Actor-director Olivia Wilde has dismissed rumours of a rift with Florence Pugh

Olivia Wilde
  • Olivia Wilde has denied rumours of a falling out with Florence Pugh.
  • The pair are co-stars in her latest film “Don’t Worry Darling”.
  • Pugh skipped the press conference ahead of the film’s global premiere in Venice. “Don’t Worry, Darling” has become one of the most talked-about films at Venice.

Actor-director Olivia Wilde has denied rumours of a falling out with Florence Pugh, the star of her latest film “Don’t Worry Darling,” which has overshadowed the build-up to its global premiere in Venice on Monday.

Pugh skipped the typical press conference ahead of the screening, and while she is set to walk the red carpet with other actors, including Harry Styles, later in the day, she has ruled out any more promotion for the psychological thriller.

She is presently filming “Dune 2” and has blamed her decision on her hectic work schedule, and Wilde attempted to put an end to widespread rumours of a behind-the-scenes rivalry.

“Florence is a force and we are so grateful that she is able to make it tonight despite being in production in Dune … I cannot say enough how honoured I am to have her as my lead,” said Wilde, who also has a meaty role in the movie.

“As for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there. The Internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute. I feel it is sufficiently well nourished.”

The news conference moderator then declined to take a question on Shia LaBeouf, who was originally cast in the picture but was replaced by Styles.

Wilde fueled rumours that she fired him by telling Vanity Fair magazine last month that she did not agree with his work ethic. LaBoeuf denied her account of events and issued a voice recording from her pleading with him to stay on board.

Given all of the off-stage commotion, it’s no surprise that “Don’t Worry, Darling” has become one of the most talked-about films at Venice, despite the fact that it’s not in competition.

Pugh and Styles play a loving couple who live in a brightly coloured 1950s town in the American desert. The perfect peace is disturbed, however, when one of the neighbourhood housewives goes missing, prompting Pugh’s character Alice to question the reality that surrounds her.

“(The film) is showing that all the pretty things that make up our world have a dark side,” said actor Chris Pine, who plays the sinister boss of the mysterious, messianic firm that dominates local life.

Styles has briefly interrupted a 15-concert run in New York to attend Monday’s premiere alongside Wilde, with whom he became romantically attached during filming.

“Don’t Worry Darling” offers him his first leading role. The British superstar acknowledged he felt more at home in the music world, but said he was loving getting into acting.

“The fun part is you never feel you know what are doing at any time. Music I have done a little bit longer, so that feeling is comfortable. What I like about acting is that I feel like I have no idea what I am doing,” he said. (Reuters)

Johnson on his way to Scotland to see the Queen

johnson
  • Boris Johnson’s journey to Scotland.
  • It is his last trip as prime minister of Great Britain.
  • Johnson will publicly resign in front of Queen Elizabeth.

The RAF Northolt facility in west London is the departure point for Boris Johnson’s journey to Scotland. It is his last trip as prime minister of Great Britain.

Johnson will publicly resign in front of Queen Elizabeth, and Liz Truss will soon follow in his footsteps to succeed him.

The establishment of a new administration requires the formal approval of the Queen. It is purely ceremonial and often only lasts a few minutes. Each minister is driven quickly from Downing Street to Buckingham Palace in a car.

However, the 96-year-old monarch chose to remain in the Scottish castle where she has spent the majority of her summer since she has mobility issues this year and has scaled back her trips as a result.

This might prolong a day of political drama by starting Johnson’s goodbye speech early, at 7:30 a.m. local time.
