Ncuti Gatwa Shares His Unforgettable Experience Working With Ryan Gosling In ‘Barbie’

Ncuti Gatwa

Ncuti Gatwa had difficulty engaging with Ryan Gosling, primarily because he found Gosling’s appearance so captivating.

During an interview, the Sex Education star discussed his experience of collaborating with Gosling in the fantasy film, admitting that he was initially “very nervous” about interacting with him.

“I was so nervous I hardly spoke for the first month [on set],” Gatwa explained.

He went on to describe a moment when he was conversing with writer-director Greta Gerwig but became entranced by Ryan Gosling’s striking blue eyes when he turned around. Gatwa humorously remarked, “I just fell over. I just drowned in his eyes.”

Gatwa also praised the film’s production, calling it the “most kind, empathetic set” he has ever worked on. He shared anecdotes of the cast enjoying music from the So Solid Crew and classic garage tunes, culminating in an enthusiastic reaction to Magic Mike’s performances. Afterward, they all headed to London nightclub The Box, leading to an eventful group chat the next day.

On Gosling’s side, The Notebook actor expressed his admiration for Ncuti Gatwa, describing himself as a big fan and emphasizing his excitement over Gatwa’s role as Doctor Who, which marks a significant milestone as the show’s first Black Doctor.

Michael Cera Reflects On Securing The Role Of Allan In ‘Barbie’

Michael Cera

One of the standout performances in the Greta Gerwig-directed movie ‘Barbie’ was delivered by Michael Cera in the role of Allan. The former ‘Arrested Development’ star has opened up about the process of securing his role alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Michael Cera shared in an interview, “The casting happened quite unexpectedly.” “My manager received an inquiry about my availability for a movie. It was the Barbie film directed by Greta Gerwig, and it was set to shoot in London for about four months. He contacted me and said, ‘I heard about this Barbie movie. Greta Gerwig is directing, but it’s in London, so I assumed you wouldn’t be interested.’”

Michael Cera added, “I was taken aback, and I said, ‘Wait! What do you mean? Call them back!’ While he didn’t completely miss the opportunity, he did manage to temper their expectations about my interest. I responded, ‘How could I not be interested? I must do it!’”

Taking a proactive approach, Cera managed to get Gerwig’s email address from a mutual acquaintance. He sent her a message expressing his interest in the film and his desire to be part of it.

“She responded, ‘Let’s connect on a Zoom call immediately. Here’s the link; I’ll be available for the next hour,’” Cera recounted.

“She was just hanging out on the Zoom call, saying, ‘Click the link whenever you’re ready.’ We had a conversation, and things moved quite swiftly from there.”

As a counterpart to the Ken doll, Mattel introduced the Allan doll in 1964. He was marketed as Ken’s buddy who could wear Ken’s outfits.

In the early 1990s, Allan resurfaced with the names Alan and as the groom for Barbie’s friend Midge.

In the early 2000s, Alan featured in the Barbie Happy Family line alongside his pregnant wife Midge.

Ryan Gosling Denied Role To Mark Wahlberg Due To Overweight

Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling, known for his role as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which has been a hit since its July 21 release, has a rich acting career that includes notable projects like Crazy, Stupid, Love, Blue Valentine, The Notebook, and La La Land. Despite his successes, like any actor, Gosling has experienced roles he either turned down or lost. One such role was that of Jack Salmon in Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, a 2009 adaptation of Alice Sebold’s novel.

The film revolves around Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan), a young girl killed by a neighbour, and her journey in the afterlife. Gosling was initially set to play Susie’s father, Jack, who tirelessly searches for her. To prepare for the role, Gosling gained 60 pounds, envisioning Jack as a larger man. However, days before filming was to begin, he was removed from the project. The reason was a difference in the vision of Jack’s appearance between Gosling and Jackson. Jackson believed Jack should appear differently from what Gosling imagined.

According to Gosling, the lack of effective communication during pre-production and Jackson’s busy schedule led to misunderstandings. Gosling’s version of events indicates that his weight gain led to his removal from the role. However, Fran Walsh, Jackson’s wife and collaborator, had a different perspective. She noted that Gosling had expressed doubts about the role’s suitability for him due to age, and they had discussed ageing him up. Ultimately, they realized Gosling wasn’t the best fit for the role and decided to cast Mark Wahlberg instead.

While losing a role is a common occurrence in the industry, Gosling’s career continued to flourish after The Lovely Bones incident. Barbie’s success reaffirms his versatile talents beyond just his portrayal of Ken.

Barbie’ Sequel In Progress With Margot Robbie & Ryan Gosling?

Barbie

The Barbie film, featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has achieved immense success in its opening week, raising questions about the possibility of a sequel to the Greta Gerwig-directed movie.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the film is on the verge of reaching the remarkable milestone of $1 billion at the worldwide box office, having surpassed $900 million by August 3, 2023.

Beyond its box office triumph, the movie has become a cultural phenomenon, thanks to its clever marketing strategies.

Meanwhile, Paramount Pictures has already announced a sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem a week prior to its theatrical release.

However, the fate of a Barbie sequel hangs in the balance due to a significant reason. The writers and actors are currently on strike, leading to a halt in major production and promotion of any projects. The Barbie movie falls under Warner Bros.’ umbrella, which has also been severely impacted by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Should the opportunity for a sequel arise, THR reports that it might not see the return of Robbie, Gosling, or even the critically-acclaimed director, Greta Gerwig.

In an interview with the New York Times, Gerwig expressed uncertainty about the possibility of a second movie, stating, “At this moment, it’s all I’ve got. I feel like that at the end of every movie, like I’ll never have another idea and everything I’ve ever wanted to do, I did. I wouldn’t want to squash anybody else’s dream but for me, at this moment, I’m at totally zero.”

Furthermore, Robbie is not obligated to reprise her titular role but may return as a producer if she chooses. On the other hand, Gosling has no deal for a sequel.

“Barbie” Receives Approval For Screening In Punjab Once Again

Barbie

Following a tumultuous struggle in Punjab, authorities on Tuesday granted permission for the screening of the movie “Barbie” in the province. Punjab’s Information Minister, Aamir Mir, announced the decision, stating, “The entire film censor board of Punjab has cleared the Hollywood film Barbie for screening.”

The screening halt of the Greta Gerwig directorial was a result of “objectionable content,” prompting a full censor board meeting on Tuesday to reassess the film’s content and decide on its screening in Punjab. Mir had previously stated, “Barbie was previously banned in Punjab due to objectionable content.” The controversy surrounding the film led the Punjab government to take action and reevaluate its content. “After censoring objectionable parts of the film, the film board has now given it clearance for public screening,” said Mir.

Mir initially affirmed, “The Punjab government had decided to send the film to the censor board for reevaluation.” The reevaluation process involved all 12 members of the censor board Punjab, including Chairman Touqeer Nasir. Mir reiterated that all 12 members of the censor board Punjab, including Nasir, participated in the film’s board review.

During the reevaluation process, the Margot Robbie starrer, which pays tribute to Mattel’s iconic doll, was thoroughly examined to remove any objectionable material and ensure compliance with the censorship guidelines set by the Punjab government. Mir stated, “After removing objectionable content, Barbie can be allowed for release.”

With the green signal now given, audiences in Punjab can enjoy the global box office hit that has been earning millions. The film centres around Stereotypical Barbie, portrayed by Robbie, who grapples with concerns about her mortality. She ventures into the real world with Ken, who learns about the patriarchy and returns to the matriarchal Barbieland, influencing it with his newfound knowledge. The narrative follows multiple journeys of unlearning and valuable life lessons for all.

Margot Robbie Reflects On Her Hilarious Babysitter Prank

Margot Robbie

During the promotion of her recently released film “Barbie,” Margot Robbie shared a memorable prank she played on her babysitter that resulted in screams of terror.

As part of the Greta Gerwig film’s press tour, the Suicide Squad star recalled a time when she wanted her previous babysitter, Talia, back because she thought she was cool. However, a much older babysitter was hired instead, and Robbie was not pleased with the situation.

“I was just not happy about it,” Robbie said during her appearance on BBC Radio 2. “She told me to go have a bath, and I didn’t want to. She was very cranky, and I thought, ‘I’m going to show you.'”

With mischievous intent, Robbie got a big kitchen knife and ketchup, then staged a prank by lying naked on the tiles, covered in ketchup, and holding the knife.

After waiting for 45 minutes, the babysitter eventually discovered her on the floor, and the reaction was worth it. “Did she run screaming from the house?” host Zoe Ball asked, to which Robbie replied, “Oh yeah.”

Ryan Gosling, her co-star in the movie who plays Ken, chimed in, acknowledging that she had produced her own death. Robbie confirmed, “I did.”

Robbie also shared another playful memory from her childhood, recalling a pratfall she performed on the cinema stairs at a shopping center. The incident led to people calling for an ambulance, as she was known for being a bit of a dramatic child.

Greta Gerwig

Greta Gerwig will take on the role of both director and writer for the upcoming Narnia films, but she confessed to feeling “terrified” about the project. During an appearance on the Total Film podcast, the 39-year-old expressed her apprehension, stating, “I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it, but I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start.”

She further explained, “I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it’ll be like, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t do that one.’ No, I’m terrified of it. It’s extraordinary. And it’s exciting.”

Regarding the possibility of directing a James Bond film, Gerwig humbly responded, “Oh my God. We’re going to just stick with some lions and some dolls for the moment,” while also expressing her admiration for Bond producer Barbara Broccoli.

Netflix has secured the rights to C.S. Lewis’s beloved fantasy novels, The Chronicles of Narnia, and initially announced plans for two new movies back in 2018.
