Experts predict Meghan Markle’s “fairytale” will be a major publishing success

Meghan Markle
  • A biography by Meghan Markle would have a greater chance of becoming a bestseller.
  • Her story is a classic fairytale, and Americans are suckers for fairytales.
  • A royal specialist talked about this in an interview.

Compared to Prince Harry’s book, a biography by Meghan Markle would have a greater chance of becoming a bestseller, according to literary agent Peter Cox of Litopia.

He remarked in a statement to the UK’s Daily Express: “Not necessarily in the UK, because the public don’t like her here. But in America, it will sell like hot cakes, providing she finds a ghost writer as good as Harry’s.”

“Because her story is a classic fairytale, and Americans are suckers for fairytales,” the expert said.

He gave the following reasons as to why Meghan’s book might be a major commercial success: “From humble beginnings and a broken home, Meghan rises to find true love with – quite literally – the prince of her dreams. That is pure Disney.”

The specialist continued, “But then, she doesn’t encounter just one wicked stepmother – it’s the whole darn family who hate her! The might of the British establishment is determined to split them apart. But… true love conquers all!”

London court permits appeal over UK’s Rwanda migrant plan

appeal
  • High Court in London granted permission to a group of asylum seekers.
  • The idea will prevent people smugglers.
  • Permission was also granted to consider whether the Home Office could rely on Rwanda’s assurances.

London’s High Court on Monday granted permission to a group of asylum seekers to appeal against a ruling that Britain’s plan to send migrants to Rwanda is lawful.

The British interior ministry said it will defend its policy, which is a key component of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s plan to deal with the high number of migrants arriving in small boats.

The administration claims the idea will prevent people smugglers, but it has been condemned by human rights organizations and even King Charles since its announcement in April.

The first planned deportation flight was halted last June by a last-minute judgment by the European Court of Human Rights, which imposed an injunction barring any deportations until the conclusion of legal proceedings in the United Kingdom.

The High Court concluded last month that it was legal for Britain to establish arrangements with the Rwandan government to transport asylum seekers there, but it upheld eight individual asylum seekers’ legal challenges.

Now those asylum seekers plus one other have been granted permission to appeal on several grounds, including that the High Court was mistaken to find the Rwanda removal policy was not “systematically discriminatory”.

Permission was also granted to consider whether the Home Office could rely on Rwanda’s assurances about the conditions for asylum seekers moved to the nation.

Iran
  • Alireza Akbari held senior positions in the country’s defence establishment.

  • Iranian judiciary said that Akbari had been executed on Saturday.

Britain said on Saturday that the “barbaric” hanging in Iran of former top defense officer and dual British national Alireza Akbari, accused of espionage for UK intelligence, would not be tolerated.

“This barbaric act deserves condemnation in the strongest possible terms. This will not stand unchallenged,” Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said.

“This was a callous and cowardly act, carried out by a savage regime with no respect for the human rights of their own people,” Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated.
According to Iranian official media, Akbari, 61, held senior positions in the country’s defence establishment.
He held positions such as “deputy minister of defence for foreign relations” and “the secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council.”
The Iranian judiciary said that Akbari had been executed on Saturday.

  • several homes and businesses may experience flooding.
  • the M4 in South Wales was closed by flooding.

As a result of the UK‘s recent deluge, several homes and businesses there may experience flooding today (January 12).

A yellow weather alert for rain was issued by the Met Office for much of South West England, Wales, Herefordshire, and Shropshire until 5 o’clock.

Rainfall could also result in delays or cancellations for public transportation, dangerous driving conditions, and road closures.

The Met Office also warned that “some communities may be cut off by flooded roads”.

Also included in the Met Office’s forecast was the warning that “extremely strong west or southwest winds are expected, bringing gusts to 45 mph inland and 60 mph along certain beaches and across high ground, with the peak in the winds most probable on Wednesday night.”

As the rain swept in from the west, the M4 in South Wales was closed by flooding.

Also in South Wales, Newport City Council closed a footpath after part of it “collapsed into the River Ebbw”.

UK’s attempt to launch satellites into space is thwarted by an “anomaly”

anomaly
  • Due to an “anomaly” European satellite launches appears to fail.
  • The converted jumbo jet took off from the coastal town of Newquay.
  • More than 2,000 space fans had gathered to cheer.

The first Western European satellite launch appears to have failed due to an “anomaly” that stopped the rocket from reaching orbit.

Virgin Orbit, a consortium led by the UK Orbit Agency and British airline tycoon Richard Branson, was attempting to launch nine tiny satellites into space from a 70-foot (21-meter) rocket fitted to the wing of a modified Boeing 747.

The converted jumbo jet took off from the coastal town of Newquay in southwest England at 22:02 GMT on Monday.

After detaching from the airplane, the rocket ignited about an hour and a half later, over the Atlantic Ocean at a height of 10,670 meters (35,000 feet).

But Virgin Orbit later said there had been an “anomaly that has prevented us from reaching orbit”; it said it would provide more information when it could.

The UK space industry employs 47,000 people and ranks second only to the US in terms of satellite production.

More than 2,000 space fans had gathered to cheer when the aircraft took off from the runway in Newquay.

Following the mission, the huge jet, according to Virgin Orbit, safely landed in Newquay. The country is second only to the United States in the number of satellites it produces.

An investigation could take some time, depending on the cause and gravity of the problem. Last month, Europe’s Vega-C midsized rocket failed and is expected to be grounded for several months while an inquiry is carried out.

Canada approves $14 billion order for F-35 stealth fighter jets

Canada
  • The final of the original eight F-35 program partners will be Canada.
  • The country needs a fighter fleet to maintain control over one of the world’s greatest airspace stretches.
  • The three versions of the planes are F-35A, F-35B, and F-35C.

In a $14.2 billion contract announced by the Ottawa government on Monday, Canada will purchase 88 F-35 stealth fighter jets.

An announcement from the Canadian government stated that the first of the US-built aircraft is anticipated to join the Royal Canadian Air Force in 2026 and that the entire fleet will be operational by 2033 or 2034.

With the agreement, Canada will be the final of the original eight F-35 program partners to own one of the best fighter jets in the world.

“In today’s complex global environment, Canada requires a military that is flexible, agile, and capable of responding to a variety of unforeseen situations,” Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said in a statement.

“As the rules-based international order is challenged around the world, the F-35 will be essential for protecting Canadians, enhancing Arctic security and national sovereignty, and enabling Canada to meet its NATO, NORAD, and other obligations well into the future,” the statement state.

Air and missile defense for North America is provided by NORAD, a joint US-Canadian organization.

Over the past year, particularly after Russia invaded Ukraine, the F-35 has experienced a surge in demand, according to manufacturer Lockheed Martin.

In 2022, NATO allies Greece and the Czech Republic also announced requests to purchase the F-35 stealth fighters, along with deals for Germany, Switzerland, and Finland.

Along with the US Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps, F-35s are currently or soon will be a member of the fleets of Australia, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Japan, South Korea, Israel, Poland, Belgium, and Singapore.

The three versions of the planes are the basic F-35A, the F-35B with short takeoff and vertical landing, and the F-35C with aircraft carrier capability.

Canada will replace CF-18 aircraft

Canada will buy the F-35A version to replace its outdated CF-18 aircraft.

The country needs a fighter fleet to maintain control over one of the world’s greatest airspace stretches, the enormous Arctic.

Accordingly, the government stated that the $14.2 billion (19 billion Canadian dollars) price tag includes building work at two air bases in Alberta and Quebec, as well as related tools and services.

According to the release, the program is anticipated to create 3,300 jobs yearly over 25 years and add $425 million ($310 million) to the country’s GDP each year.

The government reported that Canada’s industry, an original participant in the F-35 program, had received contracts totaling $2.8 billion so far for the manufacture of the fighter jet.
