Pakistan, Saudi Arabia vow to deepen economic cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in key areas including economy, agriculture, mining and information technology.

In the meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and the visiting Saudi delegation led by Saudi Minister for Investment Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, both sides underlined the need to work together to build a prosperous and peaceful future for the region as well as for the Islamic World.

Welcoming the delegation, the president emphasized the longstanding and time-tested relationship between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

He expressed Pakistan’s desire to elevate the bilateral ties into a long-term strategic and economic partnership, underscoring that such collaboration would bring the two brotherly nations further closer.

President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s deep respect for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to stand in solidarity with Saudi Arabia.

He also praised the visionary leadership of Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.

The president also highly commended the remarkable progress Saudi Arabia was making under Vision 2030 and expressed gratitude for the Kingdom’s continued support to Pakistan during challenging times. The president said that he was happy to witness the progress and prosperity of Saudi Arabia.

Engr. Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih said that Saudi Arabia recognised the strategic geographical significance of Pakistan and its potential for natural resources and renewable energy.

He informed that Saudi Arabia had planned to invest in the infrastructure and mining sectors of Pakistan and, in this regard, his delegation would sign 25 agreements in different sectors to boost economic cooperation between the two brotherly nations.

ISLAMABAD: The first case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome(MERS) Coronavirus has been reported and successfully treated in Pakistan.

A Pakistani infected with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus came from Saudi Arabia last month.

Officials said that on September 4, the victim was admitted to a private hospital in Jhelum for heart treatment. The next day, the World Health Organization (WHO)and Saudi authorities reported that the victim was suffering from the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus.

Officials further said that the victim is residing in his house in Kharian near Gujrat after recovery.

The FIA spokesman said that among the arrested suspects are Minwar Hussain and Shafia Bibi, the accused were going to Saudi Arabia with their daughter.

The spokesman said that the accused kept traveling to Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia for the purpose of begging, while the accused were also offloaded from Lahore Airport last month.

Under the new conditions issued by Saudi Arabia, Pakistani tourists can now submit a bank statement containing $750 monthly credit or equivalent amount to obtain a Saudi visit visa.

The number of Pakistanis visiting Saudi Arabia increased by 43 percent last year and 2.7 million Pakistani tourists are expected to visit Saudi Arabia in 2024.

In order to facilitate the increasing number of tourists, Tasheer offices have been established in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan, where various services are provided to those who wish to visit Saudi Arabia to obtain a visa.

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Interpol and Immigration staff arrested the alleged suspect involved in serious crimes like sabotage from Saudi Arabia.

Spokesperson of FIA said the accused Rao Habib ur Rehman is wanted by the Punjab Police. The accused was arrested from Saudi Arabia and moved to Karachi Airport.

A case was registered against the accused in the year 2014 under the anti-terrorism provisions of Fateh Shah police station Vehari. FIA NCB Interpol had issued a red notice for the arrest of the accused, the accused will be handed over to the Punjab Police.

Saudi Arabia bars visit visa holders from entering Makkah during Hajj

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Ministry of Interior has imposed restriction on entry to Makkah for all individuals holding visit visas during the forthcoming Hajj season, from May 23 to June 21, 2024.

The Saudi ministry in a statement issued on Thursday that visit visas holders do not grant permission to perform Hajj .

The ministry has advised visit visa holders without permission for Hajj to avoid travelling to Makkah during this time to avoid penalties according to Saudi regulations.

Security and organizational measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of authorized pilgrims during the Hajj rituals.
