Punjab Govt calls for protection of migratory birds

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the significance of migratory birds as a priceless gift from nature.

In her message on World Migratory Birds Day being celebrated, she emphasized their role in enhancing environmental beauty and maintaining ecological balance.

CM Maryam Nawaz noted that these birds contribute to land fertility and stressed the need to protect their natural habitats.

The Punjab government is establishing a Wildlife Force and intensifying efforts against illegal hunting to ensure their safety, she added.

The CM also mentioned that resources are being allocated to create safe habitats for migratory birds and preserve forests and environmental-friendly measures are being implemented to address challenges faced by wildlife.

The CM urged citizens to take responsibility for the survival of migratory birds and other wildlife, asserting that birds are a beautiful part of our natural heritage, and their protection is a collective duty.

On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated a new emergency block at Indus Hospital in Jubilee Town here on Saturday.

During her visit, the CM toured various departments, including resuscitation areas, CT scan facilities, nursing stations, information desks, and family medicine centers.

Addressing a woman’s complaint about police inaction, she promptly summoned the DIG of Investigation, directing an immediate resolution. Maryam Nawaz also visited children in the emergency ward, offering prayers for their swift recovery.

The chief minister reviewed the hospital’s treatment protocols and paperless dashboard system, engaging with patients and their families to assess the quality of healthcare services.

The CM called for a collaborative plan to enhance government hospitals with support from the Indus Trust and agreed on joint efforts for pediatric heart surgeries.

Punjab Govt imposes Section 144 in Rawalpindi for 8 days

RAWALPINDI: Punjab Government has imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi for 8 days, during which political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies and other activities will be banned in the city.

The provincial government imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi for eight days, the purpose of the enforcement of the section is to secure the Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO) summit.

Political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies and other activities will be banned in Rawalpindi, while double-riding, aerial firing, pigeon flying, flying drones and use of laser lights are also banned within the city limits.

The decision to implement the section has been made at the request of the district administration and to maintain law and order and protect human lives and property, however, representatives of law enforcement agencies will be exempted from restrictions. The Section 41 has been implemented until October 17.

It should be noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit(SCO) will be held in Islamabad on October 15th and 16th.

LAHORE: The Punjab Government also called the Pakistan Army to maintain the law and order situation during Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

The Punjab Home Ministry has also issued a notification of Army Service Rules which states that the armed forces have been called up under Article 245 of the Constitution.

According to the notification, the army along with civil armed forces and police will maintain law and order at the SCO moot. The law and order will be maintained at airports, routes, venues and surrounding areas.

Punjab Govt imposes Section 144 in Lahore

LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Lahore after other cities of the province.

The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification for the implementation of Section 144 in the city, according to which Section 144 has been implemented for 6 days from October 3 to October 8.

According to the notification, there will be a ban on all kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins, meetings, demonstrations, protests and all other such activities within the limits of Lahore from October 3 to 8.

The notification further states that in view of the security threats, any public gathering can be an easy target for terrorists, so the decision to implement Section 144 has been taken on the recommendation of the district administration.

It should be noted that Section 144 has been implemented in Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Toba Tek Singh, Mianwali, Chiniot and Jhang in other districts of Punjab, while  Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has also called for a protest at Minar  e Pakistan Lahore on October 5.

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Home Department imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi Division and also summoned the Rangers.

The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification for the implementation of Section 144.  The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi Division for 2 days and banned all kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, demonstrations, protests and all such activities.

In Rawalpindi Division, possession and display of weapons will also be banned. However, representatives of law enforcement agencies will be exempted from the ban.

The ban will apply on Saturday 28 September and Sunday 29 September. Section 144 will be enforced in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal districts of Rawalpindi Division.

On the recommendation of the district administration, 6 companies of Rangers will be deployed in Rawalpindi and Attock. The district administration says that there is a fear of the arrival of armed miscreants in Rawalpindi and Section 144 was imposed to maintain law and order, protect human lives and property.

A letter was issued to the federal government for the appointment of Rangers.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has withdrawn its application for a rally in Rawalpindi.

PTI had filed a petition in the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench for permission to hold a rally in Rawalpindi, which was scheduled to be heard today.

LAHORE: The Punjab government imposed Section 144 in 7 cities of province including Lahore during Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) exams.

On the instructions of the Punjab government, the Home Department has issued a notification, according to which Section 144 will be implemented in 7 cities of Punjab on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29.

According to the notification issued, Section 144 will be enforced at the examination centers of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, while the ban around the examination centers will be enforced from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

No one except the candidates and supervisory staff will be allowed to enter the examination centres, besides the movement of non-related persons within 100 yards of the examination centers in 7 cities will also be restricted.

It should be noted that Punjab Public Service Commission has set up 25 examination centers in 7 cities for various examinations.

Punjab Govt recommends ban on social media during Muharram

LAHORE: The Punjab Government has recommended to ban social media from 6th to 11th Muharram to control spread of hate material and misinformation to avoid sectarian violence.

The Punjab Home Department has recommended banning social media in the province during Muharram, for which a letter has been sent to the Federal interior secretary.

In the letter, it has been recommended that the services of social media platforms should be suspended from 6th to 11th of Muharram in Punjab in light of the decision of the Cabinet Standing Committee on Law and Order.

It has been recommended to suspend the services of Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and TikTok.

Punjab Home Department has also informed Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority(PTA), Inspector General of Police(IGP) Punjab, Additional IGs Special Branch and CTD in this regard.

However, the final decision to ban social media will be taken by the federal government.

On the other hand, Federal government declined multiple provincial requests to restrict access to social media platforms during a few days of Muharram ul Haram.

LAHORE: A crackdown has been launched against the illegal manufacture, delivery and sale of plastic bags across Punjab.

The Punjab Environment Department said that the government is distributing eco-friendly bags to the citizens.

According to the spokesperson of the environment department, the purpose of distribution of eco-friendly bags is to discourage the use of plastic bags. The shopkeepers are also being made aware of the harmful effects of plastic bags and the law.

According to the spokesperson, fines are being imposed on those who violate the law, cloth bags are also being distributed among the carters and shopkeepers, district officers themselves are monitoring the ban on plastic bags.

LAHORE: Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi in announcing the distribution of 26,000 electric motorbikes and rickshaws to the public on interest-free basis.

He made this announcement at a special ceremony organized by the Punjab Transport Department in Lahore, where the chief minister also inaugurated the Qingqi Rickshaw Registration Program across Punjab.

The Chief Minister presented the first license for electric rickshaw manufacturing to the CEO of Sazgar Company, marking the formal commencement of the electric rickshaw industry in Punjab.

At the event, he disclosed plans to provide 10,000 electric bikes to students, facilitated by the Bank of Punjab, while another 10,000 electric rickshaws would be supported by Punjab Bank. Notably, 2,000 electric three-wheeler bikes will be granted to special individuals free of interest.

Emphasizing environmental concerns, Mohsin Naqvi declared a ban on government-level purchases of petrol-powered motorcycles across Punjab, restricting future acquisitions to electric bikes.

He also announced the initiation of the Qingqi Rickshaw Body Standers Program, highlighting the relentless efforts of the transport department in registering Qingqi rickshaws—a task previously deemed impossible.

Talking about pollution issues in Lahore, Chief Minister Punjab stressed the need for collective action. He commended Punjab Bank for its support in the Interest-Free Electric Bikes and Electric Rickshaw Programme, particularly applauding the decision to provide interest free electric bikes to students.

In a bid to encourage the shift to electric vehicles, the chief minister emphasized the high quality of electric rickshaws and their role in combating pollution. Plans include providing 10,000 electric rickshaws free of interest and allocating 2,000 three-wheeler bikes to special individuals.

Civil secretariat employees, government and private sector women, and government employees will also receive 2,000 electric bikes each, all on a free-of-interest basis.

Anticipating a positive transformation in the environment and industry, Mohsin Naqvi expressed hope for an all-electric vehicle landscape in Pakistan’s future.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the transport department, such as implementing axle load restrictions and driving license reforms.

The chief minister personally inspected the electric motorbikes, rickshaws, and vehicles, taking a ride in an electric rickshaw and commending its quality.

LAHORE:  To combat smog in Punjab, government departments have been ordered to crack down on factories and vehicles that emit smoke.

These instructions were issued in a meeting chaired by Director General Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab Zaheer Abbas Malik. All directors and district officers of the Environment Department from across the province participated in the meeting.

Zaheer Malik said that factories emitting smoke in Punjab would be sealed and vehicles emitting smoke would not be allowed to enter the cities including Lahore. He said, “Kiln operation without zigzag technology will never be allowed whereas the Chief Minister Punjab has a zero tolerance policy regarding smog and it will be implemented in every possible way.”
