ECP issues notification of unopposed victory of Murtaza Wahab

KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a notification of the unopposed victory of Murtaza Wahab.

Murtaza Wahab has been elected unopposed as chairman of Union Council (UC) 8 of  Ibrahim Hyderi Town and notification of his success has also been issued.

The returning officer issued the success notification for Murtaza Wahab.

Under the Sindh Local Government Act, the candidate will have to contest the union council election in 6 months if he becomes the mayor directly.

Even in the case of becoming the chairman of the district council, the candidate will have to contest the union council election in six months.

More than 1million officers will be deputed for election duty: ECP

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has prepared the list of officers who will perform duty in the upcoming general elections.

A total of 10, 7361 officers will be appointed across the country.

The preparations for the general elections are underway across the country and ECP has prepared the list of officers who will be on duty in the elections.

A list of presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, and polling staff has been prepared. The documents said a total of 10,7361 officers will be posted across the country.

54,706 presiding officers, 310,968 assistant presiding officers, and 160,445 polling staff will be appointed in Punjab. A total of 526, 123 officers will be appointed in the province.

Similarly, 20,315 presiding officers, 162,523 assistant presiding officers, and 81,262 polling staff will be appointed in Sindh, and a total of 264,100 officers will be appointed in Sindh.

Meanwhile, 16,525 presiding officers, 100,085 assistant presiding officers, and 50,045 polling staff will be appointed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while a total of 166,655 officers will be appointed.

ECP compiles new list of election symbols

ISLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has compiled a new list of election symbols in connection with the preparations for the general elections.

The Election Commission has allotted 144 election symbols to registered political parties, while 182 symbols have been allotted to independent candidates. The bat symbol for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is also included in the list.

The compiled electoral rolls were sent to the District Election Commissioners. The Election Commission has issued a directive to provide a level playing field to all political parties.

Commission had announced the freezing of all electoral rolls across the country on October 25. After October 25, voter registration and transfer will not be possible. The data of more than 800,000 people have been obtained from National Database & Registration Authority(NADRA) who are undergoing data entry to make them voters.

The spokesperson of ECP said that all these people will be able to vote in the upcoming general elections, only 10 days are left for registration of vote, transfer and data correction,  change and data correction can be done by October 25.

The Election Commission had directed to ensure the registration of votes of themselves and their families.

It should be remembered that the Election Commission had decided to unfreeze the voter lists on September 28 in preparation for the general elections. The voter lists were frozen on July 20, but later the Election Commission said that the voter lists would remain unfrozen till October 25, 2023, so that all eligible people can register their vote, cast votes, transfer and issue ID cards by October 25. The data may be corrected accordingly.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a bailable arrest warrant against former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Chaudhary Fawad Hussain in the contempt case.

The four-member bench headed ECP Member Nisar Durrani also directed the Inspector General of Police Islamabad to produce Fawad on October 24 for his indictment.

The ECP bench also issued production orders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman, who is currently imprisoned at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, for indictment in the same case on October 24.

Meanwhile, a five-member bench headed by the Chief Election Commissioner will hear a petition seeking removal of Imran Khan as PTI chairman following his conviction in the Toshakhana case, on October 26.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) has issued a production order for former Prime Minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) imprisoned in Adiala Jail.

Production orders were issued ordering the PTI chairman to be produced for using unparliamentary language against Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commission.

According to the Election Commission, a charge sheet will be filed against Chairman PTI and he should be produced on October 24. After the appearance, an order was also issued to send the former prime minister back to jail.

The Election Commission issued instructions to the concerned authorities and ordered them to inform the Superintendent of Adiala Jail. The Election Commission said that the Jail Superintendent should take necessary steps for their appearance.

Meanwhile, IG Islamabad and Punjab directed to ensure security arrangements keeping in view the appearance.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared applications against caretaker ministers and advisers as maintainable.

The ECP has issued notices to Fawad Hasan Fawad, Ahad Cheema, and Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Tauqeer Shah while declaring the petitions against the caretaker federal ministers and advisers admissible.

The Election Commission has announced the reserved decision on the application related to the removal of the federal ministers and advisers of the prime minister in the caretaker government.

The Election Commission declared the applications against the caretaker federal ministers and advisers admissible. The ECP issued notices to Fawad Hasan Fawad, Ahad Cheema, and Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Tauqeer Shah.

The Election Commission scheduled the hearing on October 26. The application was filed by Advocate Azizuddin Kakakhel in the Election Commission.

In the application, the caretaker federal minister Fawad Hasan Fawad, and adviser Ahad Cheema requested to be removed and stated that Tauqeer Shah remained secretary of the former prime minister.

According to Article 218, the caretaker setup should be neutral. Biased ministers and advisers in the caretaker government should be removed from office.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)  held a consultation meeting with the political parties regarding the code of conduct during which PTI demanded a level playing field for the general elections.

Sources said that PTI demanded permission to hold rallies, election campaigns place banners, and conduct free election campaigns.

Sources said that PTI also demanded to hold elections in 90 days as per the constitution.

The Chief Election Commissioner instructed PTI that today’s meeting was called for consultation on the code of conduct and sought PTI suggestions regarding the code of conduct.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that he could meet the PTI leaders on other issues later. The Election Commission ensures transparent elections.

Secretary Election Commission Umar Hameed Khan wrote a letter to Chief Secretary Sindh and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh for violating the guidelines of the Election Commission.

The letter said that it has come to the notice of the Election Commission that former provincial ministers and political appointees are using protocol, security, and other privileges. The ECP had directed to take back official residences and official vehicles.

The letter directed that the protocol, security, and privileges of former cabinet members be withdrawn immediately.

In his statement, senior PPP leader Raza Rabbani said that the sale of shares is a long-term economic decision, for which the caretaker government has no mandate.

He demanded that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should take notice of this matter.

Raza Rabbani said that the Election Commission is violating the constitution by not holding the election within 90 days, the delay in announcing the election date is creating political instability and economic uncertainty.

He said that the Election Commission no longer has an excuse for constituencies and ECP should immediately announce the date of the elections.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has approved the code of conduct for international observers in the upcoming general elections.

A meeting was held under the supervision of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. Secretary Election Commission, members, and other senior officers participated.

In the meeting, it was decided to write a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MoFA) for international observers to observe the election. International observers will be invited to observe the transparency of the election.

The cases of foreign observers will be processed promptly. The Commission has directed to convene a meeting on October 16 under the chairmanship of the Secretary Election Commission.

Senior officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Interior, and other institutions will participate in the meeting and the future course of action will be decided regarding international observers.

The Election Commission approved the Code of Conduct for International Observers.

The spokesman says that the Election Commission has also reviewed the arrangements for the upcoming general elections and all matters related to the election should be completed as per the schedule.

ISLAMBAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed chief secretaries of four provinces to start preparations for upcoming general elections.

The ECP has sent an emergency letter to the chief secretaries of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.

It has been said by the Election Commission that under Article 220 of the Constitution, all executives are obliged to assist the Election Commission. The Chief Secretaries should assist the ECP in the preparation of elections.

The Election Commission has said that the Chief Secretaries should direct the concerned Deputy Commissioners to contact the District Election Commission immediately.

It should be noted that the Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) has announced to hold general elections in the last week of January 2024.

According to the announcement, the general elections will be held in the last week of January 54 days after the final list, there will be a 54-day election program after the final list.

It should be noted that the demand of the caretaker government and the Election Commission from the political parties to conduct early and transparent general elections in the country was getting stronger.
