Army, Rangers assistance to be sought for general elections: CEC

ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) Raja Sikandar Sultan said that the assistance of the Pakistan Army and Rangers will be sought for smooth holding of upcoming general elections.

CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja announced while chairing a high-level session to review preparations regarding the upcoming general elections.

The Election Commission said that 26,783,254 registered voters will exercise their right to vote in Sindh. Raja Sikandar Sultan has said that the assistance of the Army and Rangers will also be taken in the elections.

The Election Commission said that the chief secretary of Sindh has assured the implementation of all the orders.

Elections will be held on 61 seats of the National Assembly and 130 seats of the Provincial Assembly in Sindh. More than 19,236 polling stations will be built in Sindh.

The Election Commission said that 4,430 polling stations in Sindh are highly sensitive while 8,080  stations have been declared sensitive.

Chief Secretary Sindh said that the Sindh government will provide full support to the Election Commission for the elections. The ECP is implementing 100% transfer posting under the orders.

Chief Secretary Sindh further said that the availability of all the facilities at the polling stations will be ensured.

IG Sindh said that a security plan has been prepared by the Sindh Police while 110,334 police personnel will perform duties in the general elections.

RAWALPINDI: The funeral prayer of Shaheed Sepoy Waris Khan, who embraced martyrdom in a fierce exchange of fire with terrorists in Miran Shah area of North Waziristan on Monday was held with full military honors in his native town Karak District.

A large number of army officers, soldiers, relatives and local people participated in the funeral prayer of the martyr, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said.

Sepoy Waris Khan left behind a widow and two sons besides parents to mourn. “The determination and morale of the soldiers of the Pakistan Army cannot be shaken by the cowardly acts of the terrorists. The war against terrorism will continue until the end of the last terrorist,” the ISPR said.

KARACHI: A policeman was killed in firing by an unknown person in a house in a private housing society of New Karachi.

According to the police, 40-years-old Muhammad Qasim was killed by firing at his house in Ayub Goth Osmania Society. Qasim was an officer of Security Zone-II in Sindh Police and was the father of five daughters.

The deceased’s brother said that Mohammad Qasim was the gunman of former IG Balochistan Mir Zubair who had moved to Islamabad after retirement and took Mohammad Qasim along with him.

According to the deceased’s brother, Qasim had come to Karachi to meet his mother and brothers. At the time of the incident, he was sleeping in the drawing room of the house, when someone shot from outside the window of the drawing room and killed Qasim.

RAWALPINDI: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has busted a drug trafficking gang operating across the country through online apps.

The ANF arrested eleven members of a group involved in drug trafficking through Internet.

ANF ​​spokesman said that 33 parcels of drugs have been recovered from the arrested suspects. The ANF teams recovered 53 kg  of hashish, 1.6kg ice and 1.2kg  of opium .

ANF ​​said that the network of the group involved in drug trafficking through online apps is spread across all four provinces.

However, further investigation into drug trafficking through online apps is being conducted.
