“We Have To Move Forward As Per NCOC Policy”: Fawad Chaudhry

Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry has on Monday said that the Sindh government was not able to implement Covid SOPs in the province and later decided to impose lockdown on its own.

In his recent statement, Fawad said that the federal government has made its position clear from the very first day regarding lockdown.

The minister further said that Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah contacted NCOC head Asad Umar and SAPM on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan in this regard.

“The chief minister conveyed that they are going to impose lockdown,” he said, adding that he was conveyed that the provinces could not decide on lockdown and are not authorized to take individual decisions.

“We have jointly fought three waves of COVID-19 successfully and why there is a need to change the policy now,” Chaudhry said.

He further added, “Thought is needed to be given regarding reasons that led to a surge in positivity ratio in Karachi to 30% and blamed the provincial authorities for not implementing COVID SOPs properly.”

He said that the government could not shut down the industries completely and snatch livelihood from daily wagers. “We have to move forward as per the NCOC policy,” he said.

The minister further warned that if the provincial authorities would not implement orders then the federal government would use its constitutional options.

Note that Pakistan continues to record a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases as the country has reported 4,858 new infections over the last 24 hours.

The confirmed case tally in Pakistan has soared to 1,039,695, including 943,020 recoveries, adding that the positivity rate of COVID-19 infections was recorded at 8.61%, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said Monday.

The infectious disease has claimed 40 more lives across the country in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 23,462, the NCOC said.

Whereas, 3,441 people are in critical condition.

However, 56,414 tests were conducted during the said period.

Pakistan continues to record a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases as the country has reported 4,858 new infections over the last 24 hours.

The confirmed case tally in Pakistan has soared to 1,039,695, including 943,020 recoveries, whereas the positivity rate of COVID-19 infections was recorded at 8.61%, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said on Monday.

The infectious disease has claimed 40 more lives across the country in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 23,462, the NCOC said.

It further added that 3,441 people are in critical condition.

However, 56,414 tests were conducted during the said period.

Sindh province is the most affected region of the country with 385,414 infections, followed by the Punjab province which has 357,735 cases.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains third on the list with 144,848 cases.

So far, Islamabad, 88,093, Balochistan, 30,502, AJK, 24,891 and GB have reported 8,212 new infections.

On Sunday, Planning Minister Asad Umar has on Sunday urged people to strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and get vaccinated at the earliest to contain the spread of the Indian variant of COVID-19.

He said the Indian variant spreads very fast. He said the government is arranging vaccines to protect the people from the coronavirus.

Umar said the government has been strong to combat the previous waves of coronavirus and now we will be able to protect our people from the current wave and without affecting their employment.

On the other hand, Dr. Faisal Sultan said the fourth wave of the coronavirus has put pressure on the health system of Karachi, Abbottabad and Islamabad.

He said now the positivity ratio has surged to 8.8% in the country. He said the number of cases is also growing on a daily basis due to the fourth wave of coronavirus.

He urged the general public to follow the precautionary measures against the pandemic. He said vaccination is of vital importance as it reduces the risk of coronavirus.

Pakistan COVID Positivity rate stands at 5.52% With 2,545 New cases

Pakistan has on Thursday recorded 2,545 new Covid-19 cases over the last 24 hours, taking the tally of confirmed infections to 981,392.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 47 more people succumbed to the deadly COVID-19 during this period in Pakistan. The death toll now hits 22,689.

On May 24 this year, Pakistan had recorded a 5.21% coronavirus positivity ratio. Currently, the infection rate stands at 5.52%.

NCOC’s data from Thursday shows that 48,910 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and 2,545 of them came back positive for coronavirus.

With 47 new fatalities from the virus, the national death tally soared to 22,689.

The country’s active number of cases crossed the 40,000 marks a day earlier and currently stand at 42,330.

According to the official portal, the number of recoveries from coronavirus in the country has reached 916,373 and the total number of confirmed cases has reached 981,392.

According to a province-wise breakdown, the total cases reported in Sindh so far are 351,006, in Punjab 349,111, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 139,960, in Islamabad Capital Territory 84,083, in Balochistan 28,588, in Gilgit-Baltistan 7,163 and in Azad Jammu and Kashmir 21,481.

Earlier, Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho had on Tuesday urged the public to strictly adhere to the coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs), with 35 cases of the highly contagious Delta variant confirmed in Karachi alone so far.

The 35 cases of the Delta variant, first detected in India, have been confirmed in Karachi since June, the Sindh health department said in a statement.

It said, “severe symptoms” of the virus had been observed in people who were confirmed to be suffering from the Delta variant.

On the other hand, the Sindh government has decided to shut primary schools, indoor dine-in, parks, and other amusement places in the wake of growing COVID-19 cases in the province.

The indoor dine-in will remain closed from tomorrow (Thursday) night besides also closing down schools until class eight from Friday.

Schools for classes till Grade VIII will be closed from Friday while classes from 9th and above will be closed except for examination.

During the meeting, the chief minister expressed concern over the worsening situation of COVID-19 in Sindh where the positivity ratio has increased distinctly during the past few days.

It was also decided to impose a ban on indoor restaurants, amusement parks, water parks, tourists spots, cinemas, gyms and indoor games from Friday, July 16.
