‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Mid-Credits Scene Explained

Black Panther
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now available to stream on Disney+.
  • Ryan Coogler’s latest is at its best when serving as a tribute to Chadwick Boseman.
  • The film grapples with his legacy in ways that can often be profound and moving.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the final movie in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is currently streaming on Disney+. Ryan Coogler’s most recent film is at its best when acting as a monument to Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020 from cancer he had been suffering while still acting and was more contemplative than any other installment in the series thus far. He left behind a legacy that the movie explores in sometimes poignant and profound ways, which aids in carrying the narrative through the credits to a sequence that hits like an emotional train.

The first thing to know is that there isn’t an end-credit sequence this time around before we get to the mid-credits scene. It didn’t seem proper to have a stinger because of the film’s subject matter, as producer Nate Moore stated in an interview with Collider. Similar to how [‘Avengers: Endgame’] felt like an emotional journey, this ended without a stinger. This made it seem as though we only wanted to deliver the story as it was originally intended, without any extras.

It would have been odd to see Ant-Man drop in for some jokes about being lost on the way to the Quantum Realm while devouring Baskin-Robbins or whatever else they had in mind after the more emotionally impactful conclusion, in fact. We can reassure anyone who would still be concerned that this is merely a deception and that Moore is actually concealing something else that there very much isn’t. However, there is a mid-credits scene that centers on Shuri (Letitia Wrightemotional )’s journey and a significant revelation regarding her brother that had been concealed from her for years.

The ‘Wakanda Forever’ Mid-Credits Scene Reveals a Brand New Addition to the Family

Shuri departs Wakanda after sparing Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejia) and delivering a shaky peace in order to spend time privately grieving on a remote beach in Haiti. She burns her white burial robe there, as instructed by her now-deceased mother Ramonda (Angela Bassett), in order to put a stop to the grieving process. Shuri then participates in a brief period of silence to think on the passing of her beloved brother. She lets the excruciating pain that has been stalking her the entire movie emerge as tears stream down her face. Then the credits start to roll as we see the fire eating through her clothing while Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” is playing in the background.

The scene is a final ode to Boseman that started at the beginning of the movie and has now gone full circle with his character’s sister prepared to start truly healing, as well as the audience as a whole. Then, Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) appears to join Shuri on the sand. But she doesn’t arrive by herself. Instead, a young boy named Toussaint who we have never seen before is brought along by her.

It’s difficult to shake the notion that the precocious child’s sharp humor and wit are familiar when Shuri starts speaking with him. There is already a natural connection between them, and we start to suspect that there may be something more substantial binding them together. Nakia confirms this and tells Shuri that T’Challa is the father of the child, stressing that T’Challa is also his real name and not Toussaint. It suddenly becomes clear why she left Wakanda so many years ago and what she has been up ever since. It makes understandable that many would be perplexed by her absence from T’Challa’s burial.when we realize that she raised their child on her own. He could perhaps become involved in things that he is not yet prepared for, thus it was necessary to keep everything in the strictest confidence and discretion.

Does T’Challa Have a Child in the Comics?

We can start to comprehend a little bit about who this youngster may be in this fresh beginning by looking to the past, particularly to that of the comics. Although there was no direct ancestor with the same name as his father, it is still worthwhile to learn more about the character of Azari. In the world of the comic books, T’Challa eventually started dating Storm’s Ororo Munroe. In the parallel reality Marvel frequently uses, they would eventually be married and have a child. After his father and mother were both killed by Ultron in that alternate reality, Azari obtained both the ability to control the weather, like his mother, and the acrobatic skills, like his father. He then took the helm of a fresh squad of heroes, all of whom resembled the dead Avengers’ children, in an effort to fight back.

Having said that, this is all very dissimilar from how the young child is introduced in Wakanda Forever. Each has lost their father and is now facing an uncertain future, therefore there is a thematic connection.Even though the universes are quite diverse from one another, the legacy issues that each face remain the same. What will it be like to take your father’s place, and will he even want to? Beyond the question of whether he will govern, each child is faced with a deeper intimate and emotional conundrum that goes beyond the era in which they are presently living. Although T’Challa will eventually have to decide what to do with his life, at least he has his mother by his side here. He currently has a far more open-ended existence, whereas the alternate version of him was forced to choose a decision.

So, Who Rules Wakanda?

Of course, there are a lot of more general inquiries about what this might imply for upcoming tales in this realm. We had a glimpse of a moment in which M’Baku (Winston Duke) claimed the throne as his own when Shuri was present by herself. That succession issue could potentially become more complicated given that T’Challa has a son. While it would be ideal if he were received upon his return with open arms, doing so might require him to shoulder a great deal of responsibility.

Beyond that, it appears as though Boseman’s character’s son might be the one to assume the mantle and carry on his father’s legacy, despite the natural reluctance to have a new Black Panther succeed him. He will need to mature considerably, in more ways than one, but it is obvious that he will need to make this decision sooner than he may think. The three characters are pleased for the time being to simply relax on the beach, apart from Wakanda and all the ongoing efforts to identify the next leader who is this child’s rightful heir. We shall have to wait for that future.
