KU, Korean University signs MoU to initiate students exchange program

KARACHI: The University of Karachi and Kyungdong University Global of South Korea inked the memorandum of understanding on Thursday.

The purpose of the MoU is to offer student, faculty, and staff exchange programs, joint research programs, and short vocational training programs for KU students and faculty.

The KU acting Vice Chancellor Justice Retired Hasan Feroz and the President of Kyungdong University Global Prof Dr John Lee signed the MoU documents at the VC Secretariat.

A three-member delegation from Korea including the President of Kyungdong University Global Prof Dr John Lee, the associate dean of international faculty and head of artificial intelligence at Kyungdong University Global Prof Dr Nur Alam, and the Managing Director of the Korean Universities Admission Centre Julia Jung visited the University of Karachi and met the KU acting VC Justice (R) Hasan Feroz.

On this occasion, Prof Dr John Lee expressed that there is a huge scope of academic collaboration between the KU and the Kyungdong University Global.

He shared that the Korean University has initiated the Global Student Mobility Project and is a partner with many universities around the world, and currently, students from 80 different countries are enrolled in different programs at Kyungdong University Global.

According to him, the KU students after studying for one or two semesters at the University of Karachi can apply for the fully funded scholarships in the Kyungdong University Global, and on completion of the course, they would be awarded the degree of the Kyungdong University Global.

He shared the programs offered on the Kyungdong University Global campus and also offered to launch joint research projects and academic activities.

Prof Dr Lee mentioned that to promote cultural understanding and language exchange, knowledge sharing, and other types of academic integration between the two universities, they can also initiate short-term vocational programs, workshops, and seminars for students, faculty, and staff members.

The KU acting VC Justice retired Hasan Feroz expressed that this would be a wonderful opportunity for the students and others as they could learn a lot from the experience of the faculty of the South Korean University, and the development of South Korea would enhance the vision and skills of our students and faculty.

Two brothers killed, two injured in firing incident in Karachi

KARACHI: At least two real brothers were killed and two were injured in a firing incident in the Jamshed Quarter area of Karachi on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Jamshed Quarter Aleena Rajpar said the incident appears to be a case of target killing in which six suspects on three motorcycles targeted the car. She said Sajid Aurangzeb and Omair Aurangzeb were seriously injured, the injured were immediately shifted to the hospital, but both brothers could not survive.

Aleena Rajpar said that five brothers were riding in the car, out of which two brothers were seriously injured and one escaped unhurt. The incident was a result of enmity, 18 shells of 9 mm pistols were found at the scene while almost as many bullet marks were found on the car.

The police said the deceased were residents of Lasbela Chowk who were going to the city court for the hearing. The deceased had been enmity with one of the other parties since the murder.

The brother of the deceased is allegedly involved in the murder of the other party.
