Federal Bureau of Statistics reports slight rise in inflation for June

 The Federal Bureau of Statistics has published its latest monthly inflation report, revealing a modest increase of 0.23% in overall inflation for June compared to May.

The report highlights divergent trends across urban and rural areas. Urban centers experienced a marginal monthly inflation increase of 0.08%, bringing the urban inflation rate to 3%, while rural regions saw a more substantial rise of 0.47%, pushing rural inflation to 3.58%.

Prices of essential food items such as tomatoes, potatoes, onions, eggs, jaggery, rice, wheat flour, sugar, fresh fruits, and milk have continued to climb. Conversely, prices for chicken, fresh vegetables, mustard oil, pulses, and cooking oil have decreased, offering some relief to consumers.

The Bureau emphasizes that these fluctuations reflect ongoing changes in market dynamics and seasonal factors.

The value of the dollar should be controlled and unnecessary imports should be banned, said the President of UBG.

Zubair Tufail, former president of FPCCI and president of United Business Group, has said that the devaluation of the rupee against the dollar has led to imports and the gap between exports is widening and immediate action should be taken, the situation could become alarmingly dangerous.

Zubair Tufail said in a statement that the rupee’s rise to Rs 167 against the dollar would lead to a storm of inflation in the country and food prices would skyrocket, making the livelihood of the poor and middle class more difficult while the trade deficit. It is feared to grow to alarming proportions.

Zubair Tufail appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan to take immediate action realizing the gravity of the situation as the appreciation of the dollar has led to fears that the rupee will depreciate further which will affect not only national security but also the economy.

If Prime Minister Imran Khan does not solve this problem, Pakistan’s sovereignty will be endangered, the country’s debt will increase sharply, and therefore it is necessary to control the value of the dollar and unnecessary imports.

The government should take steps to curb unnecessary imports on an emergency basis. In this age of inflation, it has become inevitable to stop the value of the dollar in one place. The people of Pakistan cannot afford further inflation.

Inflation continues to decline in Pakistan: Asad Umar

Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar says inflation continues to decline in the country.

In a tweet on Sunday, he said during current month inflation on Consumer Price Index is down to 5.7 percent, while the Core Inflation is at 5.4 percent.

Asad Umar said prior to PTI government formation, in July 2018, the Cosumer Price Index was 5.8 percent while core was 7.6 percent, indicating that the rate of inflation is lower today than prior to the PTI government.

Earlier, Asad Umar had stressed on maintaining the momentum of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and following the timelines for their early completion.

He had said CPEC is a priority project for enhancing Pak-China economic cooperation.

The forum reviewed the progress on various projects undertaken by the Working Groups under CPEC.

The meeting was briefed on the overall progress of CPEC projects in Industrial Cooperation, Energy, Infrastructure, Gwadar, Science and Technology, Socio-Economic Development, Agriculture, Transport and Communications and issues faced in the implementation of these projects.

The committee also emphasized that unresolved inter- ministerial issues should be brought before the Cabinet Committee on CPEC directly by the respective Ministries along with recommendations for their resolution.

The committee noted that significant progress has been achieved on various projects.
