RAMALLAH, West Bank, July 26 (Reuters) – Israeli troops demolished the homes of two Palestinians accused of killing an Israeli security guard in an April attack outside the West Bank settlement of Ariel, authorities said on Tuesday.

The army said in a statement that hundreds of protesters threw rocks, burning tyres, and Molotov cocktails at the soldiers as they carried out the operation in the West Bank town of Qarawet Bani Hassan.

Ibrahim Assi, the mayor of the town, condemned the operation and expressed solidarity with the relatives of the two alleged gunmen.

“Home demolition is a collective punishment policy that violates all international law,” says the UN.

According to the army statement, the two men were responsible for the deadly April 29 attack outside Ariel, one of the largest Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

According to the report, the two Palestinians are currently detained.

According to UN data, as of July 25, Israeli authorities had demolished 420 Palestinian-owned structures in the West Bank this year, compared to 911 for the entire year of 2021. The figures include both punitive demolitions and demolitions ordered because of a lack of building permits.

Protests Held Across Britain To Voice Support For Palestine

On Saturday, thousands protested against Israeli airstrike on the Gaza strip in London and other cities of the United Kingdom.

In the march, the protesters called for sanctions on Israel. Many in the protests were draped in Palestinian flags and fired green and red smoke flares. Other carried placards with “Free Palestine”, “Stop bombing Gaza” and “Sanctions on Israel” written on them.

A ceasefire agreement has been reached between Israel and Hamas after 11 days of fighting that wreaked havoc in the Gaza Strip and disrupted life in Israel.

According to the international news agency, after the ceasefire, celebrations were heard on the streets of Gaza, with car horns being blown and a few aerial shots fired as crowds took to the streets in the occupied West Bank.

Egypt negotiated a ceasefire following international pressure to halt the bloodshed that began on May 10.

According to a report by the British news agency Reuters, due to the fighting, many Palestinians in Gaza could not celebrate Eid al-Fitr, so on Friday, postponed Eid al-Fitr meals were held in Gaza.

Half of the Israeli radio stations that were constantly broadcasting news and commentary resumed playing music and songs.

However, both sides said they were ready to respond to the other side’s ceasefire violation.

Tensions have been running high in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem since an Israeli court ordered the eviction of Palestinian families.

Israeli army and Hamas came face to face on May 10 after Israeli police stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the month of Ramadan.

The escalation resulted in airstrikes by Israel on Gaza, which has left at least 230 Palestinians, including 65 children, have been killed in Israeli bombings. Many buildings have been demolished and thousands of Palestinians have been forced to flee their homes.

The Israeli military says more than 4,000 rockets have been fired by Hamas. The rockets have killed 12 people in Israel.

Saudi King Salman speaks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman, during a telephone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s denunciation of the Israeli aggression and attacks in Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip over the past 11 days.

Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres on Thursday said while addressing the UNGA session in New York that “If there is a hell on earth, it is the lives of children in Gaza”

Guterres said, “We must ensure the safety of the civilian population.”

There should be no attacks on airports, the civilian population, infrastructure waste, emphasized the UN Secretary-General.

Talking about the Israel-Palestine conflict, the UN General Secretary said that the conflict cannot be ignored.

“Hamas and the rest of Israel must stop firing rockets at civilians in Israel”, said UN General Secretary.

There is no justification for harming civilians and citizens must be protected and unprovoked shelling stopped.

“We must immediately call for a ceasefire”, said Antonio Guterres.

UNGA Session: FM Qureshi to highlight Pakistan’s stance on Palestine issue

On Thursday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the reason for all Muslim leaders that have gathered in New York is to demand an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza so that Israeli atrocities can be stopped against Palestine.

Foreign Minister said while talking to the media that “about 95 countries and organizations will express their views for today’s meeting on Palestine”.

He revealed that it was earlier thought that today’s meeting would be for three hours but this meeting will exceed.

Shah Mahmood said that he will highlight Pakistan’s stance on the Palestine issue as the Palestinian Foreign Minister said that 125 bombs were dropped on Gaza in 25 minutes last night in Gaza.

“I will present the full view of Pakistan in the General Assembly,” Foreign Minister.

Qureshi thanked Saudi Foreign Minister for coming to support Palestine today.

Foreign Minister Qureshi also reiterated appreciation for Turkey’s principled and steadfast support on the issue of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

Underscoring Pakistan’s abiding interest in a peaceful, secure, and stable Afghanistan, Foreign Minister Qureshi illustrated Pakistan’s consistent efforts to facilitate the Afghan peace process. He expressed the hope that the Afghan parties would seize the opportunity and work out an inclusive politically negotiated settlement.
