South Africa crush Bangladesh to jump to second in ICC World Cup 2023 points table

South Africa thrashed Bangladesh by 149 runs in a one-sided match at the Wenkhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday to jump to second place in the ICC World Cup 2023 points table.

Quinton de Kock played a blistering knock of 174 runs to help South Africa post a mammoth total of 382-6 in their allotted 50 overs. De Kock, who is set to retire from Test and ODI cricket after the World Cup, smashed 15 fours and seven sixes in his innings.

Heinrich Klaasen also played a blinder of a knock, scoring 90 runs off just 49 balls with the help of 10 fours and eight sixes.

Bangladesh never looked in the chase, losing early wickets and eventually folding for 233 runs in 46.4 overs. Mahmudullah was the lone bright spark for Bangladesh, scoring a fighting 111 runs off 111 balls.

The win helped South Africa improve their net run rate to 2.370, which is the second-best in the tournament.
