United States offers $10 million who provide suspected hackers information

United States

Get $10 million by providing information on suspected cyber terrorists, extremists, and state-sponsored hackers, an offer is made by the United States government.

U.S. State Department created a platform named “Rewards for Justice (RFJ)” for the individual who provides anonymous tips and information in return for rewards in digital assets. The informants have the option of receiving pay in cryptocurrency or not.

On the site, people submit tips using an unsecured Wi-Fi network named #RewardsnotRansoms, which was advertised at a Black Hat event in the United States in Las Vegas.

Users can log in and access the Rewards for Justice Website due to the open network.

The initiative was described as ‘the U.S. government’s most public foray into crypto assets’ by Former Director of the U.S. National Counterintelligence and Security Center William Evanina.

Although tips are already rolling in, one State Department official noted that cyber-enforcement activities are typically delayed, noting that:

“We are receiving tips. We are evaluating tips. We’ll share those tips with the interagency partners. They must then use that information and reach out and begin their investigation”.

Another official said:

“I think this offer of cryptocurrency is something that we will be using in the future for other types of rewards. It could encourage other types of sources to come to us with information who may not have wanted to come to us before”.

Rajveer Ankur Singh criticises Bollywood’s tight-knit culture, saying: “It’s impossible to get inside.”

Rajveer Ankur Singh

Singh, who is currently in the United States with his six-year-old daughter, claims that while Bollywood has shied away from him, the south film industry has welcomed him with open arms.

Rajveer Ankur Singh
Rajveer Ankur Singh is best known for his role in the Haryanvi film, G Kutta Se

The model-turned-actor, for many who are rank outsiders in the film industry, it continues to be a struggle to break into Bollywood and that stands true for Rajveer Ankur Singh, who made his acting debut with Haryanvi movie, G Kutta Se (2017), had no good work offers after that despite receiving rave reviews for his first film.

“Bollywood has become such a close-knit culture. At this point, for an outsider to get inside and get the work they deserve, is so difficult. After G Kutta Se, everyone praised me, but I had to wait,” says Singh, adding, “If I was from a film family, I’d have got 100 offers. But because I’m an outsider, I didn’t get any work. I’ve faced that first hand.”

“Here, your destiny isn’t in your hands. Even after proving myself, I’ve to wait for good work. Being an actor is an emotionally tiring job, there are so many ups and downs. The possibility of success is slim,” adds Singh, who was recently seen in the short film, Ek Dua with Esha Deol.

Noting how difficult it is to enter into the Hindi film industry, the actor adds that getting into IIM or ITT is easier than breaking into Bollywood.

“I was offered roles but they weren’t good enough. I just didn’t want to make money by doing random roles. So, I continued modeling and do ads, while waiting for the right opportunity. I also did some big South projects — Telugu films Amar Akbar Anthony, Sarileru Neekevvaru with Mahesh Babu, Rang and Seetimaarr with Tottempudi Gopichand. I also took up farming and that has kept me busy for the last few years,” he shares.

Binance XRP docs have been given to Ripple’s CEO

Binance

Binance has allowed Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse to request data on XRP transactions.

Access to Binance papers of XRP transactions has been granted to Ripple’s CEO.

Brad Garlinghouse’s application to collect records from Binance was approved by Sarah Netburn, the presiding judge in Ripple’s continuing case with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a complaint against Garlinghouse for allegedly violating the Securities Act of 1933.

Last Monday, Garlinghouse’s legal team filed a motion with Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, asking for details on XRP sales.

Ripple filed the move as part of its international discovery procedure, which collects data on every XRP sale conducted on the exchange.

The motion was just approved, which comes as no surprise given the SEC’s lack of objections. The permission is seen as a minor victory for Ripple in the court fight.

On behalf of Garlinghouse, the court will send a Letter of Request to the Cayman Islands-based exchange. Binance will give papers that can be used as evidence in the case if it heeds the request.

The SEC claimed in a lawsuit filed in December 2020 that Ripple and its officers, CEO Brad Garlinghouse and executive chairman Chris Larsen, gained $1.3 billion in unregistered security sales over an eight-year period.

Ripple’s legal team has denied the accusation. They also recently invoked the “Lack of Clarity” Defense, claiming that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) did not make its securities regulations more clear. They’ve devised a new defense strategy.

By displaying XRP sales that took place outside of the United States, the Ripple team hopes to demonstrate that the SEC may not have power over such transactions.

Binance is a key source of XRP sales statistics in this regard. Bitfinex, Bithumb, Bitstamp, HitBTC, Huobi Global, and OKEx were previously authorized to collect similar information from other exchanges where XRP sales were performed.

Bitcoin ” versus “ the Chinese Digital Yuan

Bitcoin

Over 80 governments throughout the world (representing 90% of global GDP) are researching or experimenting with central bank digital currencies at the moment (CBDCs).

Only five nations had launched CBDCs as of July 2021. The Bahamas, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, and Grenada are all Caribbean island nations.

With its digital yuan, commonly known as the e-RMB or the Digital Currency, Electronic Payments, China has made the most progress toward becoming a fully-fledged CBDC of all major economies (DCEP).

CBDCs are digital currency managed by the government. In China’s case, the CBDC would be a digital counterpart of the yuan, the country’s currency (hence, e-RMB). CBDCs are comparable to stablecoins, which are tied to a fiat currency at a 1:1 ratio.

So the digital yuan is essentially the digital version of China’s physical currency: instead of carrying a physical banknote in your pocket, you digitally save the fiat in a mobile wallet. Each issued digital yuan token has the same unique identification as each real banknote printed by the central bank.

CBDCs, unlike cryptocurrencies, aren’t usually built on a decentralized blockchain since the central bank wants to keep control of the ledgers.

The digital yuan, which was first proposed in 2017, has been in the experimental stage since April 2020.

The People’s Bank of China (PBoC) began airdropping millions of digital yuan to citizens in October 2020 as part of a test of the technology—and to generate some excitement about it. In the summer of 2021, this is still going on.

The digital yuan is already accepted by a growing number of retailers around China, including Walmart.

According to the PBoC’s July 2021 progress report, the digital yuan was used in 70.75 million transactions by the end of June, with a total value of 34.5 billion yuan ($5 billion).

A huge roll-out during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics in February is next on the digital yuan’s plan. Foreign visitors will be included in the rollout.

Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Roger Wicker (R-MS), all supporters of Bitcoin, have asked the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee to prohibit athletes from using the digital yuan because it “may be used to surveil Chinese citizens and those visiting China on an unprecedented scale.”

Crypto Team is Being Built by PayPal in Ireland as Bitcoin Acceptance Grows

crypto

At the time when Bitcoin and Ether are gaining popularity, the new hires are required to help PayPal expand its crypto-focused business offering.

PayPal, the global payments company, is hiring for many cryptocurrency-related posts at its Ireland headquarters, highlighting the business’s ambitions in the fast-rising digital asset sector.

PayPal is looking to fill several crypto-focused posts in compliance, anti-money laundering, and business development for its Dublin and Dundalk offices, according to the Dublin-based Irish Independent, one of the country’s most popular news outlets.

PayPal established a specialized crypto and blockchain business unit earlier this year to assist its entrance into cryptocurrencies, which took place in October 2020 with the purchase of Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC) by clients in the United States.

The company expanded its offering in March of this year, allowing US clients to pay for products and services with their digital asset holdings.

PayPal said two months later that clients would be able to withdraw their cryptocurrency to third-party wallets.

PayPal’s CEO, Dan Schulman, stated in April that the company’s crypto business has exceeded all expectations in its first six months of existence.

The fast adoption of digital assets like Bitcoin and Ether was accompanied by a tremendous price increase that brought the whole cryptocurrency market to a worth of about $2.6 trillion.

Crypto markets seem to have hit a bottom and are now hiking upwards again, after a significant correction between May and July.

Schulman stated on PayPal’s quarterly earnings call last week that the company’s crypto trading business would be arriving in the UK in the near future. Upgrades to allow for faster payment processing are also in the works, according to him.

Binance may go public in the US, according to its CEO

binance

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao claimed Binance U.S. was “looking at the IPO route” at an online event on Friday.

Soon, Binance U.S. may list shares on a U.S. exchange through an initial public offering.

Despite the exchange’s ongoing regulatory issues, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, indicated that an IPO for its US-based division is in the process.

Zhao revealed the intentions while speaking at Siam Commercial Bank of Thailand’s online event REDeFiNE Tomorrow.

Zhao said the company was working with US regulators and instituting “structures” to make the IPO aspirations a reality.

“Binance U.S. is looking at the IPO route. Most regulators are familiar with a certain pattern or having headquarters, having corporate structure. But we are setting up those structures to make it easier for an IPO to happen” he said.

It’s important to understand that it is not the same as Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. Because Binance U.S. operates within the confines of the United States’ regulatory environment, it offers a different set of trading pairs and a lesser trading volume than its global version.

The US forms a task force to combat ransomware

ransomware

The White House has established a specific ransomware task force to combat cyberattacks and to focus on identifying cryptocurrency transactions engaged in them, according to sources.

According to the report, the subject was discussed yesterday during a virtual briefing with members of Congress.

The new section will evaluate and track crypto transactions that impacted firms and institutions have sent or will send to ransomware attackers as part of the planned campaign.

Such attacks, in particular, have shown to be exceedingly disruptive and damaging to even huge worldwide corporations.

The attack on Colonial Pipeline, an American gasoline pipeline company, resulted in fuel shortages across the Southeastern United States, and is one of the most high-profile recent cases.

In the end, the firm reportedly offered the DarkSide hacker organisation. “nearly $5 million” in “untraceable cryptocurrency.” Federal authorities, on the other hand, were eventually able to retrieve roughly $4.4 million in Bitcoin.

ECB exceeds incentive of the Fed on digital currency

ECB

The European Central Bank (ECB) is dipping its toe into potentially inviting waters.

President Christine Lagarde took the first step toward a digital euro on Wednesday when she announced the start of two-year research into the feasibility of producing an electronic currency. Despite the Federal Reserve’s caution, the ECB has an incentive to exceed it.

The Central Bank does not want to compete with People Bank of China, which has previously tested a digital yuan in key cities like Shenzhen and Shanghai.

However, Covid-19 has accelerated the death of physical cash: According to an ECB survey of eurozone individuals conducted last year, over nine out of ten people stated they would either definitely or probably pay less in cash as a result of the virus.

A significant question for Lagarde and her colleagues will be whether the central bank’s digital cash drains too many deposits from commercial banks, which are critical for channeling credit to families and companies.

According to a UBS survey of central bank reserve managers, the most-cited possible threat is that digital coins could disintermediate banks, possibly undermining financial stability.

In Europe, this would have extremely bad economic implications. According to Morgan Stanley economists, the region’s banks provide three-quarters of a company’s financing needs; in the United States, capital markets provide the same amount of corporate financing.
