Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, became the second Hindi movie to break the 300 crore milestone most quickly after Baahubali 2: The Conclusion after earning 21 crore crore nett on its seventh day in India. The first week domestic box office earnings for Pathaan currently total 315 crore nett. The January 25 release of Pathaan also features Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Ashutosh Rana, and Dimple Kapadia.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who tweeted on Wednesday, Pathaan, which has been setting and shattering records since it was released worldwide, entered the 300 crore club in just seven days, breaking the previous record held by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’s Hindi version since 2017, which needed 10 days to do so. In comparison to Aamir Khan’s Dangal (2016), he said that the Hindi version of KGF: Chapter 2 (2022) achieved the 300 crore mark in 11 days. It took 16 days for both Sanju (2018) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) to join the 300 crore club. In contrast, it took Aamir’s PK (2014) and Hrithik Roshan’s War (2019), respectively, 17 and 19 days to reach the 300 crore mark.

In addition, according to a Box Office India report, Pathaan’s first week box office haul of 315 crore nett is 65 crore nett higher than KGF: Chapter 2, which had the greatest first week total before Pathaan surpassed it in five days. Pathaan, a Siddharth Anand-directed film, was made available in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu the day before Republic Day in 2023. Actor Salman Khan also makes a guest appearance in the action movie produced by Yash Raj Films.

Since its debut, Pathaan has been shattering records. The movie became the fastest Hindi film to join the 200 crore club when it crossed the 200 crore nett threshold in only four days in the past. With its amazing advance bookings, the movie Pathaan broke records even before it was released. On January 20, advance reservations for Pathaan were available.

According to reports, theater owners in various regions of India decided to screen the movie early in the morning due to rising demand. Prior to Pathaan’s opening day, sources stated that the morning showings of the movie had been canceled due to demonstrations outside Indore theaters. After receiving demands for a boycott and demonstrations against the movie’s cast and crew in recent weeks, Pathaan was finally released on January 25.

Mumbai: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan´s new film “Pathaan” has smashed Indian box office records following its release last week, bringing hope to Bollywood after a spate of weak showings.

“Pathaan” recorded the highest-ever box office collections for a Hindi film for its opening and second day in India, and raked in 2.5 billion rupees ($30 million) in its first five days, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted Sunday.

Its international ticket sales soared past one billion rupees ($13.7 million) in just three days, according to Yash Raj Films, which produced the movie.

It comes after glitzy Hindi-language Bollywood films struggled at the box office following the reopening of Indian cinemas about a year ago after a pandemic hiatus.

“The unprecedented celebratory success of ´Pathaan´ I think speaks volumes about where we are headed as the Hindi movie industry,” movie theatre chain owner Akshaye Rathi said Monday.

“Here we are back to the old school way of celebrating cinema in theatres as a community viewing experience.”

The release of “Pathaan”, 57-year-old Khan´s first movie in four years, had been highly anticipated.

Khan, popularly known as “King Khan”, has a huge fan following around the world. The film also features Bollywood heart-throb Deepika Padukone and action hero John Abraham.

Videos shared on social media showed fans in Indian cinemas dancing and cheering during the film.

It is a silent revolt by the public against the RW (Right Wing) brigade.” Kangana reacted to it, tweeting, “If success of Pathaan is openly and shamelessly associated with success of Left Wing politics, which is associated with a party (Congress) then why film industry cries foul if Right Wing ideology opposes them? First decide whether films/ art is political or not.. .If yes then fight opposition righteously aisa nahi ho sakta (it cannot be so that) when you win toh you make films political and rub in our faces and when we win you cry foul and shame us by calling us RW bigots who are exploiting art for political agenda… logic ki maa bahen mat karo sudhar jao (don’t abuse logic, correct your ways now).”

The moment I spotted Deepika Padukone’s name on wardrobe trunks when I was filming at the Yash Raj studio in Mumbai, not even the title. I anticipated that this movie would be tremendously successful. She is very stunning.

Asked about Shah Rukh Khan, she added, “I’m going to catch some ire for this but I didn’t know who he was until we worked together. One of the assistant directors explained that he was a big deal. We had a nice day together and it turns out we share the same birthday.”

Recalling how it all began, Rachel said, “My incredible agent, Ravi Ahuja had me audition for the part. I was in the Maldives when I got the call that I booked it and immediately went to Mumbai for costume fitting.”

She also talked about the response that she has received since the release of Pathaan: “I’ve gotten so much love because of it. Watching the response from fans the world over has left me with my jaw on the floor.”

Speaking on how Hollywood and Bollywood operate differently, she said that there are some aspects that are extremely similar. However, she continued, “The production value and degree of talent in individual actors is the fundamental difference between Hollywood and Bollywood. In Bollywood, everyone has an equal ability to act, sing, and dance. That is incredibly uncommon in Hollywood. Hollywood, a union town, has a tonne of labour restrictions, but Bollywood doesn’t have the same stringent regulations. Bollywood today resembles old Hollywood more.

“I learned that following my instincts and changing myself when the world changes is never a bad decision. I’m so happy I refused to stop working even when Hollywood shut down. I’m a big believer in the idea of going where you’re treated best and I love that Bollywood is really accepting of me,” she said.

Elaborating on how the switch to Indian entertainment happened for her, Rachel said, “After I shot part of my documentary that I directed and produced in India, back in 2016. I spoke to an agent on LinkedIn. We talked about Bollywood projects for years and I was very busy in Hollywood. However, when coronavirus lockdown imploded the entertainment business in Los Angeles I thought it was time to make the jump. At the height of India’s lockdown I was admitted and immediately started auditioning for projects the day after I landed.”

Talking about her first Indian project, Rachel Ann Mullins says, “The first time I went to India was for a documentary which I was producing and directing. Interviewing girls living in an acid attack survivor house in New Delhi changed my career and me as a person.”

Given the huge response to the film, which opened in 5,000 screens with big cities, including Delhi-NCR and Mumbai, beginning shows at 6 am and 7 am, Yash Raj Films said it had added a post midnight 12.30 am show across the country beginning Wednesday. Besides, 300 more screens were added due to high demand, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film’s screen count now stands at 8,500 worldwide, he said.

Besharam Rang, a song in the movie directed by Siddharth Anand that showcases Deepika Padukone in a variety of outfits—including a saffron bikini—has prompted demands for a boycott.

The movie’s triumph, which is expected to have the greatest opening for any Hindi film ever, was depicted in a fan-adoration montage. There have been boycott requests and demonstrations from several political organisations against Pathaan, particularly its song Besharam Rang. Following the release of the song’s music video, some political parties took issue with Deepika Padukone’s orange swimsuit, notably its colour, leading to rallies and the burning of posters around the nation. When Besharam Rang was launched in December 2022, among others, Narottam Mishra, the home minister for Madhya Pradesh, opposed to it.
