‘Queen Elizabeth II watched The Crown on projector:’ says Matt Smith

The Crown
  • Matt Smith played Prince Philip in seasons one and two of The Crown.
  • Says he heard Queen Elizabeth II used to watch the show on a projector every Saturday night.
  • Adds that the late Duke of Edinburgh was not fond of the show, “I know that Philip definitely didn’t [watched the show].”

According to actor Matt Smith, Queen Elizabeth II enjoyed the Netflix popular drama series The Crown and used to watch it on a projector every Saturday.

The House of the Dragon actor, who portrayed young Prince Philip in seasons one and two of the popular drama series, stated in an interview that he had heard the Queen used to watch the programme.

“I heard the queen had watched it,” Smith said on the show. “And she used to watch it on a projector on a Sunday night, apparently.”

However, the late Duke of Edinburgh was not fond of the show as the actor said, “I know that Philip definitely didn’t [watched the show].”

“A friend of mine sat next to him at a dinner once, and he asked him,” Smith explained. “My friend couldn’t resist. By the end of the meal, he was like, ‘Philip, I have to ask. Have you watched The Crown?’”

“And [he] apparently turned ’round to him and went, ‘Don’t be ridiculous,'” the actor added.

Smith claims that he “became in love with Phillip” while filming the show’s first two seasons, despite the reaction.

‘He was a real modernizer and really interesting. I fell in love with Philip really to be honest,’ he said, adding that he thought Phillip and the Queen were ‘a fabulous couple.’

‘He loved her. He really made her laugh.’

Netflix’s acclaimed series, The Crown has reportedly resumed filming

Netflix’
  • The Crown is allegedly back in production for its sixth and final season.
  • Production suspended on September 8 as a ‘symbol of respect’ for Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Imelda Staunton, an actress, will replace Olivia Colman as the Queen in the upcoming motion picture.

The acclaimed Netflix series The Crown is allegedly back in production for its forthcoming sixth and final season after pausing for one day following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The production of the popular royal series was put on hold after Buckingham Palace declared Queen Elizabeth, Britain’s longest-reigning queen, had passed away on September 8.

The award-winning series’ creator, Peter Morgan, stated that the choice was made as a “symbol of respect” for Queen Elizabeth II.

On Sunday, a few male actors were observed on the set of the historical drama at The Savoy Hotel in London, and there were numerous trucks parked down the street carrying set pieces.

With several big vehicles present, the route was blocked off to the general public.

After Netflix announced plans to suspend production for a day in honour of the late king, the current decision to resume filming the sixth season was made

The streamer also confirmed that there will be a similar gesture on Monday (September 19) for her state funeral. “Filming will also be suspended on the day of Her Majesty The Queen’s funeral.”

The British monarch’s life and reign are dramatised in The Crown. Imelda Staunton, an actress, will replace Olivia Colman as the Queen in the upcoming motion picture.

In the meantime, this year’s November will see the premiere of the acclaimed series’ fifth season.

Production of “The Crown” halted amidst Queen Elizabeth II passed away

Production of "The Crown" halted
  • In honor of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 96, The Crown has paused production
  • According to reports, the Queen’s burial will take place in roughly 10 days
  • The show isn’t the only one that has temporarily ceased operations or planned to do so in respect of the late Queen’s passing

In honor of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 96, The Crown has paused production.

The Crown’s filming was halted today out of respect “a representative for Netflix stated in an email on Friday. “On the day of Her Majesty The Queen’s funeral, filming will also stop.
According to reports, the Queen’s burial will take place in roughly 10 days.

“I have nothing to contribute at this time other than quiet and respect since The Crown is a love poem to her. I anticipate that we’ll halt production as well out of respect,” said showrunner Peter Morgan to Deadline on Thursday.

The show isn’t the only one that has temporarily ceased operations or planned to do so in respect of the late Queen’s passing. On the day of the funeral, the London Stock Exchange will be closed. All Premier League soccer matches scheduled for this weekend in the United Kingdom have been canceled. In addition, Legoland Windsor closed on Friday.

When it comes to The Crown, the halt is unsurprising. One of the show’s directors, Stephen Daldry, told Deadline in 2016 that work would end when the Queen died.
“No one knows when that day may come,” he continued, “but it would be right and proper to show respect to the Queen.”

The Crown, Netflix’s drama about the British royal, is gradually catching up to the present. The fifth and final season, set in the early to mid-1990s, is now in production. Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth II, Dominic West will play Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana.

Some British reviewers have branded The Crown “false history” and “inaccurate,” and the UK government has even requested that Netflix notify viewers about the show’s bogus storytelling.
