IHC gave inquiry orders over the elevator closure issue

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) to conduct an inquiry into the malfunctioning of an elevator in which senior lawyer Latif Khosa got trapped.

The Registrar IHC ordered the DG PPWD to conduct an inquiry into the elevator malfunction and submit a report within two days. Registrar instructed that all lifts of the High Court Building should be inspected and repaired immediately if required.

The registrar ordered that PWD-trained and skilled lift operators should be posted for the High Court Building to avoid any untoward incident in the future.

In the letter written by the Registrar to the DG PWD, it was stated that on August 25, the elevator of the Judges Block broke down and got stuck on the second floor. Senior Lawyer Latif Khosa, other lawyers, and some media representatives were also stuck in the lift.

When the technical staff of PWD was called for checking the lift was showing an overloading error. The technical staff failed to remove the error and evacuate the people trapped in the lift despite several attempts.

Capital Development Authority(CDA)rescue personnel later broke the lift door and pulled out the trapped people.

KARACHI: Pakistan Theatre Festival 2023 will begin from September 8 at the Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP) Karachi.

The festival will run for a whole month in which there will be 45 Shows in 30 days, there are seven international theatre groups will be participating and 27 different theatre groups from all around Pakistan will also be part of festival.

These views were expressed by President ACP Muhammad Ahmed Shah in a press Conference held at ACP Karachi Regarding the “Pakistan Theatre Festival 2023”.  Well-known director and actors Munawar Saeed and Sajid Hassan are also present in on this occasion.

President ACP Muhammad Ahmad Shah said that the Arts Council of Pakistan has provided a platform where theater groups and artists from Pakistan and around the world will participate. This will be the biggest theater festival in Pakistan, we have theatre groups coming from seven countries. The Festival will be in Urdu, English, Sindhi, Punjabi and Persian languages.

He said that the media has a strong role in showing the positive face of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi worldwide, thanks to the media for promoting such a big brand as the Aalmi Urdu Conference, Pakistan Literature Festival, and Youth Festival. He said theater festivals held across Sindh including Karachi, now internationally. Pakistani artists will be named on the surface. He said that we are introducing a new brand in the name of “Pakistan Theater Festival”, an artist came to us from America, she went back and told the people about the positive image of Pakistan.

Seasoned Actor Munawar Saeed said that the Pakistan Theater Festival was a great success for Ahmed Shah and Sajid Hasan.

Actor Sajid Hasan said that Ahmed Shah’s journey is a history, we are not worried on his part that the work is going well.

LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has claimed that the foreign intelligence agency was involved in the Jaranwala tragedy.

Talking to the media in Lahore, IG Punjab said that the law has been set in motion against the Jaranwala tragedy. He said affected Christian families are being helped and the reconstruction of the churches is also going on. He said Muslims have given the mosque to the Christian community for worship. He said the Jaranwala incident was planned to create a rift between Muslims and Christians.

IG Punjab said that apart from two Christians three other accused have been arrested. He said now such incidents will not happen again. He said the conspiracy started with the Sargodha incident and involved the accused arrested.  He claimed that the network of those who blasphemed the Quran had been destroyed.

Dr. Usman Anwar said strict action would be taken against elements who have become the tools of the enemy. He said citizens should be plaintiffs and not accused. He urged the people not to take the law into their hands.

President for measures to ensure financial inclusion of women

KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi stressed the banking institutions of the country to take measures to further increase the financial inclusion of women as well as ensure gender equality in the banking sector.

Besides the provision of easy and accessible financial services to women and differently-abled persons, he emphasized that the banking sector should also focus on providing more employment opportunities and financing facilities as well as providing on-the-job training to them.

President expressed these views while chairing a meeting with representatives of various banks held here at Sindh Governor House to review progress on initiatives aimed at financial inclusion of women and differently-abled persons as well as progress on the measures to ensure employment and financial opportunities for them. The review meeting was attended by senior officials of the State Bank of Pakistan and Chief Executive Officers of different commercial banks.

Terming meaningful participation of women in economic activities as vital for the progress and prosperity of the country, the President said that it was encouraging to see that the share of female account holders and their share in banking sector jobs has witnessed a surge in previous years.

He added that more steps were needed to be taken to promote gender equality and inclusion of women and persons with disabilities in the banking sector and other economic activities.

President said that the jobs for people with disabilities could be tailored in the banking sector and the process of opening bank accounts should be further simplified.

The President, while referring to the fast-paced growth of digital technologies across the world, said that the banking industry in Pakistan has to keep pace with the changing circumstances by using the latest IT tools.

He expressed concern over the rising incidents of banking fraud and emphasised the need to improve the safety mechanisms of banks to effectively protect the interests of banking customers.
