UNGA Session: Death echoes in every home in Gaza, says FM Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi while addressing the 67th plenary meeting of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)  in New York has highlighted Israeli atrocities against Palestinians.

FM Qureshi began his address by saying, “There are times in history when decisions of nations are remembered by posterity. This is one such moment.”

“What we do today or cannot do will be recorded in history. Driven by arrogance and emboldened by impunity, Israel has mounted a relentless onslaught on the occupied and beleaguered people of Palestine,” he said.

He said that one week of Israeli attacks have martyred more than 250 Palestinians and thousands injured, out of which one-third are women and children.

“Death echoes in every home in Gaza,” Qureshi said, To highlight the situation in Gaza. FM Qureshi recalled one such tragedy, in which all ten members of the Abu Hattab family had died in Israeli strikes.

“Hundreds of such tragedies are being enacted every hour in Gaza and other parts of the Palestinian territories. So far over 50,000 Palestinians have fled their homes in Gaza,” he said.

FM Qureshi went on to say that these people have very poor and insufficient access to water, food, hygiene and health services.

The foreign minister said hospitals and sanitation services depend on electricity but fuel for power plants “has almost run out”.

FM Qureshi said such is the reality of Palestine, where “in full view of the world Israeli airstrikes bring down entire buildings to kill and terrorize innocent Palestinians and even silence the media”.

“Gaza has plunged in darkness […] the only light is that of Israeli explosions,” FM Qureshi said.

“It is time to say enough. The voice of the Palestinian people cannot and will not be silenced,” he said.

The foreign minister said the representatives of the Islamic world are there to speak with and for Palestine.

He said it is “appalling” that the United Nations Security Council has been unable to do what it is tasked with — to maintain international peace and security.

He said that it has even failed to demand a suspension of hostilities and warned those who are obstructing it from doing so that they will suffer the consequences.

“We must not fail the Palestinian people at this critical juncture.”

If There Is Hell On Earth, It Is Lives Of Children In Gaza: UN General Secretary

Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres on Thursday said while addressing the UNGA session in New York that “If there is a hell on earth, it is the lives of children in Gaza”

Guterres said, “We must ensure the safety of the civilian population.”

There should be no attacks on airports, the civilian population, infrastructure waste, emphasized the UN Secretary-General.

Talking about the Israel-Palestine conflict, the UN General Secretary said that the conflict cannot be ignored.

“Hamas and the rest of Israel must stop firing rockets at civilians in Israel”, said UN General Secretary.

There is no justification for harming civilians and citizens must be protected and unprovoked shelling stopped.

“We must immediately call for a ceasefire”, said Antonio Guterres.

He added that the “indiscriminate firing of rockets by Hamas and other militant groups” towards population centers in Israel — which have left 12 dead, including two children — was “also unacceptable.”

“If there is a hell on earth, it is the lives of children in Gaza,” he said.

FM, Palestinian Ambassador to Pakistan discuss Israeli aggression in Gaza

Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi Monday held a meeting with the Palestinian Ambassador to Pakistan in Islamabad.

According to the details, both the dignitaries during the meeting discussed the ongoing Israeli violence in Gaza and condemned the aggression.

Speaking on the occasion, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan is in contact with Muslim countries and the international community on the Palestinian crisis.

Foreign Minister also extended condolences to the Palestinian ambassador over the martyrdom of innocent civilians in Gaza.

It is worth mentioning here that, while addressing a virtual emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) Executive Committee, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi called for implementing resolutions of the UN Security Council, UN General Assembly, and the UN Human Rights Council on the issue of Palestine.

“The international community must protect the Palestinians against the blatant and illegal use of force and flagrant violations of human rights. It should urgently intervene and take concerted actions to stop Israeli atrocities against the civilian population in Gaza, “he said, adding that the bombardment in Gaza “must be stopped immediately.”

“Attempts to create a false equivalence between Israel, the aggressor, and Palestinians, the victims, are inexcusable and as the collective voice of the Muslim Ummah the OIC should work in unity to dispel this deliberately deceptive perception,” he said, referring to propaganda dubbing the massacre of Palestinians as a conflict.

Rejecting the continuing expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied territories and expulsion of Palestinians from their properties, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the tragedy of forced evictions of Palestinians from the Shaikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem is the latest manifestation of the systematic Israeli effort to change the demographic structure; historical and legal status; and Arab-Islamic and Christian character of “Al-Quds.”

Israel should end the barbaric attacks on Palestine: OIC

OIC

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has adopted a resolution urging an immediate end to Israel’s brutal attacks on Palestinians.

On Sunday, the OIC Executive Committee of Foreign Ministers held a virtual open-ended extraordinary conference, hosted by Saudi Arabia.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi represented Pakistan in the meeting.

The resolution demanded that Israel should end the barbaric attacks on Palestine, including disrespecting the holy sites.

It condemned Israel’s continued settlements and colonization of Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, as well as the forced displacement of Palestinians from their homes.

Muslim countries called for the security of Palestinians, medical and first-aid personnel, and allowing them to perform their duties without obstruction.

The resolution emphasized the UN Security Council’s responsibility to act swiftly to end the Israeli occupation’s brutal attacks on the Palestinian people in order to maintain international peace and security.

It reiterated the OIC countries’ commitment to supporting Palestinians’ right to self-determination and a two-state solution leading to the creation of a sovereign State of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Shareef as its capital.

The resolution called for international legal proceedings to be taken by specialized international courts and various UN bodies to force Israel to pay reparations for harm done to Palestinian assets as well as public and private properties.

“We Must Not Fail Palestinian People At This Critical Juncture”: FM Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has on Sunday voiced support for the Palestinian cause amidst the ongoing Israeli atrocities and airstrikes in Gaza, which has so far killed more than 200 innocent Palestinian Muslims.

During the important Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) meeting, which took place as Al-Quds passes through one of its most difficult phases, FM Qureshi reiterated Pakistan’s full support for Palestine.

The other points raised by the Foreign Minister include:

  1. Indiscriminate use of force by Israeli forces against defenceless Palestinians defies all international law.
  2. The tragedy of forced evictions of Palestinians from Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of Al-Quds Al-Shareef is the latest manifestation of a systematic Israeli effort to change demographic structure, historical and legal status and Arab-Islamic / Christian character of Al-Quds Al-Shareef.
  3. Creating false equivalence between Israel, the aggressor and Palestinians, the victims, is inexcusable. Attempts to silence media through tyranny, unacceptable.
  4. OIC owes genesis to the Palestinian issue. Muslim Ummah must exhibit strong solidarity for the people of Palestine with action.

In another tweet, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that there comes a time in the history of nations when decisions taken are remembered by posterity and it is important to be on the right side of history.

He also urged the entire Muslim community to not fail Palestinian people at this critical juncture.

It is worth noting that Israel maintained its murderous attacks on Sunday, bringing the death toll of Palestinians in Gaza to 170, with more than 30 children and scores of other women slain in the airstrikes.

A day earlier (Saturday), eleven members of a single extended family were killed in an Israeli air attack on the western Gaza Strip, medics in the Palestinian enclave said.
