Vijayendra Prasad responds to RRR bringing India its first Oscar ever

RRR
  • Writer-filmmaker Vijayendra Prasad, who had written the story of SS Rajamouli-directed RRR, feels a single Oscar win.
  • On Monday, Naatu Naatu from RRR became the first song from an Indian production to bag an Oscar.

One Oscar triumph shouldn’t be seen as the pinnacle, according to writer-director Vijayendra Prasad, who wrote the script for the SS Rajamouli-directed film RRR. This is because there are so many other categories for the Academy Awards. Naatu Naatu from RRR made history on Monday by becoming the first song from an Indian production to win an Oscar. Naatu Naatu was sung live at the 2023 Oscars on March 12 (March 13 in India), and the performance received a standing ovation. A cheer went up every time actor Deepika Padukone stated Naatu Naatu or RRR as she introduced the performance.

Prasad discussed his reaction to RRR giving India its first-ever Oscar in an interview with Asianet Telugu. He responded, “This is not the pinnacle,” when asked if winning the Oscar was the ultimate recognition. The Academy Awards have a huge number of categories. Take a look at the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once, which received 11 nominations. Several categories it won in. As hard as they work, so must we. Other categories should be our (Indian cinema’s) focus as well.

“We’re blessed that RRR movie is the first feature film to bring INDIA’s first ever Oscar in the Best Song Category with Naatu Naatu,” said a tweet from the official RRR Twitter account following the historic victory at the Oscars. This bizarre situation is beyond words to convey. (emoticon of hands folded) I dedicate this to all of our incredible global followers. MANY THANKS! (emoticons with red hearts) JAI HIND! Composer MM Keeravani made the following statement in his acceptance speech after receiving the Oscar for Naatu Naatu: “There was only one wish on my mind…RRR has to win…the pride of every Indian…and it must place me on top of the globe.”

Naatu Naatu rose to prominence over the past several months on a global scale. The song got the crowds dancing in the aisles and cheering at all of its most recent screenings in the US and other nations. The fictional story RRR, which was released in theaters last March, is set in the 1920s, just before independence. When they unite to take on British officials, RRR follows two characters who are loosely inspired on the real-life Telugu revolutionary figures Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR) and Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan).

SS Rajamouli says Oscar win for Naatu Naatu will boost RRR sequel writing

SS Rajamouli
  • RRR won the Oscar for Best Original Song and director SS Rajamouli admitted that the win will speed up work on the sequel.
  • Which is being written by his father Vijayendra Prasad.
  • The director attended the Vanity Fair Oscars after party with Keeravaani.

The Telugu movie RRR finally won the Oscar for Best Original Song on Monday after becoming a global phenomenon with viewers. The song Naatu Naatu, penned by Chandrabose and arranged by MM Keeravaani, which had been the front-runner during the awards season, also won the highest honor. In Los Angeles, the RRR team celebrated their victory, and the blockbuster movie’s director SS Rajamouli was questioned about the planned sequel. Rajamouli acknowledged that the Oscar victory would expedite the sequel’s writing by his father, screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad.

The director went to the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party with his cousin Keeravaani. Variety, a trade publication for Hollywood, asked him if he would start writing the script more quickly now that RRR had won the Oscar. Rajamouli chuckled and remarked: “Certainly, [the Oscar win] will cause the plot to pick up speed. Without a doubt, let’s see.” Speaking about the sequel’s development was a “tricky question,” Keeravaani, who was sitting next to the director, had injected.

The director had previously stated that he had no intention of creating a historical drama sequel. In addition, he believed there hadn’t been any worthwhile ideas to pursue. He started to change his mind, though, as the movie became a worldwide hit.

In an interview with Variety, Rajamouli stated, “After the film’s success abroad, when the subject came up again, my cousin [MM Keeravaani]—who is also a member of my core team—gave a concept that we thought was absolutely brilliant. This is the direction that needs to be taken. He commanded his father to get to work right away and develop the concept.

He had added, “Right now, he’s working on the story seriously; he’s finishing it. But, when this script is finished, when we really look into how to make it, when to make it, and how to bring it onto the screen.”

Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, two RRR actors, attended the Vanity Fair event as well. Ram and his wife Upasana Konidela attended the ceremony, while Jr. NTR walked the red carpet wearing a Gaurav Gupta ensemble. Thereafter, Rajamouli’s LA house hosted a private celebration for the RRR crew.

The film directed by Rajamouli is anticipated to begin production later this year or early in 2019.
