Custom foils attempt to smuggle electronic goods at Karachi airport

KARACHI: A woman’s luggage worth Rs 9.6 million has been seized at the Karachi International Airport under the Customs Act.

According to the customs officials, the customs staff at Jinnah International Airport foiled an attempt to smuggle electronic goods. The female passenger had reached Karachi from Dubai by a private airline flight.

The Customs Collectorate staff stationed at International Arrivals stopped the female passenger at the Green Channel.

In the presence of the female passenger, her luggage was searched and four valuable iPhones, two MacBook Apples, eight valuable smart watches, 25 valuable handbags, and valuable cosmetics were recovered from it.

The value of the goods is said to be Rs 9.6 million. According to the customs officials, the action is being taken against the female passenger under the Customs Act.

SIFC recommends policy measures to improve investment ecosystem

ISLAMABAD: The Executive Committee for Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) recommended certain policy measures to further improve the investment ecosystem in various key sectors of the economy.

The two-day 6th meeting of SIFC had begun on October, 23 and was chaired by Caretaker Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Muhammad Sami Saeed.

Among others, the meeting was attended by National Coordinator for SIFC, Dr Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan, SAPM (Governance Effectiveness), concerned Federal and Provincial Ministers and high-level government officials.

The relevant ministries presented progress on various aspects and made recommendations for further improving business and investment climate.

According to the statement, the Committee was convened to review the progress of various policy-level initiatives and projects in the key sectors.

The measures to catalyze new projects as well as removing hiccups in legacy projects, were also deliberated upon to gain investors’ confidence.

LAHORE: Three more women leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) have joined the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).

Former PTI MNA Andleeb Abbas, MPA Sadia Suhail, and MPA Sumaira Bukhari announced their joining of the IPP in a meeting with party Patron-in-Chief Jahangir Khan Tareen in Lahore.

On this occasion, IPP spokesperson Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that political sisters are welcome in the party.

On the other hand, Andalib Abbas said that what happened on May 9 should not have occurred. She said no individual can be bigger than a single goal.

Earlier, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) invited PTI’s former minister Ghulam Sarwar to join the party.

According to sources, Ghulam Sarwar Khan has had several meetings with IPP chief Jahangir Tareen, but Ghulam Sarwar is waiting for Chaudhry Nisar’s political decision in his constituency.

According to the sources, IPP is also in contact with a former MNA of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf from Islamabad, but the former MNA is interested in contesting the election as an independent candidate.

KARACHI: Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja chaired an important meeting to review preparation for upcoming general elections in Sindh province, Bol News reported.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has also finalized a security plan regarding the elections in Sindh. Pakistan Army, Rangers, and Police personnel are needed for provincial elections.

According to the recommendations of ECP, a total of 205,388 security personnel are needed in the province including 100,724 police personnel.

Similarly, 47,332 Rangers and 47,332 Pak Army personnel are needed for upcoming polls.

The ECP suggested to establish a total of 19,236 polling stations in the province.

More than 4,430 highly sensitive, 8,030 sensitive, and 6,077 normal polling stations will be established for the upcoming general election.

The Election Commission has recommended giving 443 laptops, 191 printers, and 573 multimedia projectors.
