Pakistan continues to record a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases as the country has reported 4,858 new infections over the last 24 hours.
The confirmed case tally in Pakistan has soared to 1,039,695, including 943,020 recoveries, whereas the positivity rate of COVID-19 infections was recorded at 8.61%, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said on Monday.
The infectious disease has claimed 40 more lives across the country in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 23,462, the NCOC said.
It further added that 3,441 people are in critical condition.
However, 56,414 tests were conducted during the said period.

Sindh province is the most affected region of the country with 385,414 infections, followed by the Punjab province which has 357,735 cases.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains third on the list with 144,848 cases.
So far, Islamabad, 88,093, Balochistan, 30,502, AJK, 24,891 and GB have reported 8,212 new infections.
On Sunday, Planning Minister Asad Umar has on Sunday urged people to strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and get vaccinated at the earliest to contain the spread of the Indian variant of COVID-19.
He said the Indian variant spreads very fast. He said the government is arranging vaccines to protect the people from the coronavirus.
Umar said the government has been strong to combat the previous waves of coronavirus and now we will be able to protect our people from the current wave and without affecting their employment.
On the other hand, Dr. Faisal Sultan said the fourth wave of the coronavirus has put pressure on the health system of Karachi, Abbottabad and Islamabad.
He said now the positivity ratio has surged to 8.8% in the country. He said the number of cases is also growing on a daily basis due to the fourth wave of coronavirus.
He urged the general public to follow the precautionary measures against the pandemic. He said vaccination is of vital importance as it reduces the risk of coronavirus.
