Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on Tuesday condemned the cancellation of the license of BOL News.

According to the details, PFUJ has expressed a strong reaction against the cancellation of the license of Bol News and warned the government not to try to stifle the freedom of expression and take away the freedoms of freedom of expression given in the Constitution of Pakistan.

President of PFUJ G.M Jamali and Secretary-General Rana Azeem expressed that the government has tried such tactics to ban media outlets before, but they failed. He said that the closure of an institution means unemployment of thousands of workers and PFUJ will never let the government take such steps.

The leadership of PFUJ expressed that this issue is being raised in all international forums and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) will also be informed about the circumstances. Secretary General Rana Azim said, “If the government does not immediately restore the license of Bol News, we will approach the courts and call for nationwide protests.”

Shahzad Akbar Expresses Concern Over PEMRA’s Illegal Actions Against BOL News

Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior and Accountability Shahzad Akbar has expressed his views over the illegal actions taken by chairman PEMRA Saleem Baig while speaking to host Jameel Farooqui in BOL News’ Program ‘National Debate‘.

Shahzad Akbar said that,

“PEMRA is working under law, however, if an order is not complied with, contempt of court case is made.”

Shahzad Akbar also said that he will tell Prime Minister Imran Khan regarding the illegal actions by PEMRA for not airing BOL News in different areas of the country and placing the channel to the last number.

“I will convey the voice of BOL to the Prime Minister. The voice of BOL must have reached PM Imran Khan by now,” said Shahzad Akbar.

Moving ahead, Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior and Accountability also talked about the increasing inflation in the country and told BOL News’ National Debate’s host Jameel Farooqui that Government is taking all the possible measures to control inflation.

“Agreements with IPPs will be further improved,” said Shahzad Akbar.

Talking about Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N), Shahzad Akbar said,

“Nawaz Sharif is on the run and is helpless.”

He further told that the government can now make legal amendments in the Cabinet, however, the government still does not have majority members for constitutional amendments.

On the other hand, Shahzad Akbar said that Nawaz Sharif should be treated in Pakistan despite getting treatment abroad.

PEMRA GATE: Qamar Zaman slams Chairman PEMRA for Contempt of Court

Chairman PEMRA Saleem Baig had illegally instructed the cable operators to shut down BOL News in different cities despite the court orders given on 25th January.

According to the details, PEMRA officials have threatened the cable operators to put BOL News on the last number.

However, in this regard, Labbaik Pvt. Ltd, BOL News has submitted a complaint to register an FIR against Chairman PEMRA Saleem Baig and others to the SHO of Zaman Town.

Contempt of court petition against PEMRA Chairman Saleem Baig and others has also been filed by the news channel.

Chairman PEMRA Saleem Baig, DG Distribution, Regional Manager Akram Barkar, Inspector Lahore Mohammad Akram, Inspector PEMRA Lahore Mazhar have been made respondents in the petition.

On the other hand, speaking to BOL News’ talk show, Abb Baat Hogi, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira has strongly condemned the illegal act by PEMRA.

Kaira has also urged the government to place competent persons for the posts as Saleem Baig has. He also added that the government must ensure the media’s freedom of action and policies.

The PPP leader further slammed Chairman PEMRA for mocking the rule of law by illegally directing the cable operators to stop transmission of BOL News.

Moreover, Saleem Baig used his subordinate officers illegally against BOL News to cause irreparable loss to the channel’s broadcasts.

BOL News News submitted a petition to SHO Zaman Town to register a case against PEMRA Chairman Saleem Baig and others.
