Naseeruddin & Ratna spent minimal money on a lavish dinner date

Naseeruddin & Ratna
  • Ratna Pathak Shah, who is the daughter of actor Dina Pathak.
  • Ratna Pathak Shah first began getting noticed as an actor with popular TV serial Idhar Udhar in the 1980s.
  • Ratna and Naseeruddin Shah dated for a few years before tying the knot on April 2, 1982.

In the 1980s, Ratna Pathak Shah, the daughter of Dina Pathak, had her acting debut in the well-known TV series Idhar Udhar. The actor has been performing for more than four decades on stage, screen, and television. He turns 66 on Saturday, March 18. They did, however, have a humorous but awkward encounter at a posh costly restaurant with little money when she was just becoming started and dating another actor, Naseeruddin Shah.

A few years into their relationship, Ratna and Naseeruddin Shah decided to get married on April 2, 1982. Imaad and Vivaan Shah, their two sons, are both actors. Heeba Shah, the actor’s daughter from his first marriage, is also an actor. Ratna described the almost uncomfortable encounter at a Mumbai eatery that left them checking their wallets for the payment. The uncertainty was further increased by the restaurant’s biased practice of maintaining separate menus for men and women.

The comedians Sumukhi Suresh and Kaneez Surka’s AlB podcast from 2017 featured Ratna’s story about how her ex-boyfriend Naseeruddin made a mistake by ordering too much food on a fancy dinner date. She remarked, “These posh restaurants used to have two menu cards back in the day. One for the women and one for the men. The one for the lady didn’t show the prices while the one for males did. This was the Taj. if I may use that phrase. We had about 400 when Naseeruddin Shah and I traveled together for the first time. We went to this meal even though we were just starting out in life and had very little money. I received the menu card and the cash in error.

In Kutch Express, Ratna recently made her feature film debut in Gujarati cinema. Earlier this year, the actor made an appearance in the Netflix web series Trial By Fire. She is now starring in the comedy series Happy Family: Conditions Apply on Prime Video as the matriarch of a close-knit Gujarati family.

Satish Kaushik’s legendary film roles range from Mr. India’s Calendar to Pappu Pager

Satish Kaushik
  • Satish Kaushik, a veteran actor and filmmaker, died in Delhi on Thursday at 67.
  • He was an alumnus of the National School of Drama and the Film and Television Institute of India.
  • He was known for his comic timing and acted in films such as Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Jamai Raja, Saajan Chal Saural and many more.

Satish Kaushik, a seasoned actor and filmmaker who portrayed endearing characters like Calendar in Mr. India and Pappu Pager in Deewana Mastana, passed away on Thursday in Delhi. He was 67. Early in the 1980s, Satish started his cinematic career. Over the years, he has won numerous honors and won over the public with his humorous timing. Satish, who was raised in Haryana, graduated from both the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and the National School of Theatre in Delhi.

Satish wore many hats – he was a director, producer, theatre actor, film actor, comedian, and screenwriter. But he carved a niche for himself as one of the best-known comic actors in Bollywood. He acted in films such as Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Jamai Raja, Saajan Chal Saural, Chal Mere Bhai, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Brick Lane, and Udta Punjab. Let’s take a look at some of his iconic characters from films.

Naseeruddin Shah and Satish Kaushik in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro.

Ashok in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)

Satish was portrayed as Ashok Namboodirippad, a subordinate of Tarneja, a crooked contractor played by Pankaj Kapur, who kills D’Mello, a municipal commissioner played by Satish Shah. While the film is entertaining, one specific telephone conversation between Satish and Vinod Mehra, played by Naseeruddin Shah, is plain funny.

Calendar in Mr India (1987)

One of the most memorable lines from the Shekhar Kapur-directed movie featuring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi was “Calendar khana do (give us food)”. One of Satish’s most well-known roles in his acting career was that of Calendar, the cook.

Satish Kaushik with Govinda in Saajan Chale Sasural.

Kashiram in Ram Lakhan (1989)

Ram Lakhan, which was directed by Subhash Ghai, featured a large ensemble cast, including Jackie Shroff, Dimple Kapadia, Madhuri Dixit, and Amrish Puri in the key parts. One of the funniest comedy duos in Indian film included Satish as Kashiram and Anupam Kher as Devdhar.

Mutthu Swamy in Saajan Chale Sasural (1996)

Shyamsunder (Govinda), who hails from a village, loves music a lot. He moves to the city and befriends south Indian tabla player Muranchand “Mutthu” Swami (Satish Kaushik). Satish plays one of his best roles in this movie, which stars Govinda and Karisma Kapoor as the main characters.

Chanda Mama in Mr and Mrs Khiladi (1997)

From Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, Chanda Mama (1997)Satish Kaushik, who played Akshay Kumar’s uncle in this movie, was funny. You’ll gasp at his dialogue delivery in this film. Juhi Chawla played the lead opposite Akshay in the film.

Pappu Pager in Deewana Mastana (1997)

Both the public and the critics praised Satish Kaushik for his portrayal of the contract killer Pappu Pager. Govinda, Anil Kapoor, and Juhi Chawla play the film’s three main characters under David Dhawan’s direction.

Naseeruddin Shah speaks about conflict between Bollywood and South cinema

Naseeruddin Shah
  • Naseeruddin Shah claims that South films are significantly superior to Bollywood.
  • He recently worked in the movie Kuttey.
  • He is currently preparing to premiere his new television series, Taj-Divided By Blood.

Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah discusses the controversy between Bollywood and South cinema, expressing some support for the latter.

Shah claims that South films are significantly superior to Bollywood. But he made no hesitation in labelling the South’s film industry insensitive.

The year 2022 was a remarkable one for South Indian cinema as RRR and KGF chapter 2 gained international acclaim. The Bollywood movies Samrat Prithviraj and Laal Singh Chaddha, on the other hand, had a dismal box office performance. Yet, it started a discussion between Bollywood and the South.

The actor expressed his views, saying: “Even the mainstream Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam films are creative. They are unique. Although they may have crude tastes, they always execute everything perfectly. This is something that I have long discovered. Even if the song picturization in Jeetendra and Sridevi’s cheesy movies was ridiculous, with hundreds of matkas (clay pots) lined up in a row, at least it was an original concept.”

Naseeruddin Shah most recently appeared in the movie Kuttey. He is currently preparing to premiere his new television series, Taj-Divided By Blood. Dharmendra, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Taha Shah are also featured in the series. The Shah-starring film is scheduled to air on Zee5 on March 3.

Naseeruddin Shah believes that while South films “may be crude in taste”

Naseeruddin Shah
  • Naseeruddin Shah believes South films are more imaginative and original than Hindi films.
  • Akshay’s latest release, Selfiee, opened to lower than expected numbers on Friday.
  • Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan have not been received well at the box office in the last year.

The films being made in the Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu film industries, according to Naseeruddin Shah, are more inventive and original than those made in the Hindi film industry. Even if South Asian films “may be coarse in their taste,” the veteran actor said, “their execution is always perfect.”
At the domestic box office, recent movies like KGF, Pushpa: The Rise, Kantara, and RRR have surpassed Hindi ones. The box office performance of numerous Hindi films starring A-list actors like Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan has been poor over the past 12 months. Selfiee, Akshay’s most recent film, had a less successful Friday opening than anticipated.

In an interview with Indian Express, the veteran actor discussed why he believed films from the South were faring better than those from the Hindi film industry and consequently had a greater appeal to viewers. He declared, “Even the mainstream Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu films are creative.

Naseeruddin continued: “It wasn’t just a single dancer in the middle and a line of girls moving erratically. I therefore firmly believe that South Indian films put in more effort, and it is obvious why their films are performing better than the majority of Hindi cinema.”

The actor’s next appearance will be in the Zee5 series Taj-Divided By Blood as Emperor Akbar. On March 3, a historical drama with a fresh take on the Mughals will be released. Aashim Gulati plays Prince Salim, Taha Shah plays Prince Murad, Shubham Kumar Mehra plays Prince Daniyal, Rahul Bose plays Mirza Hakim, and Dharmendra as Sheikh Salim Christi in the television series. Aditi Rao Hydari plays Anarkali.

In addition to Tabu, Arjun Kapoor, Radhika Madan, Konkona Sensharma, Kumud Mishra, and Shardul Bhardwaj, his final film role was in Kuttey. Aasmaan Bhardwaj’s first film to be released in a director’s chair went poorly at the box office.

Naseeruddin Shah thinks that Hindi film enjoys making fun of other people’s suffering

Naseeruddin Shah
  • Naseeruddin Shah argued that Hindi cinema has been using stereotypes to portray communities and make fun of others.
  • When it comes to laughing at ourselves, people get sensitive.
  • Twitter users agreed with his assessment.

Naseeruddin Shah expressed his thoughts on how stereotypes have been employed repeatedly in Hindi film to depict communities and mock others. The seasoned actor believed that while movies have encouraged people to mock groups like the Sikhs or the Parsis, people become sensitive when it comes to laughing at ourselves. Together with his wife, actor Ratna Pathak Shah, he participated in a panel discussion at a cultural event in New Delhi in December where he discussed the generalization of humor.

Naseeruddin elaborated on how Hindi films have been following a pattern of stereotyping since the early days of cinema in a video of the actors speaking at the panel. He perceived little to no change since then. Many Twitter users concurred with the seasoned actor’s analysis. One admirer said, “Naseer ji described it very well! It is relevant to our culture, possibly to all of us…” One person remarked, “That is accurate, Sahi Hai na. The conversation at this session, where we were present, was entirely pragmatic and inward-looking.”

In December 2022, the actor and his wife went to the Jashn-e-Rekhta celebration. Naseeruddin had said, while speaking on a panel, “No society has been left unaffected by Hindi cinema; whose community have they spared? They are experts at using stereotypes. The Muslim was always the unselfish friend, who used to lose his life sparing the hero’s life at the last end. Sikhs, Parsis, and Christians were all made fun of. Yet he did frequently pass away.”

Ratna further mentioned how humor in Hindi movies is often created by using broad physical stereotypes like a big woman, a thin man, or a drunken man. She claimed that the only alternatives for humor in movies were those two.

Naseeruddin continued, “A national tradition is to laugh at the suffering of others. We lack the humor to make fun of ourselves. We feel horrible if someone makes fun of us. While making fun of others, we don’t hesitate. This has been purposefully and repeatedly endorsed in our films. Nobody claims that we are still producing the same films from a century ago despite the fact that we have been creating movies for a century. This history of making fun of various communities and doing various things dates back 100 years.”

Ratna, who most recently appeared in the Netflix series Trial By Fire, just made her Gujarati cinema debut with Kutch Express. In the upcoming episode of the Zee5 series Taj-Divided By Blood, Naseeruddin will play Emperor Akbar. He most recently appeared with actors Tabu, Arjun Kapoor, Radhika Madan, Konkona Sensharma, Kumud Mishra, and Shardul Bhardwaj in Aasmaan Bhardwaj’s directorial debut Kuttey.

Konkona Sensharma explains how she pick a movie script

Konkona Sensharma
  • Konkona Sensharma discusses the approach she uses to choose a film script.
  • Says her gut instinct is largely what drives her decision.
  • Next up for her is upcoming film Kuttey, which also stars Arjun Kapoor.

Indian actress Konkona Sensharma discusses the approach she uses to choose a script and claims that her gut instinct is largely what drives her decision.

Konkona said: “For a film, a lot of it is just instinct because it is a bit of risk. There is no foolproof way of choosing this. A lot of time you don’t know the people, you are just reading a script. Then different people are going to come and help you realize it in the format of cinema. You never know whether a good script is going to translate into a good film or whether a bad script becomes a good film. It is hard to predict. I usually go with my gut instinct.”

She continued, “If I find the script boring, difficult to read, or too complicated, then that’s a clear indication that this is not a story that is appealing to me. And I always like to have some kind of conversation with the director because that is the person who will be taking all the important decisions. If I find that I have a good rapport or a good understanding with the director, I enjoyed the script, and they can pay me decently then usually those are the factors for taking a project.”

The actress has performed in many Hollywood motion pictures, including Wake up Sid, Aja Nachle, Luck By Chance, Omkara, and many others. She has made appearances in a number of Netflix movies, including Ramprasad ki Tehrvi and Dolly Kitty Aur Who Chamakte Sitare.

The next movie Konkona Sensharma will appear in is Kuttey, which also stars Arjun Kapoor, Tabu, Naseeruddin Shah, and others.
