At just 20 years old, he said, “I learned so much in that year about what I wasn’t. But there’s not a more exciting 90 minutes you could have, whether you are any good or not.” Despite the challenges, Downey appreciated the opportunity to be part of the iconic sketch show.

Downey credits his friend, Anthony Michael Hall, for getting him the audition. “Michael Hall said to me, ‘I’m gonna go do SNL. I’m gonna get you an audition and I bet you’re gonna get yourself on the show too,'” Downey recalled. Hall, who was the youngest cast member at just 17, also reflects on the difficulties of his time on the show, acknowledging the challenges the writers faced in creating material for someone so young: “For a lot of the writers to figure out how to write for this kid — I think it was a big challenge.”

The 11th season of SNL is often considered one of its weakest, leading to several cast changes the following year.

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office thanked Jan Egeland, Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council for drawing attention to the humanitarian predicament of Afghanistan.

In a statement, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said, “It would have been more appropriate had the world not abandoned the Afghan people after the war and if conducive socioeconomic conditions had been created inside the country for the Afghan people to prosper.”

“For forty years, Pakistan has generously hosted over four million Afghan refugees. Those sent back were residing illegally without any documentation or proof of residence. Progress on the cases of thousands of Afghan nationals who were promised resettlement in western countries remains painfully slow,” he added.

He said, “UN Humanitarian aid to Afghanistan remains critically underfunded with only 37.5% of the required funds secured last year. Pakistan and Afghanistan are tied together by historical, religious and cultural links that transcend time.”

Pre-inaugural rally: Trump vows to give extraordinary first 100 days in American history

Trump

On the eve of his pre-inaugural rally, President-elect Donald Trump gathered thousands of his supporters at Washington’s Capital One Arena. In an atmosphere reminiscent of his past rallies, Trump, flanked by key allies and family members, celebrated his electoral victory and laid out his plans for his first days in office.

Trump, with his characteristic optimism, told the crowd, “The American people have given us their trust, and in return, we’re going to give them the best first day, the biggest first week, and the most extraordinary first 100 days of any presidency in American history.” The excitement was palpable as supporters cheered and donned red MAGA hats and Trump-themed apparel, creating an electric atmosphere.

The rally also offered a glimpse into Trump’s executive agenda. A source familiar with the planning confirmed that Trump is preparing to sign over 200 executive actions on his first day, covering a wide range of issues. These are expected to include tough measures on border security and mass deportations, the rollbacks of government diversity initiatives, boosting oil and gas production, and granting pardons to some individuals involved in the January 6th U.S. Capitol attack. Trump also pledged to repeal “every radical and foolish executive order of the Biden administration” within hours of assuming the presidency, signaling a swift reversal of many policies from his predecessor.

Trump’s rhetoric remained familiar, focused on the themes of border security and crime, issues that were central to his campaign. During the rally, he refrained from the typical name-calling of previous events, a potential preview of the tone he might strike in his inaugural address. The rally, in fact, was an unusual spectacle, as presidential transitions are traditionally marked by more subdued, bipartisan language. However, Trump’s event was a clear continuation of his campaign ethos.

The event featured familiar faces who have been part of Trump’s political orbit, including UFC CEO Dana White, senior aide Stephen Miller, and Trump’s sons, Donald Jr. and Eric. Together, they echoed Trump’s central message of fulfilling his promises to the American people. “We’re all going to be sworn in together. That’s the way I look at it,” Trump said, prompting a roar of approval from the crowd.

For Trump, the rally was not only a moment to reflect on his victory but also a way to thank his supporters. “As the campaign wound down, Trump lamented that his rallies were going away,” offering the event as a nostalgic thank-you for the enthusiastic crowds that had supported him through his journey.

With his first day in office fast approaching, Trump’s message to the crowd was clear: the coming days will be full of action and bold moves to fulfill his promises to the American people. His rally marked the start of what he has called “the most extraordinary first 100 days” in presidential history.
