Pakistan’s economic reforms on right path, says finance minister

LAHORE: Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has submitted his papers for the Senate election on Saturday.

Similarly, Pervez Rasheed, Mustafa Ramday and Ahad Cheema have submitted nomination papers from Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz(PML-N) in which former senator Pervez Rasheed has submitted papers for the general seat and Mustafa Ramday has submitted the papers for the technocrat seat.

Meanwhile, Faiza Malik from Pakistan People Party (PPP) also submitted papers to participate in the Senate election.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has submitted the nomination papers of nine candidates for the general seats, three each for women and technocrats, and two for minorities in Sindh. He expressed hope that his party would win almost all the seats. He added that the PPP would release the final list of its candidates after the scrutiny of the nomination papers on Monday.

When the Chief Minister was asked about the trend of PPP winning more votes in successive Senate Elections.

To a question, the chief minister said that except for PPP no other party has filed nomination papers for the ladies, Technocrat and Minorities seats of the senate so far. “They may file as there was enough time, but we have filed,” he said and added he was hopeful that his party would clinch maximum seats.

Hussain Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz reach Lahore

LAHORE: Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz, sons of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif and brothers of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, have reached Lahore from London.

According to sources, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif welcomed his two sons on reaching Jati Umra.

It should be noted that Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz were present in London for a long time. In the past few days, requests for suspension of the arrest warrant of Nawaz Sharif’s sons Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz were filed in the Accountability Court of Islamabad in 3 references.

The lawyer of Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz said both want to come to Pakistan on March 12 and appear in the accountability court.

Later, the accountability court suspended the permanent arrest warrants of Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz.

The court suspended the perpetual arrest warrants of both in the Al-Azizia, Flagship and Avonfield references till March 14.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) summoned Member National Assembly(MNA) Shandana Gulzar Khan on March 14.

PTI Member National Assembly Shandana Gulzar had allegedly accused Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of audio leak, on which FIA has summoned Shandana Gulzar on the request of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) activist Shoaib Mirza.

Shandana Gulzar had mentioned the slain PTI worker Zille Shah in the alleged audio leak.

On the other hand, Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari said that Shandana Gulzar is a member of PTI and not of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), and an attempt was made to make Zille Shah’s death controversial.

She said that Shandana Gulzar spoke inappropriately against Maryam Nawaz and Shandana Gulzar is busy inciting people against the country.  A complaint was filed against her in FIA and now Shandana Gulzar has to give evidence in the FIA inquiry. She will not be allowed to use a woman card and give the audio if she have and it will be forensically conducted.

Nawaz Sharif directs PM to start implementing party manifesto

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif directed the party president and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to form the cabinet soon and start implementing the manifesto.

An important meeting of the party was held under the chairmanship of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in which the senior leadership of PML-N including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was present.

Important national and political issues were discussed in the informal consultation of the PML-N leadership.

According to the sources, Nawaz Sharif told Shahbaz Sharif that the Prime Minister should form the cabinet soon and start implementing the manifesto.

Sources said that Nawaz Sharif also said that Pakistan is currently facing challenges like a mountain and people have high expectations from PML-N while the reduction in inflation is also inevitable.

Sources said that in the meeting there was a consultation on including the Pakistan People’s Party in the federal cabinet and on this occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that he will request Asif Zardari again after he is elected as the president.

ISLAMABAD: The nomination papers of Shehbaz Sharif and Umar Ayub for the Leader of the House have been approved in the National Assembly.

The nomination papers of Shehbaz Sharif, the candidate of the coalition parties for the Prime Ministership, were submitted to the Secretary of the National Assembly, which was received by the Secretary General of the National Assembly, Tahir Hussain.

In comparison to Shehbaz Sharif, Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Umar Ayub also submitted papers.

According to the National Assembly Secretariat, 8 nomination papers were submitted for Shehbaz Sharif and 4 for Umar Ayub, which were approved after scrutiny.

Sunni Ittehad Council’s objection to Shahbaz Sharif’s nomination papers was rejected.

It should be noted that 169 votes are required for the Prime Ministership in the 336-member House and the coalition parties have the support of 209 members.

Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has the support of the People’s Party, Balochistan Awami Party, MQM Pakistan, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party while Umar Ayub is the prime ministerial candidate from Sunni Ittehad Council and their number of members in the House is 91.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq elected as Speaker National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the joint candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) and  People People’s Party(PPP), was once again elected Speaker of the National Assembly.

The session for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly is being chaired by outgoing Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf.

After completing the process, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was elected Speaker by getting 199 votes while Malik Muhammad Amir Dogar, candidate of Sunni Ittehad Council, got 91 votes.

Later, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf administered the oath as the 23rd Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq.

After being elected Speaker Ayaz Sadiq went to the seat of Malik Amir Dogar and shook hands with him, Ayaz Sadiq also shook hands with Hamid Raza and Umar Ayub Khan.

After the election of the speaker, there will be voting in the National Assembly for the election of the deputy speaker. For the deputy speaker, the candidates of PML-N and PPP are Ghulam Mustafa Shah, while Junaid Akbar is the candidate from the Sunni Ittehad Council.

Earlier, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf told the members of the House about the procedure for electing the Speaker, after which Barrister Gohar and Umar Ayub of the Sunni Ittehad Council expressed their views on the point of order and said that until the members of the House the number is not complete how the election can be conducted.

MANSEHRA: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) backed candidate Gustasap Khan defeated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif from NA-15 Mansehra.

The Returning Officer(RO) has issued Form 49 for National Assembly Constituency NA-15.

In Form 49 issued by the returning officers, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif was defeated by PTI-backed candidate Gustasap Khan.

Gustasap Khan got 105,259 votes and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was second with 80,413 votes.

It should be noted that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had challenged the election result of National Assembly Constituency NA-15 Mansehra when his plea was also rejected which he had requested re-election in the constituency.

ECP rejects Nawaz Sharif’s plea for re-election in NA-15 Mansehra

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected the plea of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif request for re-election in NA-15 Mansehra.

The ECP had reserved its decision yesterday on the request of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding the re-election on NA-15 Mansehra, which was announced on Wednesday.

The ECP rejected the petition of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in the election excuse case and directed him to approach the Election Tribunal.

The Election Commission has ordered the Returning Officer to compile the final result of the constituency within three days.

It should be noted that Nawaz Sharif was defeated by an independent candidate backed by Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) from NA-15 Mansehra in the general elections.

PTI-backed independent candidate Gustasub Khan got 105,249 votes and Nawaz Sharif got 80,382 votes.

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has formed a four-member committee for persuading different political parties to vote for the party’s presidential candidate, Asif Ali Zardari.

According to the notification issued here by the Chairman’s Secretariat by his Political Secretary Jameel Soomro, the committee is comprised of senior leaders including Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Parvez Sharaf, Syed Khursheed Shah, and Syed Naveed Qamar.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier during the last week, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PPP had announced Asif Ali Zardari as a joint candidate for the presidential elections.

Addressing a joint press conference at Zardari House in Islamabad, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif will once again be the country’s prime minister.

Bilawal Bhutto also said that the PML-N would support his father Asif Ali Zardari for the president’s slot. “Asif Zardari would be our joint candidate for president,” he said, adding that they all want to work according to the hopes of the people.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) called a meeting of the parliamentary party in the National Assembly on February 28(tomorrow).

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reserved its decision on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif’s request for re-election in NA-15 Mansehra.

In the ECP, a hearing was held on the request of  PML-N  leader Nawaz Sharif regarding National Assembly Constituency NA-15 Mansehra, in which former prime minister’s lawyer Jahangir Jadoon gave arguments in the commission while Captain(Retd) Safdar was also present on the occasion.

During the hearing, Jahangir Jadoon told the commission that PML-N had requested the RO report on February 15 and we were presented with the RO report of 650 pages and the case will now be on the record of the RO report.

Jahangir Jadoon said that according to the report of the RO, petitioner Nawaz Sharif got more than 82,000 votes and the opposing candidate got more than 105,000 votes while the rejected votes were 9082. There were a total of 550 polling stations. The results of 123 polling stations were not received, and Form 45 was not given to us by the presiding officer.

During the hearing, Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Jahangir Jadoon requested re-election in NA-15 Mansehra

The lawyer pleaded that the result has been affected due to record tampering on NA-15, so the election of NA-15 should be declared null and void.

Maryam Nawaz elected as first woman chief minister of Punjab

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz was elected as the first woman chief minister of Punjab after getting 220 votes while candidate of Sunni Ittehad Council Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan bagged zero votes.

The PA session started almost 40 minutes behind its scheduled time of 11:00 am with PA Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan in the chair.

The session started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran followed by Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (Peace Be Upon Him).

On completion of the voting and counting process, PA Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan announced the results and declared Maryam Nawaz as leader of the house.

The speaker also congratulated Maryam Nawaz for becoming the Punjab chief minister.

The Sunni Ittehad Council completely boycotted the Punjab Assembly session and did not take part in the proceedings.

It should be noted that in the 327-member house of the Punjab Assembly, the Muslim League-N has the support of 224 members, while the number required to become the chief minister is 186.

On the other hand, the Sunni Ittehad Council has the support of 103 members.

LAHORE: The first meeting of the Punjab Parliamentary Party of the party was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz nominated by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

A parliamentary party meeting was held in Jati Umrah under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz, in which the newly elected members of the Punjab Assembly participated.

According to the sources, independent members including PML-N members also participated in the meeting while members nominated for reserved seats were also included in the meeting. A total of 218 members participated in the meeting.

In the parliamentary party meeting, 137 successful candidates of PML-N, 58 women nominated for reserved seats and more than 22 independent members who joined PML-N participated in the meeting.
Maryam Nawaz also organized a lunch for the candidates.

Speaking on this occasion, Maryam Nawaz said that every constituency, every district, every union council, every division should be a model. She said resources will be distributed equally in the fields of health, education, infrastructure, law and order, agriculture, and IT.
