Shafqat Mahmood wants to reopen schools as soon as possible

Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood has said that he would like to reopen all educational institutions from the coming month as he is much concerned about the loss of studies, especially at the primary level.

In a tweet on Friday night, Shafqat Mahmood said that the final decision regarding schools opening will be made on health grounds. Students well being comes first.

He, in another tweet, informed that the Inter-provincial Education Ministers conference will take place on Jan 4, 2021. Among other agenda points, the most important would be an analysis of the health situation to determine the re-opening of educational institutions.

Earlier, the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) had earlier decided to shut all schools, colleges, and universities from November 26 and announced that a review meeting will held in the first week of January.

“The IPEMC would meet on January 4 to review the pandemic situation in the country and make a decision about reopening of educational institutions,” the minister said.

Saeed Ghani had on Wednesday said that after evaluating the coronavirus situation, it did not seem possible that educational institutions would reopen in January 2021.

Ghani had reiterated his stance that unlike the last academic year, no student would be promoted to the next year without taking the examination this year.

Shafqat Mahmood to announce final decision about schools closure tomorrow

Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood has on Sunday said the provincial and federal ministers will sit together tomorrow (Monday) to take decision on the closure of educational institutions.

In the wake of second wave of Coronavirus pandemic, the minister, Shafqat said the important meeting regarding schools closure will take place on Monday.

“The meeting would be attended by all provincial education ministers,” he said, adding that he will hold a press conference tomorrow at 12:30 pm and announce the final decision.

Earlier this week, the federal government sent recommendations regarding closures of schools to the provinces. According to the recommendations, primary schools may be closed from November 24.

According to the first suggestion, all primary schools in the country should close on November 24, all middle schools should be closed on December 2 while all secondary and higher secondary educational institutions should be closed on December 15.
