Christopher Nolan is assembling an impressive cast for his next project, following the massive success of Oppenheimer, which earned him his first Academy Award.

According to a Deadline report, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Matt Damon are the latest stars to join the untitled film.

While plot details remain under wraps, sources reveal that the movie is set in a time period that is not present day, though it’s unclear whether it takes place in the past or future.

Nolan, who wrote the script and is directing, is backing the project alongside his producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas, for their production company Syncopy. Universal Pictures will distribute the film, with a release date set for July 17, 2026.

This film marks a reunion for real-life couple Tom Holland and Zendaya, who previously starred together in the Spider-Man franchise. “Tom and Zendaya aren’t the only ones reuniting,” the report notes.

Hathaway, who worked with Nolan on The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and Interstellar (2014), will return to collaborate with him again. Matt Damon, who starred in Interstellar and Oppenheimer, will also join the cast, continuing his successful partnership with Nolan.

In a recent interview, Kapadia shared a memorable interaction with Nolan, who asked her to leave her earrings behind after filming. She recalled, “Oh, they’re lovely. You can leave them behind after your shoot.”

While discussing her experience, she praised costume designer Jeffrey Kurland for his patience, saying, “He took all my nonsense and bullsh*t. He struggled with me, poor guy. But what a look he created. It was absolutely beautiful!”

Tenet is a science fiction action thriller that also stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Elizabeth Debicki. Kapadia portrays Priya Singh, an Indian arms trafficker.

Reflecting on her role in Farhan Akhtar’s Dil Chahta Hai, she revealed that her friend Akshaye Khanna encouraged her to take part in the film, saying, “Akshaye Khanna called me up. He was such a sweetheart. He said, ‘Please, please, do it for me.’ And yeah, I said, ‘Of course.’”

Universal’s latest blockbuster, “Oppenheimer,” has taken the summer box office by storm, emerging as a remarkable success. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film has notched up an impressive array of accomplishments in just over two weeks since its theatrical release. A standout achievement is that “Oppenheimer” now holds the title of the highest-grossing World War II movie ever.

Current estimates reveal that “Oppenheimer” has amassed a staggering $559 million in global box office revenue. This surpasses the previous record-holder, the 2017 film “Dunkirk,” also directed by Nolan, which recounted the story of the Dunkirk Evacuation and garnered $527 million worldwide. Remarkably, “Oppenheimer” has managed to dethrone its predecessor, though both films boast Cillian Murphy as a cast member.

The latest triumph for “Oppenheimer” pushes the iconic 1998 Steven Spielberg film “Saving Private Ryan” into third place on the World War II film list, having accumulated $482 million. However, this figure is unadjusted for inflation. If inflation were factored in, “Saving Private Ryan,” which also features “Oppenheimer” star Matt Damon, would retain the top spot.

While “Oppenheimer” may not have outpaced the phenomenon of Barbie in terms of box office figures, generating over $1 billion in the same timeframe, it has certainly secured its position in the annals of war film history. Filmed using IMAX cameras, the movie’s impressive presentation on the expansive IMAX screen has propelled it to become one of the most successful IMAX films in recent memory. Its IMAX earnings have exceeded $114 million, prompting an extended run in 70mm IMAX on the limited 30 screens worldwide that support this format.

The box office success of “Oppenheimer” is unsurprising given the anticipation surrounding it due to its star-studded ensemble and the directorial prowess of Nolan. The plot follows J. Robert Oppenheimer’s life, portrayed by Murphy, as he leads the Manhattan Project during WWII to create the first atomic bomb. Working alongside a determined team of scientists and Leslie Groves, played by Damon, Oppenheimer strives to test the bomb for use against Japan to bring an end to the war.

While many actors aspire to work in a Nolan project, some have turned down the opportunity to star in his films. Here are 7 actors, including the late Irrfan Khan, who declined the chance to collaborate with the Oscar-nominated filmmaker.

Josh Hartnett, known for his role in “Pearl Harbor,” rejected the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in “Batman Begins,” fearing typecasting as a superhero. He shared, “I didn’t want to be boxed into that superhero type.” Despite declining the role, Hartnett later got the opportunity to work in Nolan’s recent box-office hit “Oppenheimer,” portraying real-life physicist Ernest Lawrence.

Matt Damon, lead actor in “The Bourne Identity,” was considered for Harvey Dent in “The Dark Knight.” However, due to scheduling conflicts with Clint Eastwood’s film “Invictus,” he had to pass on the role, which eventually went to Aaron Eckhart. Despite missing this chance, Damon collaborated with Nolan in “Interstellar” and the upcoming film “Oppenheimer,” where he portrays real-life engineer Leslie Groves.

Anthony Hopkins, the Oscar-winning veteran actor, was offered the role of Alfred Pennyworth in the first “The Dark Knight Trilogy” film but declined the part. Michael Caine eventually took on the role in all three films.

Harrison Ford, known for his role in “Indiana Jones,” was set to play Detective Will Dormer in “Insomnia.” However, he stepped down when the original director, Jonathan Demme, left the project. Nolan cast Al Pacino in the lead, and Ford missed the opportunity to work with him.

Will Smith was approached by Nolan for the lead role of Dom Cobb in “Inception.” However, the actor, known for “Seven Pounds,” turned down the role for unknown reasons, missing the chance to collaborate with Nolan.

Brad Pitt was in talks with Nolan for the lead role in “Memento,” but he eventually decided not to take on the role. The part of Leonard Shelby was portrayed by Guy Pearce.

Irrfan Khan, the late Indian actor, was offered a role in Nolan’s box-office hit “Interstellar.” Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts with his prior commitments to “The Lunchbox” and “D-D.”

Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan recently discussed the prospect of directing a James Bond movie during a podcast interview.

In a conversation with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Nolan acknowledged the significant influence Bond movies have had on his own filmography, stating, “The influence of those movies in my filmography is embarrassingly apparent.”

Expressing his interest in helming a 007 film, the 52-year-old filmmaker remarked, “It would be an amazing privilege to do one.”

However, Nolan emphasized the importance of the right timing and creative alignment, stating, “When you take on a character like that you’re working with a particular set of constraints, it has to be the right moment in your creative life.” He further stressed the responsibility involved, drawing parallels to his experience directing the Batman trilogy for Warner Bros between 2005 and 2012.

Nolan expressed the need for full commitment to the project, saying, “You wouldn’t want to take on a film not fully committed to what you could bring to the table creatively. So, as a writer, casting, everything, that’s the full package. You’d have to be really needed; you’d have to be really wanted in terms of bringing the totality of what you bring to a character.”

Ultimately, Nolan conveyed his enthusiasm for the Bond franchise, concluding, “Otherwise, I’m very happy to be first in line to see whatever they do.”
