BHC summons IG, others over dismissal of 200 policemen

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) has summon to the relevant authorities including the IG Police on a petition against the dismissal of more than 200 police personnel of the province.

Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar and Justice Shaukat Ali Rakhshani heard the petition of the dismissed police employees.

The petitioner was of the opinion that after keeping us on the job for one year, policemen were dismissed without hesitation and the employees were not given any notice to express the reasons and no opportunity to clear their positions.

On the stand of the petitioner, the court summoned the relevant authorities including IG and DIG of Police.

The court issued a notice and adjourned the hearing of the case till next week.

Earlier, Balochistan Police Department has dismissed over 200 personnel due to negligence and prolonged absence from duty.

The notification stated that the dismissed personnel include constables, head constables, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs).

The notification further elaborated that the dismissed officers belong to various regions across Balochistan, including Quetta, Loralai, Sibi, Kalat, Zhob, Naseerabad, and Makran.

BHC rejects plea seeking action against PTI founder under Article 6

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Thursday rejected the petition seeking action against Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan under Article 6.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar and Justice Shaukat Ali Rakhshani of the Balochistan High Court heard the petition filed against PTI founder Imran Khan for action under Article 6.

This petition was filed in the Balochistan High Court on behalf of lawyer Amanullah Kanrani.

The court dismissed the request for proceedings against Imran Khan under Article 6, which is dismissed for lack of jurisdiction.

Hashim Kakar takes oath as CJ Balochistan High Court

QUETTA: Justice Hashim Khan Kakar took oath as the Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court(BHC) here on Saturday.

Governor Balochistan Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar administered the oath to the chief justice in a ceremony held at Governor House.

The oath taking ceremony was attended by CM Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Judges of High Court, Provincial Ministers, Parliamentarians, Provincial Secretaries and Senior Lawyers.

President Alvi approves appointment of three judges

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi approved the appointment of a judge of Supreme Court(SC) as well as the Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court(BHC).

The president appointed Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan as Supreme Court judge who was serving as Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court.

The president approved the appointment under Article 175 A of the Constitution. The president also approved the appointment of senior most judge Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar as Caretaker Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court.

The president made this appointment of the caretaker Balochistan High Court chief justice in accordance with the Article 196 of the Constitution.

President Alvi also appointed senior most judge Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan as Chief Justice of Lahore High Court(LHC), in accordance with the Article 175 (A) of the Constitution.

JCP approves elevation of BHC Chief Justice to SC

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan(JCP) has given its nod to appoint the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, as a judge of the Supreme Court.

A meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan was held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa in which important decisions were taken regarding the appointment of judges in the Supreme Court.

In the meeting, it was decided to make Chief Justice Balochistan High Court Naeem Akhtar Afghan a judge of the Supreme Court, for which the Judicial Commission has approved the name of Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan.

Apart from this, the Judicial Commission has also decided to make Justice Shahzad Ahmed Malik the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, for which the name of Justice Shahzad has also been approved.

The Judicial Commission has approved both the names and sent the matter to the Parliamentary Committee.

BHC moved against decrease in Baluchistan’s population

QUETTA: The issue of the decrease in the population of Balochistan has been challenged in the Balochistan High Court(BHC).

The petition was heard in the division bench headed by Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan.

The petitioner said that the population of Balochistan was 21.7 million in the digital census. The Council of Common Interests(CCI) illegally reduced the population of Balochistan by 7 million. The Chief Minister should have been elected in the meeting of the Council of Common Interests(CCI).

The court asked why the Balochistan government did not challenge the decision of the Council of Common Interests.

The petitioner’s lawyer Kamran Murtaza Advocate said that the petitioner has challenged it based on being affected as a citizen.

The Balochistan High Court bench reserved its decision on the validity of the petition.
