Pakistan, UAE discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral ties

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has on Thursday held a meeting with UAE’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai.

The meeting resulted in the enhanced cooperation of Pakistan and UAE in the agriculture sector.

During the meeting, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan desires to further strengthen its relations with the UAE by enhancing bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade and economy.

He said Pakistani Pavilion in Dubai’s Exp 2020 will truly reflect the historic relations that exist between the two countries.

The Foreign Minister said millions of Pakistanis are playing their full role in the development of the UAE over the last many decades.

He also raised with the UAE’s Prime Minister the problems faced by the Pakistani community in the Emirates.

On the other hand, the Foreign Minister also held discussion with Ambassador of UAE to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim. They both discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.

In his remarks, FM Qureshi expressed the confidence that the relations between the two countries will gain further strength in future.

FM Qureshi met Niger PM Rafini; announces scholarships to Nigerien students

Qureshi meets Niger PM

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Niger Brigi Rafini in Niamey today (Saturday) and discussed bilateral relations.

FM Qureshi apprised the Niger Prime Minister about the ongoing situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan will also send rice, blankets, tents and medicines for the flood victims of Niger, the foreign minister added.

Also, taking to Twitter, Shah has expressed that it was wonderful to meet PM Rafini. He also extended thankfulness on behalf of Pakistan for principled stance on Jammu & Kashmir dispute.

He said Pakistan will extend cooperation to Niger in different sectors including agriculture, irrigation and infrastructure development. He also announced scholarships for two hundred students of Niger.

Earlier in a day, in a meeting with his UAE counterpart, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi highlighted the difficulties faced by Pakistani nationals in obtaining visas to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Qureshi and UAE Minister of State Reem Al Hashimy met and discussed the need to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

The Foreign Office confirmed last week that the UAE had stopped issuing visas to Pakistani nationals as well as other countries.

A Foreign Office spokesman said the move appeared to be aimed at an outbreak of the coronavirus, but would seek further clarification from UAE officials.

According to the statement, “During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation, the situation at Cove 19, Pakistan’s participation in the Expo and other issues of mutual interest.”

Earthquake in Turkey: FM Qureshi expresses lament over the devastation

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has expressed deep sorrow over the severe earthquake in Izmir city on Turkey’s Aegean coast.

In his tweet, the foreign minister wrote, “Prayers for our Turkish brothers and sisters affected by the terrible earthquake in #Izmir. Pakistan stands by Turkey in support and solidarity.”

He vowed that Pakistan will always stand with his brotherly country through ups and downs.

Earlier, in a statement, the Foreign Office spokesman expressed deep grieve and lament over the devastation caused by the tragic incident in Turkey.

The Foreign Office spokesman said, “Extremely anguished by news of the earthquake in Izmir, #Turkey, and people reportedly trapped in demolished buildings. Like always, people of Pakistan are in strong solidarity with their Turkish brethren. Our best wishes and prayers!.”

A strong earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale had been felt in Turkey.

The epicentre was reported below the Aegean coast in Turkey, however; no tsunami alert was issued.

According to the US Geological Survey, an earthquake measuring 17 on the Richter scale struck 17 kilometres off the coast of the western Turkish province of Izmir.

However, no casualties were reported in the latest reports from Turkey, but images from Izmir show buildings collapsing in the aftermath of the quake.

According to the US Geological Survey, the quake affected Greece and Crete.

Furthermore, frightened by the tremors, people took to the streets in a state of fear and chaos.
