Uniper has formally requested a rescue package from Berlin, a move that would likely result in the government holding a significant stake of the utility-driven to the edge of insolvency by a reduction in Russian gas imports.

The largest purchaser of Russian gas in Europe has been losing tens of millions of euros per day as it attempts to fill the void with more expensive gas purchased on the open market without being able to pass on the additional cost to customers.

Uniper announced on Friday that it has “filed a request to the German government for stability measures” via which it would seek to offset a portion of its increased expenses by imposing a temporary tax on gas purchasers.

OGRA Increases Gas Prices By Almost Rs40 For Sindh, Balochistan Consumers

On Thursday, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has hiked up gas prices by almost Rs40 per MMBtu for Sindh, Balochistan consumers.

According to the details, OGRA in its decision today has agreed upon the SSGC request to hike in utility prices. The new revised price is Rs778.59 per MMBtu.

Rs39.89, in the total tariff, has been increased by OGRA that will be applicable after the government issues the notification to this effect.

It is pertinent to mention here that once the decision on gas price hike is approved, which is expected tomorrow, the same will be applicable to the consumers of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.

Earlier on 20th January, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) had announced a reduction in the supply of gas from its Naimat basal field.

The reduction had increased the misery of Karachi residents who are already facing sporadic outages and low gas pressure since winter started.

SSGC said supply in their system has observed a reduction. “There is a technical fault at the Naimat Basal Gas Field,” the company said in a statement.

Karachi would witness a shortfall of 100 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) because of the fault.

CNG stations to remain closed for three more days across Sindh

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Tuesday has announced the closure of all CNG stations across Sindh for three more days from tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7 am.

The CNG as well as all the RLNG stations across Sindh will remain closed for 72 hours.

According to the details, the gas stations will reopen on Saturday, according to developments now, unless the unavailability of gas prolongs as seen in the past week.

Earlier on Jan 24th, the SSGC had announced that all the compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in Sindh would remain close three days from Monday (January 25).

According to a notification issued by the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), the gas filling stations would remain shut for 72 hours from 8 am Monday till 8 am on Thursday (January 28) across the province.

A spokesperson of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) had said that the CNG stations would remain open for 24 hours from 8:00 am on Sunday till 8:00 am on Monday.

Earlier on January 23, the government had announced to reopen the CNG stations in Punjab and Potohar region from Sunday.
