Shahid Khaqan
  • He said “Nawaz Sharif is my leader, not Maryam Nawaz.”
  • Ex-PM said even Benazir was not allowed by the uncles.
  • He said contact with Nawaz Sharif and party is still established.

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-N Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has refused to accept PML-N’s chief organizer and senior vice president Maryam Nawaz as a leader.

In his statement, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said “Nawaz Sharif is my leader, not Maryam Nawaz, I am Maryam’s uncle, even Benazir was not allowed by the uncles.”

He further said that Maryam Nawaz might have had a grudge and therefore resigned, but there was no distance from PML-N, contact with Nawaz Sharif, and the party is still established.

Earlier, senior leader of PML-N Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, in a special interview with Bol News, said “ he has resigned from the position of the party, but I am with the party, I am a colleague of Mian Nawaz, I have spent my whole life in the party. And I will stay at the same party.”

He said that Maryam Nawaz has come to a leadership position, she needs space, when a new generation comes, the old people have to be led in a new role.

It should be noted that Shahid Khan Abbasi had resigned as the senior vice president of the party, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had been dissatisfied with the party policies for a long time.

Later, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had a long one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Sources said that during the meeting, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi decided not to resign from the Energy Saving Committee and Reform Committees.

The military of the United States and Canada have shot down a new unidentified object

United states and Canada
  • The unexplained object has been shot down over North American airspace.
  • Both Canadian and US aircraft were dispatched to locate the item.
  • It is the third object shot down in the previous week.

Another unexplained object has been shot down over North American airspace, according to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

He said the latest object “violated Canadian airspace” and was shot down over Yukon in northwest Canada.

Both Canadian and US aircraft were dispatched to locate the item, which Mr. Trudeau claims was shot down by a US F-22 fighter plane.

It is the third object shot down in the previous week over North America.

Last weekend, the US military destroyed a Chinese balloon, and on Friday, an unnamed object the size of a small vehicle was shot down off the coast of Alaska.

Mr. Trudeau said on Saturday that he issued the order and spoke with US Vice President Joe Biden.

“Canadian forces will now recover and analyze the wreckage of the object,” he wrote on Twitter.

The latest unidentified object was intercepted at 15:41 local time on Saturday while flying over central Yukon at roughly 40,000 feet (12,000 meters).

“Canadian military will immediately recover and analyze the debris of the object,” he posted on Twitter.

The latest unidentified object was intercepted at 15:41 local time on Saturday while flying over central Yukon at roughly 40,000 feet (12,000 meters).

small and cylindrical

She described it as “small” and “cylindrical,” but recovery operations are still ongoing to learn more.

Ms. Anand said it was taken out “about 100 miles” from the US border, adding it posed a “reasonable threat to civil aviation”.

She said it “appears to be smaller than the one shot down off the coast of South Carolina” last Saturday – meaning the giant Chinese suspected spy balloon that measured 200ft (60m) tall.

Earlier on Twitter, Prime Minister Trudeau praised the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), which is responsible for air defense in the United States and Canada and led the mission.

The White House said the object had been tracked and monitored “over the last 24 hours”.

“Out of an abundance of caution and at the recommendation of their militaries, President Biden and Prime Minister Trudeau authorised it to be taken down,” it said.

“The leaders discussed the importance of recovering the object in order to determine more details on its purpose or origin.”

The US Department of Defense acknowledged that two F-22 fighter jets took off from a military base near Anchorage, Alaska and that the object was shot down using an AIM 9X missile.

Pentagon Press Secretary Brig Gen Pat Ryder added that the FBI will be “working closely” with Canadian police.

Separately, the US military scrambled fighter fighters over Montana on Saturday when some airspace was closed, but it proved to be a “radar anomaly” and nothing odd was discovered.

Chinese spy balloon

The latest device to appear above North America comes barely a week after the US destroyed a suspected Chinese spy balloon.

On Friday another unspecified object was tracked and shot down over Alaska at the orders of US President Biden.

The military stated in a brief statement that US personnel, including members of the Alaska National Guard, were still searching for the object on the sea ice on Friday.

It provided no other information on the object’s capabilities, purpose, or provenance, but acknowledged that the FBI is assisting with the recovery near the Alaskan hamlet of Deadhorse.

“Arctic weather conditions, including wind chill, snow, and limited daylight, are a factor in this operation, and personnel will adjust recovery operations to maintain safety,” it added – and that the rescue operation will continue as weather permits.

Last weekend, defense officials told US media that wreckage from the Chinese balloon landed in 47ft (14m) of water near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which was shallower than predicted.

China has denied that the balloon, which initially entered US airspace on January 28th, was used for surveillance, claiming it was a weather instrument gone awry.

The United States, on the other hand, stated that the balloon is part of a fleet of surveillance balloons that have flown across five continents.

The balloon incident has strained relations between the United States and China, prompting Secretary of State Antony Blinken to cancel a trip to Beijing.

Chinese officials on Friday accused the US of “political manipulation and hype”.

In an interview on Thursday, President Biden defended his handling of the Chinese balloon, maintaining that it was not “a major breach”.

Online registration for Hajj pilgrims from 58 countries is now available

Hajj
  • Saudi Arabia has unveiled an e-platform.
  • The e-platform will assist the entrance of Muslim pilgrims from 58 countries.
  • There will be no restrictions on the number of pilgrims.

Cairo: Saudi Arabia has unveiled an e-platform to assist the entrance of Muslim pilgrims from 58 countries for this year’s Hajj, according to local media.

As part of the kingdom’s early attempts to ease procedures for the 2017 Hajj season, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced the establishment of the hajj.nusuk.sa website for pilgrims from Europe, the Americas, and Australia.

The government announced that those pilgrims might register through the portal beginning Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the new facility allows pilgrims from these countries to apply, make bookings, and make e-payments, as well as select packages of Hajj-related services such as housing, catering, flights, guiding, and transportation.

France, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Brazil, Spain, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Australia, Bulgaria, Argentina, Greece, Georgia, Switzerland, Cyprus, Denmark, Venezuela, Ukraine, Norway, Trinidad and Tobago, Finland, Colombia, Ireland, Romania, Croatia, New Zealand, Serbia, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, Panama, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Cuba, Guatemala, Uruguay, and Nicaragua are among the countries covered by the platform.

Registration started

Saudi Arabia started registration for Muslims residing within the kingdom to enroll for this year’s Hajj ceremonies last month.

Saudi authorities have stated that there will be no restrictions on the number of pilgrims from around the world for the 2018 Hajj season, reversing previous restrictions imposed in the previous two years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saudi Arabia has reduced the number of Muslims permitted to conduct the Hajj ceremonies in the last two years in order to avoid the spread of COVID-19. In the pre-pandemic era, approximately 2.5 million Muslims would perform Hajj each year.

Muslims who are physically and financially capable of performing Hajj must do so at least once in their lifetime.

Biden, Lula pledged to defend democracy in Americas

  • The two largest countries in the Americas had successfully defended their democracies.
  • Biden and Lula met in the Oval Office and expressed camaraderie for their comparable paths.
  • Biden and Lula emphasized their shared commitment to conserving the Amazon rainforest.

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden and his Brazilian colleague Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced at the White House that the two largest countries in the Americas had successfully defended their democracies and would now collaborate to combat the climate issue.

“Both our nations’ strong democracies have been tested,” Biden told Lula, and “both in the United States and Brazil, democracy prevailed.”

Biden and Lula met in the Oval Office and expressed camaraderie for their comparable paths.

Biden defeated Donald Trump in 2020, but a mob of Trump followers invaded Congress two months later, believing his conspiracy idea that he was the true election winner.

In Brazil, Lula defeated right-winger Jair Bolsonaro and was sworn in as president in January, but a mob of Bolsonaro supporters attacked government facilities immediately afterward.

“We have some issues on which we can work together,” Lula told Biden. “First is to never again allow” the anti-democratic mob attacks.

Touting Brazil’s return to the international arena, Lula said his predecessor’s “world started and ended with fake news – in the morning, afternoon, and at night. It seemed that he despised international relations.”

“Sounds familiar,” Biden replied, referring to Trump.

Amazon financing?

Biden and Lula emphasized their shared commitment to conserving the Amazon rainforest and combating global change, measures that both Bolsonaro and Trump have ignored.

Biden said their “shared values… put us on the same page, particularly, especially, when it comes to the climate crisis.”

However, it is unclear whether the Biden administration will agree to contribute to the Amazon Fund, a global initiative to fund anti-deforestation initiatives in Brazil.

“I think they will,” Lula told reporters. “I not only think they will, but I think that it’s necessary they participate.”

However, he then said that in the talks “I didn’t specifically discuss an Amazon Fund. I discussed the responsibility of rich countries to assume responsibility to fund countries with rainforests and not only in Brazil.”

In the Oval Office, Lula informed Biden that during his previous presidency, from 2003 to 2010, he committed Brazil to drastic reductions in deforestation of the world’s largest rainforest, which is sometimes referred to as the “lungs of the earth” due to its tremendous greenhouse gas absorption.

However, “in the last few years, the rainforest in the Amazon was invaded by political irrationality, human irrationality, because we had a president who sent people to deforest, sent gold diggers into the Indigenous areas,” he said, referring to Bolsonaro.

Biden has made US leadership in combating climate change one of his top priorities, beginning with re-entry into the Paris climate agreement after Trump quit the landmark agreement aimed at slowing global warming.

Ukraine divide

One point of contention between Biden and Lula is Ukraine, which was not mentioned during their inaugural remarks before media were escorted out of the Oval Office.

Biden has led an unparalleled Western effort to rally behind Ukraine, giving money, ammunition, military training, and diplomatic backing as the country battle Russia’s war machine.

However, several major democratic countries, most notably India, South Africa, and Brazil, have mostly stood on the sidelines, refusing to provide military assistance to Ukraine and sending contradictory signals politically.

After his meeting was over, Lula told reporters that he wanted to assemble an international “group of countries that aren’t directly or indirectly involved in the war of Russia against Ukraine so that we can have a possibility to build peace.”

“That is, I’m convinced that we need to find a way out to end this war. I found Biden shared the same concern,” he said. “The first thing is to stop the war.”

As rescue efforts diminish, the death toll from the Turkey-Syria earthquake has surpassed 28,000 people

Pakistan Syria teams
  • The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has topped 28,000.
  • German rescuers and the Austrian army suspended their search activities.
  • Mr. Erdogan has admitted shortcomings in the response.

Unrest in southern Turkey has hampered rescue attempts following Monday’s fatal earthquake, according to three rescue organizations.

The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has topped 28,000, and despite some miracle rescues, hope for many more surviving is diminishing.

On Saturday, German rescuers and the Austrian army suspended their search activities, blaming conflicts between unknown factions.

One rescuer predicted that security would deteriorate when food supplies ran out.

According to local media, approximately 50 people have been arrested for looting, with numerous guns seized.

Turkey’s president has stated that he will utilize emergency powers to punish anyone who violates the law.

According to an Austrian army spokeswoman, skirmishes between unidentified parties in the Hatay province have forced hundreds of Austrian Forces Disaster Relief Unit personnel to seek refuge in a base camp with other international organizations.

The chances of saving a life are disproportionate

“In Turkey, there is increased aggression between factions,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Pierre Kugelweis in a statement. “The chances of saving a life are disproportionate to the safety risk.”

After Austria suspended its rescue efforts, the country’s defense minister announced that the Turkish army had stepped in to provide security, allowing the rescue operations to resume.

The German branch of the search and rescue organization ISAR, as well as the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (TSW) in Germany, have also ceased operations, citing security concerns.

“There are more and more reports of clashes between different factions, shots have also been fired,” said ISAR spokesperson Stefan Heine.

Isar’s operations manager, Steven Bayer, predicted that security would deteriorate as food, water, and hope became scarcer.

“We are watching the security situation very closely as it develops,” he said.

German rescue workers indicated they would continue operations as soon as Turkish authorities deemed the situation safe.

Fuat Oktay, Turkey’s Vice President, reported on Saturday that the death toll in Turkey had grown to 24,617.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

While Turkey‘s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has not commented on the reported violence in Hatay, he did emphasize on Saturday that the government would pursue those implicated in crimes in the province.

“We’ve declared a state of emergency,” Mr. Erdogan said during a visit to the disaster zone today. “It means that, from now on, the people who are involved in looting or kidnapping should know that the state’s firm hand is on their backs.”

According to sources, 48 persons were arrested for looting on Saturday, according to state media. According to Turkish state media, multiple firearms, as well as cash, jewelry, and bank cards, were seized.

“People were smashing the windows and gates of stores and automobiles,” a 26-year-old guy looking for a work colleague in a collapsed building in Antakya told sources.

Police in Turkey has also reportedly detained 12 persons in connection with fallen structures in the provinces of Gaziantep and Sanliurfa. According to the sources, they included contractors.

In Turkey, at least 6,000 buildings fell, prompting doubts about whether the large-scale catastrophe might have been averted and whether President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government should have done more to save lives.

With elections approaching, the president’s position is in jeopardy after 20 years in office and his calls for national unity going unheeded.

Mr. Erdogan has admitted shortcomings in the response, but he appeared to blame fate on a visit to one disaster zone: “Such things have always happened. It’s part of destiny’s plan.”
