Pakistan sees surge in daily Covid cases ahead of fifth wave

Pakistan has recorded 102 more COVID-19 deaths during the past 24 hours, taking the country’s overall death toll to 24,187, after recording the highest deaths in the last three months. 

The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said that the country’s number of overall confirmed cases has soared to 1,085,294 after the rise of 4,934 new infections.

Overall 975,474 have recovered from the pandemic. The disastrous disease has so far claimed 102 more lives across Pakistan in the last 24 hours, the NCOC said, adding that 4,584 people are in critical condition.

Moreover, overall 16,675,527 tests have been conducted so far to diagnose the deadly virus in Pakistan including 59,397 in the past 24 hours.

Sindh province is the most affected region of the country with 406,109 infections. Whereas, Punjab province has reported 368,195 cases.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) remains third on the list with 150,026 cases. Islamabad, 92,233, Balochistan, 31,341, AJK, 28,347 and GB have reported 9,043 new infections, so far.

On the other hand, the Sindh government has lifted the lockdown in the province on Monday and has also revised COVID-19 restrictions, which will last till August 31.

Additionally, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has expressed deep concern over the rapidly growing number of doctors infected with the coronavirus.

According to the details, the number of COVID-19 cases, which exceeded 5,000 last week, has dropped by almost 20%.

The NCOC data shows that 86 deaths and 3,884 cases were reported in a single day and the number of active cases till August 10 was 84,427 while the level of positive cases at the national level was 7.84%.

An official from the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) said on condition of anonymity that the Sindh government had played a key role in reducing the number of cases.

“Unfortunately, the cases were doubling overnight and Karachi was the most affected city. However, the implementation of lockdown by the Sindh government has stopped the increase in the number of cases and the rate of positive cases in the province,” he said.

Later, the NCOC also decided to impose sanctions, which led to a decrease in the number of cases across the country.

Pakistan has reported 40 more deaths over the last 24 hours by COVID-19 as the total number of casualties soared up to 22,321.

According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Thursday, the number of COVID-19 positive cases has climbed to 958,408 after the inclusion of 1,037 fresh infections during the said period.

46,145 tests were conducted and 1037 positive cases detected. Showing the positivity ratio of 2.2%.

At least 904,320 people have recovered so far across Pakistan, making it a significant count. According to NCOC’s figures, the total number of cases has reached 958,408.

According to a province-wise breakdown, the total cases reported in Sindh so far are 337,674, in Punjab 346,301, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 138,068, in Islamabad Capital Territory 82,706, in Balochistan 27,178, in Gilgit-Baltistan 6,138 and in Azad Jammu and Kashmir 20,343.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) have issued notices to all concerned agencies.

The notice said that “in view of the recent improvement in the situation of Code 19 in different parts of the world, there has been a review of the reduction in landing flight operations for Pakistan at the international level”.

It said direct flights from Europe, the UK, China, Malaysia and Canada to Pakistan’s airports have been increased by 20% in the 2020 approved 2021 schedule.

Also, NCOC figures show that in the last 24 hours, 23 people have died from the virus and 901 more have been infected.

It should be noted that the number of deaths has been less than 50 since June 14.

The data shows that the number of active cases is 32,241 while 2,197 patients are being treated in hospitals out of which 253 are on ventilators.

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) chief Asad Umar has on Wednesday said that the government, as well as the masses, had done a laudable job in following coronavirus SOPs, which resulted in the fall of Coronavirus cases.

While addressing a press conference today, Asad Umar announced that 1,00,00,000 people in Pakistan have been vaccinated against coronavirus so far.

“The government’s decisions to curb the virus were proving effective during the third wave of the pandemic,” he said.

“The more quickly we get ourselves vaccinated, the faster we will be able to rid ourselves of this menace,” Umar said.

The NCOC Chief further requested people to get themselves vaccinated so that business could reopen and life could return to its normal state in Pakistan.

“We have seen that when Pakistanis, as a nation, decide to do something, then they do it,” he added.

The federal minister said that while it was an impressive achievement, the government wanted to vaccinate 7,00,00,000 people against the vaccine by the end of the year.

The NCOC chief said Pakistan was vaccinating an estimated 300,000 people on a daily basis against the coronavirus, adding that more than 300,000 were registering for the vaccine on a daily basis.

Earlier, the minister had taken to Twitter to announce that Pakistan will be vaccinating over 1,00,00,000 people against the virus.

Pakistan Began Immunization Of People Aged 18 Years And Above

Pakistan had begun inocula­tion against the deadly COVID-19 of people aged 18 years and above. 

A few days earlier, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) had decided to install separate COVID vaccination centres for the teachers and educational staff.

In order to expedite the teachers with immediate vaccination facility, NCOC has decided the establishment of separate COVID vaccination centres amidst the ongoing third Coronavirus wave.

According to sources, new centres would be established countrywide at the tehsil level, while separate counters would be reserved for the teachers.

The body has directed to complete vaccination of the teachers by June 5, said sources.

Pakistan’s coronavirus positivity ratio has dropped to the lowest level in three months as the country reported a 3.58% positivity rate on Friday.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre 52,859, coronavirus tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours. While 1,893 new positive cases were reported in the past 24 hours.

 

According to the report, 3.02% last lowest COVID-19 positive rate was reported on February 28 in Pakistan.

The total number of Covid-19 active cases is 928,588 and 21,105 have died so far due to the virus.

In Pakistan, 856,005 people have recovered from the virus, according to NCOC data.

COVID-19 cases are steadily decreasing, but Sindh continues to see an increase in the positive cases.

Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho had said a day earlier that the people of Pakistan are still hesitant to get themselves vaccinated.

According to details, in a tweet message on the social networking website, Federal Minister for Planning Asad Omar apprised about the walk-in vaccination.

The Minister wrote, “in the NCOC meeting today it was decided to open up walk-in vaccination for 30 plus from tomorrow. So if you are 30 or older and registered please go to any vaccination centre and get vaccinated.”

COVID-19: Positivity Rate Drops To its lowest 3.71% With More 71 Casualties

COVID-19 Positive Cases Rate Rises to 9% in Lahore

The positivity rate of Coronavirus cases in Pakistan has dropped to its lowest 3.71% during the third wave of the deadly pandemic.

According to the daily data by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), as many as 1,771 new COVID-19 cases detected over the previous 24 hours. The overall country’s caseload reaches 922,824.

The death toll rose up to 20,850 after 71 more people lost their lives due to the disease.

A total of 47,633 samples were tested, out of which 1,771 turned out to be positive. The positivity rate of infections was recorded at 3.71%, the NCOC said.

However, during the last 24 hours, 52,223 tests for coronavirus were performed out of which 2,117 new corona cases were detected, the test positive rate was 4.05% while the total number of corona cases reported so far has reached 921,053.

According to the latest figures, the number of coronavirus cases in Sindh is 318,579, in Punjab 340,110, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 132,822, in Balochistan 25,148, in Islamabad 81,257 and in Azad Kashmir 19,250 and in Gilgit-Baltistan cases have reached 5,588.

Earlier, the government has decided to start scheduling vaccination of registered 18 plus from Thursday the 3rd of June.

In a statement released on Twitter, Asad Omar, head of the NCOC and federal minister, said that vaccinations for people over the age of 18 would begin on June 3.

“With this step, the vaccination of all eligible age groups would be carried out. Please register as soon as possible,” the minister added.
