Sindh introduces new grading system for matric, inter exams

KARACHI: The Sindh Government has introduced a new grading policy at matric and inter exams in the province.

Thus, Sindh became the first province in the country to approve the grading policy.

According to the notification issued by Secretary Universities and Boards Abbas Baloch, the new grading policy will be implemented in Sindh from 2025, under which students will get grades instead of marks and positions.

Under new grading policy formula, the first, second and third positions will be abolished.

According to the new grading policy formula set by Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCCC) -, 95 or more marks will be given A exceptional grade, 90 marks will be given excellent A, 85 marks will be given excellent A.

Thus a score of 80 would be given a very good B, 75 marks would be given a good B grade, 70 marks would be given a fair good B, 60 marks would be given an above average C.

Meanwhile,  50 marks will be given an average D grade, 40 to 49 marks will be given a below average E grade and those below 40 marks will be given an unsatisfactory F grade.

KARACHI: Sindh Government has made biometric verification has been made mandatory for registration and transfers of vehicles.

Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has made biometric verification mandatory for vehicle registration and transfer. Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that biometric verification will be done in registration and transfer of new and old vehicles.

The senior minister said that under the new policy, the change will be implemented in 3 phases, in the first phase from July 1, biometrics will be mandatory for new vehicle registration and in the second phase, biometric verification of vehicle buyers will be done from November 1.

He said that in the third phase, there will be biometric verification of the vehicle seller and the buyer. Sharjeel Memon said government is working for more transparency in the excise department and this is just the beginning.

 Schools to remain closed on August 26 in Sindh

KARACHI: The Sindh Education Department has announced that all public and private schools across the province will remain close on August 26 on connection of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain(RA).

The vacation in schools has been taken in the light of the decision of the steering committee of the provincial education department.

The Provincial Education Department has declared a holiday in all government and private schools of the province on Monday, August 26, on the occasion of  Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain.

The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) will be observed on Monday across the province with religious zeal and reverence amid high security.

The event marks the culmination of a 40-day mourning period after the martyrdom date of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions in the Battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram in 680AD.

The processions with Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah would be taken out in different cities across the province.

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz on Thursday chaired meeting with the delegation of the officers of the 7th Civil Services Training Program.

While mentioning the PMLN’s relief fund of Rs. 45 billion, Ms. Nawaz accentuated her party’s accomplishments wishing they had more to provide. She acknowledged that the assets belong to the people and should be used for their benefit.

Expressing delight over the idea of relief for Sindh, the CM emphasized the need of cooperation among the provincial leaders in serving Pakistanis.

“The relation with Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah is that of respect,” She said. “All are one in the meeting,” She further added,  Maryam Nawaz also applauded her father’s efforts in connecting the provinces through motorway  and further added that CPEC project belonged to all.

“Change does not happen overnight; however, the struggle should continue,” She said.

CM Punjab appreciated the people of merit for their sense of dignity and responsibility.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain across the country from June 26 till July 01 which may cause urban flooding in the vulnerable areas and disrupt daily routines.

The monsoon currents from Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal are likely to penetrate eastern parts of the country from June 26 and a low pressure was also lying over south of Indian Gujrat.

In Sindh, rain wind/thundershower with isolated heavyfall is expected in Mithi, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar, Badin, Thatta, Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Nausheroferoze, Khairpur, Dadu, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Larkana from June 26 to July 01 with occasional gaps.

Rain wind/thundershower with isolated heavyfall/hailstorm is expected in  Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali from June 27 to July 01 with occasional gaps.

Rain/thundershower is expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Layyah from June 26-30.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain wind/thunderstorm is expected in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar while in Kashmir, rain wind/thunderstorm is likely in Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur from June 28 to July 01 with occasional gaps. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, rain wind/thundershower with isolated heavyfall expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu and Kurram from June 28 to July 01 with occasional gaps.

In Balochistan, rain wind/thundershower is expected in Lasbella, Khuzdar, Awaran, Jhal Magsi, Kalat, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Zhob and Barkhan from June 26-28.

Duststorm/windstorm and lightning may affect daily routines, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles and solar panels etc during the period.

RO announces Senate Election schedule for 12 seats of Sindh

KARACHI: The Returning officer Sharifullah has issued a schedule for submission of nomination papers for Senate Elections on 12 seats of Sindh.

In pursuance of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s notification, the Returning officer for the Senate Elections in Sindh, Sharifullah issued a schedule for the submission of nomination papers for 12 seats including seven general, two women, two technocrats, and one non-Muslim reserved seats from Sindh.

According to public notice, the polling for Senate seats from Sindh will be held at the Sindh Assembly building on April 2, 2024.

The candidates will have to file their nomination papers with Returning Officer on 15 and 16 March, 2024.

The names of the candidates will be published on March 17 and the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be carried out on March 19.

As per the given schedule, appeals against acceptance and rejections of nomination papers will be filed on March 21 and the disposal of appeals by the Tribunal will be made on March 25 while the revised list will be published by the Tribunal on March 26, 2024.

KARACHI: Sindh Government has announced the closure of all educational institutions across the province from February 6 to 9 due to general elections.

According to the Sindh Education Department, all private and commercial schools, colleges and universities will remain closed from February 6 to 9 due to general elections in the country.

The Education Department of Sindh said that February 5 has already been announced as Kashmir Day holiday in Sindh.

The summary has been sent to Chief Minister House, notification will be issued after approval.

Earlier, the Punjab Cabinet had decided to keep all schools, colleges and universities closed from February 6 to 9 in connection with the general elections.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared as many as 50 percent of the polling stations across the country for general elections which will be held on February 8 as sensitive or highly sensitive.

The ECP had established as around 90,675 polling stations across the country out of which 46,065 polling stations have been declared as ‘sensitive’ or ‘most sensitive’ while 27,628 polling stations as sensitive and 18,437 as most sensitive,” sources in the ECP said.

In Punjab, around 6,040 highly sensitive, 12, 580 polling stations are declared sensitive while 6,524 polling stations in Sindh are highly sensitive and 6545 are declared sensitive.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 4,143 polling stations were declared as highly sensitive and 6,166 polling stations were declared as sensitive.

Likewise, in Balochistan, out of 5,028 polling stations, only 961 were declared normal as 1,730 polling stations were highly sensitive, and 2,337 polling stations were declared sensitive.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has appointed new election commissioners in Sindh and Balochistan.

The Election Commissioner of Balochistan Sharifullah has been appointed as the Election Commissioner of Sindh.

Election Commissioner Sindh Ejaz Anwar Chauhan has been appointed Election Commissioner Balochistan.

A formal notification of these exchanges has been issued.

On the other hand, extensive training for the newly appointed District Returning Officers (DROs) and Returning Officers (ROs) to facilitate the oversight of the 2024 general elections, would commence on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

The Election Commission, has finalized the training preparations. Senior Election Commission officers will conduct training sessions for district returning officers and returning officers, covering election procedures, rules, and other administrative aspects.

An ECP spokesperson stated that preparations have been completed for a one-day training session on December 16, 2023, for 142 District Returning Officers in all four provincial headquarters. This comprises 40 from Punjab, 36 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 36 from Balochistan, and 30 from Sindh.

ECP Spokesperson said a central control room has been set up to monitor the election process, and redressal of complaints and will continue to function till the election results are announced.

He added that officers in the central control room along with the monitoring team will monitor the election process. ECP Spokesperson said the central control room will remain in place from November 4 to November 6.

He further said the control room will continue to function from the start of the polling process till the tabulation of the preliminary results.

A total of 10, 7361 officers will be appointed across the country.

The preparations for the general elections are underway across the country and ECP has prepared the list of officers who will be on duty in the elections.

A list of presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, and polling staff has been prepared. The documents said a total of 10,7361 officers will be posted across the country.

54,706 presiding officers, 310,968 assistant presiding officers, and 160,445 polling staff will be appointed in Punjab. A total of 526, 123 officers will be appointed in the province.

Similarly, 20,315 presiding officers, 162,523 assistant presiding officers, and 81,262 polling staff will be appointed in Sindh, and a total of 264,100 officers will be appointed in Sindh.

Meanwhile, 16,525 presiding officers, 100,085 assistant presiding officers, and 50,045 polling staff will be appointed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while a total of 166,655 officers will be appointed.
