ECP imposes ban on transfers posting of DCs, ADCs

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has imposed a ban on the transfer posting of Deputy Commissioners(DC) and Additional Deputy Commissioners(ADC) across the country.

The Election Commission has issued a statement in this regard, in which it has been said that the ECP has assigned the responsibilities to the DCs and ADCs in the general elections.

According to the announcement, the Election Commission has banned transfer posting due to the appointment of District Returning Officers(DROs), Returning Officers(ROs), and Assistant Returning Officers(ARO) related to the elections.

The Election Commission has issued a letter to the Secretary Establishment and the four Chief Secretaries.

It should be noted that the Election Commission has fixed the date of general elections on February 8 across the country for which the list of constituencies has also been released.

Ex-PTI chief, Qureshi indicted in Cipher case again

Rawalpindi: Former Chairman of Pakistan Tehreak e Insaf (PTI) and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi have been indicted in a cipher case again, however, both accused refuted the charges.

Special Court Judge Abdul Hasnant heard the cipher case at Adiala Jail. The indictment against the founder PTI and Shah Mehmood Qureshi was pronounced by the judge of the Special Court

Both politicians have pleaded not guilty to their involvement in the offense related to the alleged misuse of diplomatic cable for political purposes.

This was the second time that the PTI leaders were indicted

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Special Prosecutors Shah Khawar and Zulfikar Abbas Naqvi appeared in the court. Founder PTI’s lawyer Usman Gul and Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s lawyer Barrister Taimur Malik appeared in the court.

After the indictment of the accused, the regular trial of the cipher case will begin in Adiala Jail.

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Human Rights and Women Empowerment, Mushaal Hussein Mullick expressed her deep concern over the Indian Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the revocation of the special status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), stating that it is akin to death sentence for all Kashmiris.

She was addressing a seminar to commemorate International Human Rights Day organized by Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights in collaboration with International Islamic University Islamabad.

She said that the ongoing human rights violations by India underscore the shortcomings of the United Nations. She emphasized the necessity for the UN to go beyond mere resolutions and actively pursue their implementation.

She pointed out that resolutions related to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute have remained unresolved for 75 years.

She emphasized that amidst the conspicuous silence of the UN and international organizations, the alarming situations of genocide were unfolding in Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.

She urged global bodies to break their silence and take proactive measures to address the escalating humanitarian crises in those regions.

Mushaal Hussein highlighted the profound impact of human rights violations when perpetrated by states, leading to extensive mass killings and even genocide. Drawing attention to the ongoing destruction in Gaza, she pointed out the restrictive measures preventing International Aid organizations from entering Gaza, exacerbating severe shortages of essential items like medicine and food.

Moreover, Mushaal Mullick said that contrary to Indian claims, the recent decision by the Indian Supreme Court served evidence that India was not a secular country.

Mushaal Hussein highlighted that International Human Rights Day stands as a global reminder of the fundamental principles that uphold human dignity, equality, and justice.

She emphasized the importance of utilizing this day as an opportunity for individuals, communities, and nations to reflect on the strides made in safeguarding human rights and to address persisting challenges. She called for collective action to protect and promote the rights and freedoms of every individual, regardless of race, gender, religion, or nationality.

PM Kakar sees no possibility of delay in polls

SLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said the caretaker government neither had the desire nor the intention to postpone the general election as the Election Commission of Pakistan possessed the powers to consider any such requests.

The prime minister, in an interview urged against politicizing the existential threat of terrorism in some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and emphasized the need for a united approach.

He said in the given circumstances, mobilizing the people and holding election campaigns would be a challenge in such areas. He reiterated that the caretaker government was resolved to deliver the maximum humanly possible and conclude the polling day to culminate the task assigned to them.

To a question, he said all political parties including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had the right to take part in the electoral process as excluding any registered party would raise questions about the fairness of the polls besides impacting the health of the state and society.

On the concept of “minus one, in the political parties, he said it was due to the lack of institutionalization within their system and called for the need to form local leadership and evolve organically, reducing reliance on individual personalities.

To a question, Prime Minister Kakar said he had always been forthcoming and accessible which developed his relations with the media. About the Indian Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the revocation of Article 370, he said the verdict would be judged by history as freedom was not just their right but the ultimate destiny of the Kashmiri people.

He said Pakistan was committed to the Kashmir cause as the whole nation was unanimous on to support their Kashmiri brethren regardless of any political association.

The prime minister said the establishment was playing a neutral role with no hardcore or actionable evidence of them managing political parties or any other intervention in politics.

Asked to comment about the pre-poll predictions of Nawaz Sharif to be the next prime minister, he said all the political parties usually projected their candidates as the winning figures to attract voters.

Coming to the reformative measures taken by his government, the prime minister said they had recovered around Rs 60 billion under the anti-power theft drive.
