LAHORE: An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 struck Lahore and several cities in Punjab here on Thursday.

The tremors were also felt in surrounding areas, including Jhelum, Kamalia, Gujrat, Nankana Sahib, Jalalpur Bhattian, Wazirabad, Shahkot, and Bhalwal, among others.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) confirmed that the epicenter of the earthquake was located near Kharian, with a depth of 15 kilometers.

According to the American Seismological Center, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.2 and the underground depth was 10 kilometers, while according to the Pakistani Seismological Center, the magnitude was 5.1.

In the aftermath, people gathered outside their homes, some reciting the Kalma-e-Tayyaba in fear.

However,  no casualties or significant property damage have been reported at this time.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) said the earthquake’s epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush.

Earthquake tremors were also felt in Peshawar, Abbottabad, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner, Mohmand, Shabkadar and Attock.

According to the Seismological Center, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.3 and the epicenter was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.

However, there have been no reports of loss of life or damage to property.

ISLAMABAD: Earthquake tremors were felt in various districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the federal capital Islamabad.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Kamalia, Khanewal, Bhalwal, Chiniot, Hafizabad, Toba Tek Singh, Gujarat, Sargodha and Jhang.

Similarly, earthquake tremors were also felt in Sahiwal, Chichawatani, Burewala, Phulnagar, Hujra Shah Muqeem, Shahkot, Sangla Hill, Talagang and Chakwal.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, earthquake tremors were also felt in Peshawar, North Waziristan, Dera Ismail  Khan, Lakki Marwat, Swat, Shangla, Lower Dir, Malakand, Tank and Chitral.

Due to the severity of the earthquake, people came out of their homes and offices in various cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and started reciting the Kalima e Tayyaba.

According to the Seismological Centre, the tremors of the earthquake were felt at 12:28 PM with a magnitude of 5.7 and a depth of 10 km. The epicenter was near Dera Ghazi Khan.

On the other hand, the tremors of the earthquake were felt in the Indian capital, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Indian Punjab and Occupied Kashmir.

According to Rescue 1122 Spokesman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bilal Faizi, reports of earthquake received from different parts of the province.

However, the Control Room of Rescue 1122 has not received report of any damage or loss due to the tremor, Faizi added.

ISLAMABAD: Six people died while four injured in a tragic traffic accident on Monday near the Loni Kot interchange on the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway (M-9) in District Jamshoro, Sindh.

According to rescue sources, police said that a Mazda carrying fruits collided with a trawler while heading towards Karachi. The collision resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including two brothers.

The victims were identified as 28-year-old Nanji, 30-year-old Imdad Hussain, 28-year-old Amerji, 35-year-old Ramesh, Jitan, and another Ramesh. The Mazda was traveling from Hyderabad to Karachi when the accident occurred.

Four other individuals were critically injured and have been transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kotri for medical treatment.

The police are investigating the cause of the collision, while rescue operations are ongoing.
