Tom Hanks and Wilson the Volleyball enjoy a Cast Away reunion

Thomas Jeffrey Hanks is an American actor and filmmaker. Known for both his comedic and dramatic roles, he is one of the most popular and recognizable film stars worldwide, and is regarded as an American cultural icon

Wilson Tom Hanks weeps in despair as his cherished desert-island companion Wilson the volleyball drifts away on the waves in one of the most moving scenes in Cast Away. The actor reconnected with his iconic costar to throw out the first pitch at the Cleveland Guardians’ inaugural home game on Friday, and it proved to be a place of healing.

During the first home game, Hanks sat Wilson next to him on the field as he prepared for the toss. The volleyball, on the other hand, had other ideas, rolling away on the field and hampering Hanks’ ability to complete the move.

“There goes Wilson,” remarked an announcer before Hanks reined the ball in… only for it to roll even further out.

The hero eventually threw the first pitch to Harry Doby Jr., the son of Larry Doby, the American League’s first Black player. The ceremony was held on the 75th anniversary of Doby’s achievement, and Wilson was present to commemorate the occasion.

“I’ve had Guardians fever since 1977, when I caught my first game in Section 19 of Cleveland’s Lakefront Municipal Stadium,” Hanks said in a press release at the time. “I’m honored to return to Cleveland and Progressive Field for the first home game of the Cleveland Guardians era.”
