Punjab education department finalizes strict SOPs for schools reopening

School Education Department in Punjab has finalized Coronavirus SOPs regarding the reopening of schools across the province following prevention of the virus spread among students and staff members.

Under the SOPs, the temperature of every student and staff member will be checked before allowing them to enter the school premises.

Schools will be responsible for ensuring the availability of hand sanitizers for all students and staff members.

All sorts of functions, ceremonies, and breaks will be prohibited under the SOPs as well.

Moreover, only 20 students will be permitted to sit in one classroom while only 2 students will be allowed to share a desk.

As per the SOPs, schools that are unable to ensure the previously mentioned SOP will be required to operate in two shifts.

Earlier on July 9, Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood had announced the reopening of all educational institutions in Pakistan under strict precautionary measures from 15 September.

Governor Punjab called on FM Qureshi, discuss Coronavirus, Kashmir issue

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar called on Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday and discussed the ongoing Coronavirus situation, Kashmir issue, political situation and other key matters.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the spread of COVID-19 was reduced by taking timely measures. The foreign minister stressed that implementation over precautionary measures must be ensured.

He said Pakistan is fighting the case of Kashmir before the international community under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The foreign minister praised the efforts of the Punjab governor when he apprised him of the contacts he made with the European and British parliamentarians to highlight the Kashmir issue.

FM Qureshi said that India is moving away from other countries of the region, being exposed before the world and facing defeat on every platform. Pakistan will strongly stand by Kashmiri brothers and sisters, he affirmed.

Chaudhry Sarwar said India is committing worst state terrorism in occupied Kashmir. I am in contact with the European and British parliamentarians over the matter, he said.

Sarwar further added that vice-president of the European Parliament Fabio Massimo Castaldo supports Pakistan’s stance over Kashmir.

He also briefed the foreign minister about proposed special security arrangements to be made in Punjab on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha following deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

COVID-19 patients on ventilators reduced by 28%: Asad Umar

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said that there were 2,969 COVID-19 patients in Pakistan who needed oxygen and 546 who were on ventilators on June 20.

Posting a tweet on Saturday, the federal minister said the numbers have decreased by the grace of Almighty as 1,762 patients needed oxygen and 394 were on ventilators yesterday which means reduction by 28 percent.

He said, “The success of smart lockdown, administrative actions concerning standard operating procedures (SOPs) and most important of all, better conduct by people is prominent.”

“The significant thing here is that stopping the spread of coronavirus is in our collective control. If we continue to take precautions, our health as well as employments will remain protected. Otherwise, God forbid, we may also face situations like America, Brazil and India.”

Moreover, Asad Umar will be presiding over an important meeting to discuss Karachi’s electricity woes on Saturday (today) at the Sindh Governor House.

Members of National Assembly, Sindh Assembly and Karachi Electric (KE) representatives will also attend the meeting.

The industrialists and SSGC’s representatives are also invited to attend the meeting.

However, the meeting has been called on on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
