KU, IBP signs MoU to provide professional training to students

KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) and the Institute of Bankers Pakistan inked a memorandum of understanding to provide professional qualifications and necessary technical training to the students with a pathway to the Junior Associate of the IBP.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at the KU Vice Chancellor Secretariat. The KU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and the Chief Executive IBP Riaz Nazarali Chunara inked the MoU documents.

On this occasion, Chief Executive IBP Riaz Chunara informed the participants that IBP provides technical training services for the banking industry and added that this MoU is aimed at pursuing a mutually beneficial collaboration in setting career trajectories for the KU students in the banking sector through JAIBP program.

He shared that JAIBP is the first level of professional qualification for bankers aimed at empowering students and aspiring bankers with practical knowledge of the banking industry, its front-end and back-end functions, associated regulations, global best practices, and industry norms.

According to him, as per this MoU, alumni and fresh students of the University of Karachi would be able to register for the JAIBP program, and other certification programs being run by the IBP.

Meanwhile, the KU VC Prof Dr Khaild Iraqi said that this is our responsibility to give a better future to our generations, and we have to work very hard to achieve it. He hoped that with the training and courses offered by the IBP, our students would be able to perform well in the banking sector.

Caretaker CM orders targeted operation against street criminals

KARACHI: Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar has issued instructions to Karachi Police to start targeted operations against street criminals.

A meeting of the Sindh Apex Committee was held under the chairmanship of the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, during which the Karachi Police Chief and Additional IG briefed the meeting on street crime.

According to the caretaker chief minister Sindh’s spokesperson, the Karachi police chief while briefing the apex committee meeting said that 61,098 cases of street crime were reported in the city this year, the highest number of 17,570 cases were reported in the district east.

The Karachi Police Chief told the meeting that 329 accused were arrested in murder cases and 62 accused in kidnapping for ransom cases in the city while there were a total of 100 cases of extortion in which 86 accused were arrested.

Spokesman Chief Minister of Sindh said that according to the Karachi Police Chief, drug mafia and illegal immigrants are involved in the incidents of street crime, while the police are deployed on protests and other duties more than crime prevention.

During the meeting, Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Maqbool Baqar directed to start of an operation against street criminals in Katchi Abadis and ordered the Karachi Police Chief to clean the entire city of street crime and improve the condition of the police stations.

Sindh Chief Minister said that, sadly, Gutka and other narcotic substances are found in Karachi city, and the police should take immediate and strict action on it.

ANF arrests seven drug paddlers in four different raids

RAWALPINDI: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested seven drug paddlers and recovered 56 kilogram drugs from their possession in four different raids.

Spokesman said ANF foiled a drug smuggling bid through a luxury vehicle and recovered 30 kg heroin recovered from a Toyota Land Cruiser intercepted near Motorway Toll Plaza Islamabad.

During the operation, five 30-bore pistols with magazines were also recovered. Two accused residents of Khyber and Peshawar were arrested on the spot.

In another operation, 14.4 kg hashish was recovered from a vehicle near Qamar Deen Park Lahore while two accused were arrested. On the plantation of the arrested person, two other accused including a woman were also arrested.

In the third operation, 9.6 kg of hashish was recovered from the possession of a bike rider.

Similarly, an Afghan resident was arrested during a raid on a house near Yaro Railway Track in Quetta. 2 kg of Ice drug 190 litres of hydrochloric acid and different types of prohibited powder were recovered from the house which was being used to store drugs.

President calls for enhanced cooperation with KSA

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have reiterated their desire to further improve bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, economy and defence.

This was discussed at a meeting between the visiting Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, who along with the members of his delegation, called on President Dr Arif Alvi, at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Welcoming the delegation, the President said Pakistan highly valued its relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) which had always supported Pakistan at difficult times. He stated that both brotherly countries enjoyed excellent relations in various fields and had commonality of views on various regional and international issues. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral economic and financial ties with the Kingdom for the mutual benefit of two brotherly countries.

The President highlighted that Pakistan was looking for investment as the country had huge potential for the investment in the agriculture and IT sectors. He apprised the delegation that Pakistan had constituted a Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to serve as one window platform to fast-track decision making and facilitate Foreign Direct Investment in four key areas: Information Technology, Agriculture, Energy and Mining in the country, especially from the KSA.

Expressing satisfaction at the existing level of cooperation, the President said that the high-level exchanges of military leadership of two countries would further boost defence cooperation. He informed that he was highly impressed by the vision of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman that led to the normalisation of relations between the Kingdom and Iran and would also bring peace and prosperity to the region.

He appreciated the role played by the KSA in the Organization of the Islamic Countries for important Muslim causes, especially for Palestine, Kashmir and Afghanistan. He deeply thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for providing financial support to Pakistan to deal with its economic challenges. He asked General Fayyadh bin Hamed to convey his warm regards to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.
