “red list” of countries, banning all arrivals from India except for the UK or Irish nationals.

According to the details, from Friday, people who have travelled from India in the last 10 days will be denied entrance.

British or Irish passport holders as well as people with UK residence rights will be allowed to enter but must quarantine for 10 days in a hotel approved by the government.

The UK and Indian governments called off Johnson’s visit, which was set for next week after already being delayed in January.

It would have been the premier’s first major foreign visit since he took charge in 2019.

His previous trip to India had been cancelled in view of the Coronavirus in England and the national lockdown situation across the country.

The spokesman for the British Prime Minister had said that relations and cooperation between the two countries would continue in the same manner, even during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Boris Johnson appeals people to stay calm during new COVID strain

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has urged the people to stay calm as the government decided to impose complete lockdown across the country following a new coronavirus strain.

Speaking at a press conference, Boris Johnson advised people to continue shopping for the holiday season as usual, reassuring them that the supply of food and medicines will not be affected by the new wave of the coronavirus and the resulting border travel bans the country has been facing.

He revealed that he held a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.

The British prime minister said that he is aware of precautions of various countries regarding the new virus while 0.5 million people have been vaccinated in the country.

The precautions raised fears of food shortages in Britain if the restrictions drag on.

As Johnson confirmed that more than 500,000 people had received the first dose of the only approved Covid vaccine, scientists said harsher measures now could save the lives of those yet to be immunized.
