COAS congratulates nation, govt and ECP on successful conduct of polls

COAS

RAWALPINDI:  Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir congratulated the entire Pakistani Nation, Caretaker Government, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Political Parties and all winning candidates on successful conduct of General Elections 2024.

The Army Chief in a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the free and unhindered participation by Pakistani people to exercise their right of vote demonstrated their commitment to democracy and the rule of law as enshrined in Constitution of Pakistan.

The COAS said, “Leadership and personnel of law-enforcement agencies deserve our highest appreciation for creating a safe and secure environment for the electoral process, despite overwhelming odds. The constructive role played by national media, civil society, members of civil administration and judiciary enabled the successful conduct of the largest electoral exercise in national history.”

“Pakistan’s diverse polity and pluralism will be well-represented by a unified government of all democratic forces imbibed with national purpose,” he added. “Elections and democracy are means to serve people of Pakistan and not ends in themselves.

The nation needs stable hands and a healing touch to move on from the politics of anarchy and polarisation which does not suit a progressive country of 250 Million people. Elections are not a zero-sum competition of winning and losing but an exercise to determine the mandate of the people.

Political leadership and their workers should rise above self-interests and synergise efforts in governing and serving the people which is perhaps the only way to make democracy functional and purposeful,” the Army Chief said.

As the people of Pakistan have reposed their combined trust in the Constitution of Pakistan, it is now incumbent upon all political parties to reciprocate the same with political maturity and unity. As we move forward from this national milestone we must reflect on where the country stands today and where our rightful place should be in the comity of nations, he added.

LoC Visit: PM, COAS pay tribute to sacrifices of martyrs

RAWALPINDI: Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Ch. Anwar ul Haq and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir visited the Muzaffarabad Jammu and Kashmir Monument to lay wreaths and pay rich tribute to the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release, the leadership acknowledged that the fortitude, resilience and unwavering faith of the Kashmiris in the face of unabated brutality of Indian occupation forces in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) had been exemplary.

PM, COAS visit Muzaffarabad Monument, pay tribute to sacrifices of martyrs They observed that brewing humanitarian and security crises in the IIOJK seriously threatened regional peace and stability. Pakistan would always stand with the Kashmiris in their just struggle for the inalienable right to self-determination in light of the United Nations Security Council resolutions, they added. “India is attempting to change the demography of IIOJK through illegal administrative and unilaterally imposed draconian laws and security clampdowns. Such machinations cannot suppress the will and the yearning of the Kashmiri people to attain their legitimate objectives,” the leadership resolved.

The COAS later visited troops deployed on the front lines along Line of Control (LOC) in the Sarian Sector. The Army Chief was briefed about the latest situation along the LOC and appreciated the operational readiness, high morale and effective response of troops to Indian ceasefire violations (CFVs). Addressing the troops, the COAS reiterated that any aggression or violation of territorial sovereignty of Pakistan would be responded with full national resolve and military might.

“The Pakistan Army is well versed with the full threat spectrum and is perpetually ready to respond effectively,” he added. The COAS also mentioned the Indian state sponsored terrorism in Pakistan which now extended to heinous targeting of individual Pakistani citizens on its soil.

“Such callous disregard for international law and norms of international system is becoming a routine occurrence and India is now being called out openly by many countries in the world, exposing her sham credentials.”

Pakistan would continue to expose all such attempts and ensure the security of its citizens, the COAS concluded.
