Pakistan’s IT workforce capable of competing at global market: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan’s IT talented workforce has the capability to compete at the global market while all necessary facilities were being provided to IT companies to achieve the target of $25 billion in IT exports.

The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with a four-member delegation led by Jerome Kapelus, CEO of the renowned American multinational IT company, Afiniti that called on him.

The prime minister welcomed Afiniti’s interest in further investment in Pakistan’s IT sector and suggested to Afiniti Pakistan to establish a world-class call center in the country for national and international clients.

He further informed that he was personally overseeing programmes to equip the country’s talented youth with IT, AI, and other advanced technical skills.

The delegation appreciated the expertise of Pakistani IT professionals and their dedication to the sector’s development.

Jerome Kapelus said that Pakistan’s IT sector was highly suitable for investment and business and currently, more than 1,000 highly skilled and capable Pakistani professionals were working at Afiniti Pakistan.

He further said that Pakistani youth possessed immense potential to contribute to the growth of the IT sector, adding Afiniti’s success in the region was due to Pakistan’s professional and well-trained workforce.

ISLAMABAD:  Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the need to devise a roadmap to work towards the enhancement of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Uzbekistan to USD 2 billion, as had been agreed between the leadership of both countries.

The prime minister, in a meeting with Ambassador of Uzbekistan Alisher Tukhtaev, who paid a courtesy call on him here, particularly highlighted Pakistan’s interest in enhancing cooperation with Uzbekistan in mining and minerals, railways, including the Trans Afghan Railways project, Special Economic Zones, banking, tourism, culture and renewable energy.

He conveyed his warm greetings, through the ambassador, to President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and expressed his deepest gratitude for the warmth and hospitality extended to him and his delegation during their recent visit to Tashkent last month.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his complete satisfaction at the excellent progress made between the two countries during his visit, which included the formation of a High Level Strategic Cooperation Council, as well as the signing of a number of important agreements and MOUs in various fields.

He told the envoy that upon his return from Tashkent, he had tasked the ministers of relevant areas to ensure prompt follow-up on the decisions taken by the two leaders.

The ambassador told the prime minister that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was fully committed to strengthening Uzbekistan’s ties with Pakistan and to transform the excellent political relations between the two countries into mutually beneficial economic ties.

PM approves plan for youth training on market demand

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired the review meeting on the National Youth Employment Plan and approved the plan to provide youth with training programs according to market and industry skills and demand.

The meeting was briefed on the action plan to provide training and employment opportunities through various institutions in the next 4 years, whereas the Prime Minister had decided to personally chair the monthly review meeting and would personally monitor the implementation of the plan.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that the talented youth of Pakistan were the most valuable asset of the country, whereas the government was empowering and employing the youth by providing them with vocational training and necessary skills.

The prime minister added that the government was taking steps to promote the export of manpower by providing international quality training to Pakistani youth.

During the review meeting, the prime minister had directed to maintain continuous liaison with local industries for training youth in various sectors and to meticulously consider the demand of international organizations for manpower.

The Prime Minister has also directed to establish comprehensive database regarding the skills required in local industries.

The meeting was informed that in the next 4 years, 2.4 million to 6 million youth annually would be asssited to gain employment opportunities by providing them vocational training and skills.

The meeting was informed that the market, industries and international manpower consumption were being kept in mind to provide skills and vocational training to the youth.

PM thanks Trump for recognising Pakistan’s counterterrorism role

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked US President Donald Trump for acknowledging and appreciating Pakistan’s role and support in the counter-terrorism efforts across the region.

The acknowledgment by US President Trump came in the context of Pakistan security forces’ recent apprehension of ISKP’s top tier operational commander and Afghan national Shareefullah.

The wanted terrorist was apprehended in a successful operation conducted in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region, the prime minister wrote on his X timeline.

President Trump, in his first address to Congress since returning to the White House for a second term, revealed that the person responsible for killing 13 US service members during the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 had been arrested with the help of Pakistan and was now on his way to the United States to face justice.

“Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity…I want to thank especially the government of Pakistan for helping arrest this monster,” Trump added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said, “As is well-known, Pakistan has always played a critical role in counter terrorism efforts aimed at denying safe havens to terrorists and militant groups the space to operate against any other country.”

He said that Pakistan remained steadfast in its resolve and unwavering commitment to combating terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, having rendered great sacrifices, including the lives of over 80,000 of its brave soldiers and citizens in this effort.

PM Shehbaz forms committee for early realization of MoU with Azerbaijan

ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a committee to ensure the early realisation of the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements signed with Azerbaijan during his recent visit to the country.

The prime minister, chairing a meeting to review the implementation of accords, directed the authorities concerned to present an action plan to take the Pakistan-Azerbaijan current trade volume to $2 billion.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar will head the newly-formed committee that will prepare agreements in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

The prime minister also directed to complete all preparations on a priority basis ahead of the expected visit of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Pakistan next month.

He also instructed the appointment of trade officers in Azerbaijan and other countries with a significant potential for trade with Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighting the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, said that the government was taking priority measures to fully capitalize on the vast trade and investment potential between Pakistan and Central Asian states.
